Firstly, so I am not being a Negative Nancy, it looks like Suzuki have engineered a great parallel twin! I really do think that is objectively the best engine type for the street. However, can we all collectively agree that it's bogus for all the top manufacturers not to include electronic cruise control on all new motorcycles? Please? They're all ride-by-wire now, and it's only a bit of hardware and some lines of code in the ECU. Not all of us live where every road is like Laguna Seca. Some of us have to ride a lot of boring flat highway miles to get to the real twisties. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I wondered the same but Its on purpose so you have to buy their flagship models, Honda has acknowledged it on some interviews where they said that they want their customers to have a clear upgrade path.
This bike just SINGS! I love how torquey it is, and that blue is stunning. As a street focused rider looking to get their first middle-weight bike, but that doesn’t want a super aggressive riding position (or 120hp), the GSX-8R has jumped to the top of my list. 🤩 P.S. You were killing it out there and I felt elated just watching the ride on both the street & the track. 💜
Rode the 8S last year and thought it was fantastic. This bike will do to the industry what the SV650 did years ago. Both street riders and club racers will have a blast!
Would you say its too much for an inexperienced rider? I love the design and sitting on it felt great but it has a lot more HP than bikes ive ridden in the past.
Yes. I believe it would make a better second bike after you've gained experience on a less powerful bike that doesn't have so much torque. If you insist on buying one, there are power modes to help tone down the throttle response. By no means would I consider it a beginner bike. @@ArtisDeadx
🥺 i still say the sv650 is better then the gsx8s i fink its funny how suzuki have had to make them lighter and more power to outdo the sv . I have a gen4 sv650 and smiles for miles for me and 70mpg is what makes it .. but will admit that the gsx8r is verry nice . If only the rear light was part of the bike tho 😥

I test rode this bike just yesterday and I really liked it. I felt it handles really well, the low centre of gravity makes it super easy to throw through a corner, the brakes felt really good and the suspension was good for me. Really usable power and the bike gives it freely. I’m 6’3” and it was very comfortable. I liked the dash, good to just get all that I need at a glance
I needed that, as looking over the monitor to new snow yesterday and some more this morning. No record fall recorded thankfully. Glad you enjoyed a good day of riding. Best to ride a smaller bike fast than a fast bike slow. Just needed some more laps to grind the feelers off. Hehehehe
Great review Kate, thanks. Gee the track looked like fun! I have an 8S and love the smooth torque and early upshifts with the quicker shifter. I like the look of the 8R and prefer the format. Definitely talking to my dealer about a test ride and a trade. Also love the dash but keep mine on black all the time. Looks classy. One criticism. Suzuki could have charged a wee bit more and matched the R7 with adjustable suspension for road and track.
I've heard a lot of good things about this bike (powerful, good brakes, good suspension). And despite its a newer bike it doesn't have excessive features, is realistically priced and everything is possible from short tours to the racetrack. This video from Spain has also confirmed that it is perfect in many ways!

Great vid again Kate! Suzuki is on a good trajectory with the line up they have now. Hope to se you on the new gx as well, that look`s mint! Good to se you have fun on a track again! Keep up the great work! 👏😊😊

Well as a rider of an inline twin already this seems like a great fun track bike, but Suzuki you should know better to have higher pegs and also a real concern having moulded handle bars rather then clip ons is going to be a big “No” for a track bike as will make a minor off a major expense to fix. Fantastic review Kate really enjoyed the video and glad that you got to have some great fun in the sun 🤘🫶🏻
I had the chance to ride the 8s last year during a Suzuki demo event and it was a blast to ride. I currently ride a 2013 Ninja 650 that I purchased new but at a certain rpm the handlebar is extremely buzzy and after a long ride the seat isn't the best either. I also attended a Kawasaki event but didn't get the chance to ride the new Ninja 650 but did get to try the z650rs but it has the same old vibes that my old one has and not in a good way. With the Suzuki I really didn't get to try out the different riding modes but the quick shifter worked very well with both upshifting and downshifting. I don't know if it's the Dunlop tires with mine but it's not very flickable and seems to take a lot of effort for it to lean over, it came with Roadsmart 2 but I've replaced them with Roadsmart 4, I may end up choosing Michelin's next time.
Great review glad you enjoyed it. The bike looks nice even the lights but for me it's the rear, l know you could put a tail tidy on but on the road your back will be covered in water an muck. All makes do it but they could make a better tail unit.🏍
I wonder if this could be a replacement for my SV1000s. I love torque which the SV1000s has a lot of. IMO, V-twins and parallel twins are more fun to ride on the streets compared to inline 4s. I like the 8R more than the 8S, and I’m glad they came out with the R version. I’m going to have to test ride one soon.
My kind of bike. Comes close to the magic triple 8 formula (80 bhp, 80 Nm, 180 kg), except the 25 kg weight "bonus". Combined with your inbuilt weigth saving features the total package should however be spot on. Meeeeeeow!😄
The grunty feel is probably a function of gearing being slightly on the low side (or suited to the characteristics of the engine depending on how you view it).
Good acceleration, well done Suzuki. Only one problem, this made me want to go ut and ride, and it's below freezing point, ice and snow. Normaly i like 4 feet of snow in the winter but right now i would not mind some summer...
Enjoyed that. Excellent test runs, and your observations are spot on. Great looking machine, and it has its power in the right place for everyday use. I remember your saying you're a svelte 54 kg, so I guess a bigger rider might have worse footrest scraping problems even after bumping up the preloads front and back?

