- If you have watched the movie - Sound of Music or read the book - The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, you can relate to the real story of Maria Von Trapp. Continue reading this article to get the real story about this woman who aspired to be a nun. Did she achieve her dream?
Baroness Maria Augusta von Trapp, known as née Kutschera, was born on 26 January 1905 to Karl Kutschera and Augusta Kutschera (née Rainer). Her birth happened on a train heading to Austria, and her parents were going from their village Tyrol to a hospital in Vienna.
At the age of two, Maria lost her mother to pneumonia, and due to her father's grief, Maria and her half-brother were left in the care of her first cousin, who turned out to be her foster mother. To deal with the grief of his wife's death, Maria's father traveled worldwide; sometimes, Maria would visit him. When Maria was nine years old, she lost her father, leaving her with her foster mother and her son-in-law, who took up the role of her guardian (Uncle Franz).
Maria was a stubborn child who was always getting into trouble; history reported she tried out like this after suffering harsh treatments and punishments from her guardian for things she was innocent of. The stubbornness did not deter her from getting good grades or performing well in school.
From some source there is NO RECORD OF NAME MARIA AS A NUN IN THE CONVENT.SHE WAS STRICT WITH CHILDREN NOT LIKE JULIE ANDREW'S.
My Austrian son in law told me that Maria was abusive to the children and didn't love their father.
@@lovelyandsmartcommentator5130 Maria was temperamental and not the ladylike and graceful Maria of 'Die Trapp Familie' or 'The Sound of Music'. She was controlling. She was a victim of her traumatic and abusive childhood, and acted out because that is how she dealt with stress. For her, once she had an outburst, her humor was restored and all was well. For the object of her rage, not so much. She didn't love Georg when she married him, she did love the children. When Georg proposed, she raced back to the abbey and told the prioress her dilemma. She truly wanted to be a sister, and supposed that the abbess would put an end to her romantic troubles. The abbess met with the other sisters and prayed and realized it was God's will that she marry Georg. It may be that they knew that Maria was called to be there for a time to be formed by the sisters, but this intervention was her true calling. Maria was not happy to marry the captain but grew to love him more than anyone in her life. She mourned his passing and deeply regretted her emotional outbursts with him.
