    Went DS about 4K miles ago on my Yamaha stratoliner. Love it. Neither of my Harleys will accept a CT. As for riding "bars to bars" I never do it. No close staggered riding either, because of reasons you spoke of here. Problems you can't escape from if you have no room to maneuver, like an object in the road or a rider drifting into you.

    I know a few Goldwing rider's that run dark side, and they won't change back, mostly because they do get more mileage out of the car tire, ride safe my Yogi brother 💯👍🏼

    Great video man. Thanks. I think the next tire on my out of town bike will be a DS after watching this. Bar Hopper will stay an MC tire for sure. Thanks again

    I also found out going down the expressway and you have uneven lines due to construction if you change lanes the bike will rock back-and-forth not uncontrollable but the first time will give you a pucker😎

      @@YogisCycleService I’ve had two VTX 1800N Darkside I had to really work at the counter steering with those bikes. I just recently got a 2018 Goldwing. I changed to dark side about a month ago and this bike is so well balance there’s very little pressure to countersteer that I have to do, it handles very good in the curves.

      That is probably the same tire I tried on my FLSTF if its a 150 size tire. The only tire that I found to fit my FLSTF was a Austone Vintage Taxi Tire. I used it for 10,000 miles and it didnt work well for my bike so I took it off. On Facebook there is a group called Darkside Motorcycle Tires you can join and there is a lot of information you can find there. Good luck and thank you for commenting!!

    If u r pushing that much more to counter steer then u need to inflate the tire a bit more

      @@YogisCycleService I would think if the tire has a DOT rating and wasn't a off road or competition use only I couldn't see how insurance would care. One could say that if someone chose a different brand or type of motorcycle tire vs OEM insurance could hassle which would get most people out there riding denied by insurance in an accident. Insurance looks at tire dates and tire condition so do truck weigh masters.
      People have been running motorcycle tires on the front of hot rods on spindle mount Hildebrand 5 slot or 12 spoke for many years or other brands like Centerline or Cragar. Haha one of the reasons why I run the old Avon on my Harley's if they can handle the thrashing on a dragster or altered that has me sold. My guess is these car tires on the rear would probably handle somewhat similar to an Avon AM7 Safety Mileage Mark 2 rear 5.00-16 ? Just curious because I run that Avon 5.00-16 rear and 3.00 - 21 Speedmaster rib front on my 00 Softail Standard this combination works fine for me haha definitely not OEM. Thanks again 👍

      Darkside has been around longer than I have been alive. I'm 57 now
      we didn't have internet like we do now. Insurance goes off the born date of the tire, not the brand. as long the tire has D.O.T. it's legal.
      I talked to a state trooper while on vacation, and we were filling up our goldwings. we started talked-about motorcycles in general he asked if we had darkside, and we said, "Yes, I ask if there was an issue? He clearly stated nope non what so ever as long it has D.O.T. stamped on the tire. Come to find out, he was a harley davidson rider for over 35 years.
      I still run darkside on my wings

      I just did an 8200 mile trip cross country with many, many pass-rides (including Beartooth). I also rode Needles and a couple of hairy 30+ mile hardcore twisties (Route 20, West of the 101 in CA). Once you're used to it, you can ride anything. As pointed out in the video, ruts seem to be a magnet and in those hard twisties, it's more work for sure. I find the only time I really don't like the CT is when I'm doing high-speed sweepers. If you're pushing 80 or so in a sweeper where you'd normally lean way into it and just glide, you instead might (and I say might, as I'm not sure this is true all of the time) find the bike wanting to stand up on you. For me, it gets to the point where it oscillates between pushing back and me trying to correct it. Oddly, I do a lot of slow speed parking lot riding too and I don't really notice a difference. Only other suggestion I have is to find the tire pressure that works best for you. I ran 37 and got 20k out of my first tire. The center was gone, but the outer edges probably had another 10k left. The problem was if I rode it softer, it was squishy. I just put my MT back on, partly to compare since I had such a long time on the CT in one shot. I put a new run-flat on the other rim that has the CT on it and plan to run it lower, closer to 32psi. We'll see how it goes. Ride safe!

    I guess we should be thankful that darksiding has never moved to the front end. In the most simple terms darksiders decide to compromise safety for dollars. The implications would be much more significant if the front tire was similarly compromised. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but not every opinion is equally valid. #lthb

    • @imgzrona09uc72
      @imgzrona09uc72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry to confuse the issue with objective facts but they include these: 1. Auto tires are made with harder compounds providing less traction then motorcycle tires. 2. The bead shapes and design are not compatible on motorcycle wheels and auto tires. They may seal but they do not lock in as well. 3. The profile of motorcycle tires is consistent with how a motorcycle turns, by leaning. Auto tires are not designed for this.
      Some people use a claw hammer when a ball peen is called for, or a screwdriver in place of a chisel. All choices, but something are objectively better then others.
      When the rider hits that obstacle because that wrong shape auto tire fought him on using that last 10 degrees of lean angle to tighten up his turn his savings will become besides the point. And if that obstacle suffers PI, even if they were objectively at fault, the issues increase in complexity.
