Sometimes I speed videos up to 1.25x (that way I can watch more videos😂), but James has to be slowed down to 0.5-0.75x🙈 not that I watch his videos anyway, unless I want to torture my ears, but his profession should be an auctioneer. He would do great!

He’s critiquing their technique and not them. I found him a few weeks ago and he’s my fav person to watch. I don’t watch too many other people because they are all about pushing products and not techniques and tips.

What I’ve noticed about a lot of TH-cam gurus is that they’re use if a lot of drag techniques in their applications, which is fine and dandy and exciting to see as a baby drag queen myself, but a lot of those techniques aren’t meant for everyday wear. The heavy concealing, extra color correcting, baking in excess are all techniques for performance and theatrical makeup so half your face doesn’t slough off in the middle of a routine.

I’m not gonna lie, the more I play with makeup and learn about it, the less of it I actually use. I know a lot of these makeup trends and techniques are useful or popular but I think people don’t really look at their face and decide if they actually like the way it looks. They just like it because it looks Instagram-y.
Honestly it might be because he's being paid to sell those products. If he's showing to people to use lots and then using facetune to sell perfection, he's probably selling more product.

One of the best things I ever learned from Robert Welsh that I never got from a single beauty guru is that I don't need as much make up and I don't need to do EVERYTHING all of the time. It makes me feel SO much more beautiful and confident on a daily basis.

He has a great nose, not sure why he contoured it so much, it’s too thin. He would look so much better leaving it a little bigger. So many people do that and their noses end up being too small for their faces.
Many people have body dysmorphia and as far as face goes they use make up to not look at their real selves. Even though James looks happy with himself most of the time, we don't know if that's not the case. He just might see his own face differently than us - besides it just could be his preference with more defined and snatched features.
Facial features are a personal preference. Sometimes he contours his nose alot and sometimes he doesn't, it depends on what he wants to look like. He's spoken about how he prefers a super small, snatched nose, he knows what he looks like lol

You know that saying "Less is More" that includes makeup and for me its fact. Since watching your videos I use less concealer/ powder(I learned real quick baking was NOT for me) and my makeup looks better for longer so thank you. I used to make makeup tutorials for a minute but then left the community because I don’t do the stereotypical “beauty guru techniques”. Honestly so many people are tired of the excessive makeup look, that if you did start making videos again, you would probably do really well. We all did our makeup like them and as soon as we stepped outside into natural lighting we were like "Hey... maybe these assholes DON'T know what they're doing and they just wanna sell us shit" 😂
After discovering this channel, everyone I watch another youtuber "baking" or piling on the concealer I cringe. I've totally changed my makeup routine and have noticed my face looks and feels so much less "makeup-y".
I've dry dehydrated skin and Robert's technique is no joke the only way to apply concealer I've found that does not make me look 95. I absolutely love this and have changed so much of my make up application thanks to this wonderful channel 😊
Selin The one that I use now is the smash box contour palette, it comes with a greyish contour colour, a bronzer and a powder that brightens, its actually quite good, just looking for a change.

I'm so happy that there's a famous makeup artist/influencer/etc. who is FINALLY saying that all these extra makeup layers and products are completely unnecessary and don't translate well to real life. I know a 15 year old with perfect skin who thinks she needs a clowns triangle of concealer under her eyes because she watches way too many makeup influencer tutorials. This is so refreshing.

Totally agree ^^^^^^^^^ !!! I find Tati has tip's and info throughout a lot of her video's so wouldn't have know which one to pin point for sure, but this could be a good one. She has said in the past that she does her make up in the video heavier because she knows she is filming, but on the everyday won't use any where near as much when she isn't filming. 😁

