Best video I’ve seen so far on realising a auger that with wet pellets. Mines is currently in the kitchen. I bought a 1/4 long drill bit Im about to stick through the motor end and already had a blow gun im going to put in there tomorrow.
@@bbqplus Mines had wet pellet inside the auger. It was stuck as it can be. So I grabbed a long drill bit and went through the middle. Blew and vacuumed in there with a shop vac, stuck a body shop blow gun in there and instantly started burning pellets out. After 15 mins or so I was able to start turning the auger counter clockwise and get it out. Thanks a lot for the idea.
I broke my hand doing this with a hammer drill. The better solution I found is to get a tap and dye kit from harbor freight and to tap threads on the inside of the auger motor connection and use a bolt with an impact drill.
Tim, glad to hear. I am currently using a Pit Boss as my main pellet smoker. I really like the seer plate on the PB. Had to get used to the hot spots on this grill.
Can you do a video on how the hell you got the augur box out if the grill? I've been working on a free neglected pitboss that I got for almost 12 hours now, and I cannot find the top two bolts inside to save my life (or more accurately the grills life.)
I found the manual online. Check pages 23-25 where it shows parts exploded. If you take the hopper off, you may expose additional screws to remove the auger. Good luck! www.manua.ls/pit-boss/austin-xl/manual?p=26
@@bbqplus thanks I managed to finally figure it out. It was just caked in so much blackness that it looked like a solid part of the grill till I took a torch to it. I burned it for almost 20 minutes but still can't get the auger out. Yeesh. I think this one might be worse than yours 😂
I used a wire wheel in a grinder (or a drill) to clean rust from the auger. You mainly want to clean the edges that can come in contact with the tube. You can also use Rustoleum Rust Disolver gel or soak in vinegar to remove rust.
I think I burned it for about an hour. It was so solid it took this long. Key is to have a hair dryer/heat gun/fan blowing up the tube to accelerate the burn.

I think I had mine in the garbage can a couple times... then pulled it out and tried something different :-)

Holy cow was that thing stuck! Great job getting back in working order!
Thx, i was pretty frustrated and trying the big hammer was quite therapeutic!
That was a hell of a jam! Never seen one like that! heavy duty.
Drove me crazy! So glad i was finally able to free it up.
Your trick is the best/easiest way thank you soo much
That was a lot of frustration... until i realized that pellets are made to burn!

That is a good idea! Mine was so rusted solidly, the only thing that worked was to burn it out
You are a true master
Thanks for watching!
Great video ........I was ready to go buy another one. But I'm going to try this first
Glad it helped! Good luck on your project!
Good luck!
This helped with my pitboss. Ty

@@bbqplus how long were you torching it for?

@@bbqplusthank you!
@@bbqplusfrom my understanding, you started the pellet with first and used heat gun to keep the fire going to burn through?
Bottle that! Jeff's Pellet Rust Rub
LOL... has a distinct "mineral" and "earthy" taste on the palate!
