The the river to sea has a soft back and you can bend it so it makes a different sound. I find that helps too.and working it like a poper too

Ploppers are my go to for Summer and fall Smallmouth and Largemouth. I use 90 mostly and occasionally 110. I use a St. Croix Legend Glass medium power now and have used A Mojo Glass bass in the past, (Parabolic bend), Great rods for ploppers. They only mods to the lures are adding a small barrel/rolling swivel and a split ring.

I just use straight 17 lb mono on a medium heavy fast action almost never loose any on the whopper ploppers with this setup braid seems a little excessive for something with treble hooks but I guess everyone just has to fish braid and flouro nowadays I only use braid on my frog rod honestly

I will try that, I keep losing them with braid, but I also think its the giant thick hooks that come in them. Changing over to g finesse

10-4 on mono, I’ve caught fish between 5 and 12 pounds in Florida in the 80’s. Orange & Lochloosa lakes. It works just fine..

Love this lure, its what got me into top water and its still pretty much the only one that has seriously produced for me

Couldn’t agree more. The 90 is definitely a different sound from the other sizes and it is the right vibe to sound like baitfish.

i have a question. how do you determine whether they want a steady retrieve or varied retrieves? i know you mentioned altering them and their sizes to see what they’re biting that day, but how do you go about it? do you alternate every couple casts or fish one way for a half hour and if nothing bites that retrieval then move on to the next method? it seems hard to really determine if you happen to retrieve it one particular way in front of no bass (leading you to swap over to a different one) and end up catching fish when you happen to cast near bass with the next retrieve and catch a fish that may have also hit the previous retrieve. i personally alter my retrieves quite often but looking for any other opinions or methods !

Another Plopper tip is to use s swivel in your line. The prop can catch some weeds and stop turning and then give line twist. A swivel will prevent that. Good video Tyler, thank you.

I've bought both the Whopper Plopper and the Berkley version and have yet to get my first bite but can't even begin to come up with the number of bass that I've caught on a buzz bait. Can't figure it out but I'm not giving up on it quite yet but have much more confidence with the buzz bait and they're much less expensive. But this was a good and informative video as always. Take care bud

Ive had bites on a plopper but what ur saying is so true...bass just seen to hit the buzzbaits better or alot more often

That bait is a future design of the whopper stopper wooden topwater lure. It was best at a rip stop style retrieve but worked on a straight retrieve. I'd say the whopper plopper is straight retrieve best but rip stop is also great and best when fish are missing it.

I'm just looking to get anything on a plopper, for me every blow up on a plopper they just slap at it and never get the bait like they'll get a spook style bait. I've only throw the 90 size choppo, one thing I do notice with my choppos is that they don't run true, most of the time the front body of the bait runs at a slight angle. I guess it could put the hook at a weird angle and effect the hookup ratio.

Not sure if it helps really, but i think feathered trebles are sooo pretty lol, so i hook all my choppos up fusion 19 dressed trebles. Also, while the og plopper is great, ive found that the choppo is slightly more durable (the prop) and i like the color schemes offered by the Berkeley choppo.

Berkeley choppo is a far superior piece of equipment. And it comes with Berkeley fusion treble hooks. Berkeley chapel HD series has the best paint schemes too.

The 90mm plopper is the middle size lol. They make 2 or 3 smaller sizes and two larger sizes. 60, 75, 90, 110, 130 are the ones I can remember off the top pf my head. I think they have a 50 size now too or are releasing one soon.

I’ve had some luck slowing it waaaay down and using it like a popper. Couple short 3-6 inch quick pulls and then let it sit longer than you think you should before you pop it again.

Gamakatsu round-bend trebles, maybe one size up from the ones on it. Sometimes it seems to help to put a red treble hook on the front. He may have a different answer but that has worked for me.

90 size with a real erratic stop and go twitchy retrieve wad the ticket on my last outing. Had one fish come off a bladed jig, rest off the choppo

  • @goofyoutdoors
    @goofyoutdoors 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The one issue with the 90 size is that when you bang it off of structure it tends to bend the wire under the plopper part and often times after just one impact it won't work right where as the 110 can take a beating. Its in the shape of the body when it transitions from the main body to the rotating part the 90 is completely flat where as the 110 is a conical shape. Funny enough the 75 is a conical shape too.

anyone else have success using them like a popper? straight and varied retrieve seem to be getting less and less strikes and i mainly fish pressured areas. For about 2 years now iv had more success working a plopper like a popper.

I have a 3700 box full of these baits and quite honestly I’ve never had a lot of success with anything top water. I don’t know if it’s me or the waters around my house but the fish don’t really care for them.