Only saw it just now but those pegs purposely have scratch-a-scratch extenders! Guess how that problem can be cured. I however suspect also setting them back a little more would indeed be the best solution.
Great video! I will say that I am over the moon about the fact that a new bike is being released in the US, not in the usual matte black-everything black, but in matte silver, a bright yellow with the lovely pale wheels, but also the blue with the pale wheels you rode here. Well done Suzuki!!
Hope you’re proud of yourself getting back in the saddle and doing all the riding you’re really uncomfortable with, ✔️ in the taking the bull by the horns column.
I agree with Kate that considering the more sport touring nature of the 8R the lower peg height makes sense for comfort and if your a track rat adjustable peg height plates are already available for not a lot of cost (TST Industries).
Nice review! Since you have ridden both the 8S and 8R now, who is the 8R for compared to the 8S? Compared to the 8S, how much more wind protection is there really?
Nice review. I like this bike a lot, although it's not a track bike in standard trim so not sure why Suzuki decided to partially launch it at one. However, I guess it shows it's got some good sporting potential. New bars, rear sets & some sticky tires & it'd be a whole different proposition. Thank you for the video, i own the 8S and i have 2 question for you please : - is there any notable diffference between the 8S and 8R ? (other than the windshield) - it look like you're wearing a back brace (kidney belt, not sure about the name). What model and do you like it ? (i have a sciatica) Thank you.
The press seems to be avoiding to share bike's rear end. Some showed a glimpse of bulbous brake light that's a bit 90's to put it lightly. Some show neat LED on very same model. Both without tail tidy. What style is Suzuki going with in the end?
Well... I saw one and it looks like a baboons backside! Turns out that's just for the North American Market. I have another video coming with frequently asked questions and the back comes up but it is what it is and I'm sure an aftermarket company will come up with a neat solution 😊
Nice one, thanks for quick reply. You're right, I couldn't put a finger on it but yeah, it does look like it! Good to know, luckily I am in Ireland so LED for me, whew. Apologies for my manners, nice video as always, sweet dialogue with just the right ammount t&c. Thanks for sharing, stay safe.

- it look like you're wearing a back brace (kidney belt, not sure about the name). What model and do you like it ? (i have a sciatica)
Thank you.
No way this only has 80 horsies (?)- i am thinking Suzuki have been a bit cheeky again! :D
Thank you!! 🙏😊
Must be a tough job to have to travel all the way to Spain in the middle of the winter to test all these tasty new bikes. But somebody has to do it! 😁
Very lucky Marc!! I never take it for granted 🙏
@@UsernameKate Really good to hear from you, Kate. Been busy, eh? Yep, it's a job to ... for but let me not jinx it by typing that fully. Here's to many years of UNK! 🥰😘

@@UsernameKate PS: My previous answer was playing it rather cool but for more then a week you had me worrying I had typed in something wrong (for instance about the greenlaning video’s). So don’t fear that I will ever take anything for granted either! Which begs the question: Don’t you ever get fed up with having / trying to match people’s expectations? I am after all only 1 of almost 80.000 subscribers. So who do I think I am ? The algorithm is going to eat us all! 🙀 😁
Silver peg scraper award 🥈...
Reminds me of a modern VFR 800.
Fantastic looking bike. I'm moving to Houston in a couple of months and will need to buy a bike for daily commuting. I have already broken my brain choosing between VSTROM 800re and GSX-8R. On VSTROM's side is practicality. But 8R is so sexy. I am 6 feet tall. Can't decide. )
I have a feeling the new Daytona is going to be better at a similar price point. We'll know more when reviewers can actually ride it though.
Mmmm when you girls were on track, while holding my phone, I suddenly noticed I was shifting and breaking myself😂
It was that exciting 😊
Thx for the shot of adrenaline
Haha that's ace 🤣 you're welcome!
Great test. I have heard several reviewers state the handlebars are clip on style? Those aren't clip on style bars.
Clip on style, like faux clip ons. Not actual, true clip ons, but also not a flat bar.
They look like bolt ons.
That's a more accurate description of their true nature!
I Love the TORK 😂
TORKY BOI
My son's Ninja is like that with the Mirrors being a mile away.
It's 2am where I am .... can't sleep bcuz I'm getting mines this morning soon as the dealership opens
In your opinion, how this bike would be for a short trips with some luggage?
Why don't we get the yellow one in the UK?! I'd buy one tomorrow if we did!
Ok 👏🎉👍 Kate 😊
It's a SHOWA not a GROWER! LOL 😂😂 I have to say that the Metallic Matt Sword Silver looks really really nice with the red metallic rims too.
😂😂 "This road surface is actually gash". Made me chuckle that.
The gashiest 🤣
