    Hi Tim
The first cut on the oak was a very large wound that will introduce decay due to the removal of the branch collar. The wound sealer is not recommended but if a wound dressing is needed try lac balsam. Proper pruning will reduce the amount of decay. I am a professional arborist.

I wanted to comment on the tree cut for the first limb. But I see others have beat me to it. I'm glad to see you did the 3 cut method 👍

When I was younger and worked at the local hardware store ( before the big box stores) we sold a lot of pruning sprays and swabs. It would seal up the cut to help keep the bugs and other parasites from killing the trees, again another good video....

Tree sealers are actually bad. They stop the healing or slow it down alot. Arborist don't use them. Cut like you did a little farther away from the trunk. Then make a straight cut close to the collar (bark ridge) to get rid of the stub. It is prettier and easier on the tree. The rule of thumb is not to remove more than 20 percent of the leaves. You are okay for this tree. Good job. Spray the cut on the fence post with the wound sealant.

I really enjoy seeing Johnny X being used with the Turbo and higher flow pump. Once my warranty runs out I would want to do the same, if possible. I know this is a different subject but in the past you have done videos on the lift capacity of some tractors and I believe you have also done pulling force. I would love to see something like that with the ventrac, we always hear it's a real tractor, I know it would be a little different with the power bucket, the way it lifts but it would be interesting to see how it stacks up to your John Deere 1025r. Lifting and especially the pulling force. I really like the ventrac and I'm considering buying one but I never see any real comparison to convenient tractors in these manners. Thank you for your great videos and really good information.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don’t think it would compare very well in those tests. However, those tests are not relevant for the Ventrac. It operates differently. Usually, the magic is in the attachment, like the power rake or tough cut mower. Truly amazing machine, but not a straight up competitor to a compact tractor. Different markets.

    • @kdegraa

That’s pretty well true. High winds can knock branches off trees leaving torn material. The key to successful pruning is demonstrated by Tim, cut the branch close to the trunk at the base of the limb but not into trunk. Don’t worry about sealant. Trees don’t like being painted with paint.

Which 3rd function do you have on Johnny X ?
After adding the hydros plus 9gpm pump to mine and dialed up my pressure to 2800, I do now have enough flow to get multiple functions at once, including my Deere 3rd function kit.
I use to really swear a lot at my little Johnny 2025R when running my AP20F Deere grapple, and not being able to get more then one function at once.
Constantly dropping stuff with thumb on the close button. Now it is so much better, with the hydros plus kit.

I'm really surprised that you would use a third-function system on the front end that employs an either/or diverter valve. This video shows very clearly that it is a hindrance to smooth function by not allowing the use of all three functions at once. Johnny X deserves the very BEST hydraulics!
You have the rear hydraulics available, but just sitting there unused! By running your third function hoses to the rear system and paralleling those buttons on your joystick to the first spool on the rear hydraulics, you never need to pick either the third function or the second function. Both would be available all the time and at the same time.
I sure wish I was there to set that up for you! I KNOW you would like it much better. Same thing for the thumb control on the BH. By adding buttons to your BH joysticks and paralleling the switches on the Summit control panel, you can have constant control of the thumb rather than having to keep retracting the boom and punching/pulling that diverter valve button.

The idea of a production turbo kit for 25 HP subcompact and compact tractors is very intriguing. It would solve a "problem" that tons of buyers deal with: how to get usable power AND no emissions equipment in a new machine. Boy that would be nice. What model is the Stihl electric chainsaw?

  • @kevinbaker6168

My view is trim off limbs that are as low as I am tall, which is 6' 4". Otherwise at least high enough I can clear my equipment underneath it.
Have a decal made that reads "Super Turbo" that you can put on the hood under the model decal, or up at the front of the hood.

But you cut the branches the wrong way. Way to much surface is oben now. I dondt know how its called in english, but you have ro cut it not so close to the base so that the surface is smaller without leaving a stump. Thats the best way and the fastest healing

The way you cut those limbs looked very unsafe you should hide in a cage or something, also a full leather suit would help avoid scratches. And always wear bright colors so Christy doesn't run you over.

You have obviously not used one of these Stihl battery saws recently! Long battery life, and quite lightweight.