I'm 33 and never have I ever worn fake lashes. As a mom of 4, it's just not practical for me. I truly wish more beauty tubers would create content that does not feature fake lashes.
Getting off topic: could you do a video with James about your childhood, about your career paths, parents, and so on? I've been classmates (many years ago, lol) with two sets of twins, and the things they did were comical. You and your brother have wonderful personalities, and I would like to hear about that part of your life, if you don't mind.
I went to school with a total of 5 sets of twins between the grade below me, my own grade and the grade above me, with 3 sets in my class; 2 being identical and one fraternal and they were always hilarious, I remember several times when they would try to switch places (usually every time we entered a new school or if we knew there was going to be a substitute that hadn’t taught our class before) and being in a school system where you’re with the same classmates from k-12, even though we went to a total of 5 different school buildings in those years (k-2, 3-6, 7-8, 9, 10-12), we were all immediately on to them. It’s crazy that even having only just discovered Robert a couple weeks ago, and having never watched James’ videos either, after watching just 2 videos, I saw a recommendation in my feed for a skincare video and immediately knew it had to be his twin. I think anyone who spends a lot of time around identical twins just instinctively looks for the differences instead of assuming they are the same person. I know I came home after living in another province for almost 25 years and the first time I saw one of the twins a year older than me, I still knew immediately which name to say out loud. Long winded way to say, I would also love to see this type of video between them, I loved the last q&a on James’ channel and his attempt to do makeup on here.

But I'm glad to hear feedback from another MUA about that. I mean, if they like that type of makeup, fine, but I always wonder how they manage to tolerate having so much makeup on their face. Even BB creams are too much for me, I only use a thin layer of medium coverage liquid foundation to simply unify my skintone while keeping the skin as light and natural as possible.

J K right? I don’t use bronzer, contour, setting powders, or even eyeliner anymore. I simply don’t like the way my face looks with it!
this. ive gone back to more natural steps. less steps. more simple looks. getting ready takes way less time these days lol
I hardly use eye shadow anymore and only occasionally use mascara. Discovered that less is more

One of the best things I ever learned from Robert Welsh that I never got from a single beauty guru is that I don't need as much make up and I don't need to do EVERYTHING all of the time.
It makes me feel SO much more beautiful and confident on a daily basis.

He has a great nose, not sure why he contoured it so much, it’s too thin. He would look so much better leaving it a little bigger. So many people do that and their noses end up being too small for their faces.

I think his contour is great!! I think facial features are all about personal preference.
Many people have body dysmorphia and as far as face goes they use make up to not look at their real selves. Even though James looks happy with himself most of the time, we don't know if that's not the case. He just might see his own face differently than us - besides it just could be his preference with more defined and snatched features.
Facial features are a personal preference. Sometimes he contours his nose alot and sometimes he doesn't, it depends on what he wants to look like. He's spoken about how he prefers a super small, snatched nose, he knows what he looks like lol

Since watching your videos I use less concealer/ powder(I learned real quick baking was NOT for me) and my makeup looks better for longer so thank you. Selin The one that I use now is the smash box contour palette, it comes with a greyish contour colour, a bronzer and a powder that brightens, its actually quite good, just looking for a change.

I'm so happy that there's a famous makeup artist/influencer/etc. who is FINALLY saying that all these extra makeup layers and products are completely unnecessary and don't translate well to real life. I know a 15 year old with perfect skin who thinks she needs a clowns triangle of concealer under her eyes because she watches way too many makeup influencer tutorials. This is so refreshing.

Getting off topic: could you do a video with James about your childhood, about your career paths, parents, and so on? I've been classmates (many years ago, lol) with two sets of twins, and the things they did were comical. You and your brother have wonderful personalities, and I would like to hear about that part of your life, if you don't mind.
I went to school with a total of 5 sets of twins between the grade below me, my own grade and the grade above me, with 3 sets in my class; 2 being identical and one fraternal and they were always hilarious, I remember several times when they would try to switch places (usually every time we entered a new school or if we knew there was going to be a substitute that hadn’t taught our class before) and being in a school system where you’re with the same classmates from k-12, even though we went to a total of 5 different school buildings in those years (k-2, 3-6, 7-8, 9, 10-12), we were all immediately on to them.
It’s crazy that even having only just discovered Robert a couple weeks ago, and having never watched James’ videos either, after watching just 2 videos, I saw a recommendation in my feed for a skincare video and immediately knew it had to be his twin. I think anyone who spends a lot of time around identical twins just instinctively looks for the differences instead of assuming they are the same person. I know I came home after living in another province for almost 25 years and the first time I saw one of the twins a year older than me, I still knew immediately which name to say out loud.
Long winded way to say, I would also love to see this type of video between them, I loved the last q&a on James’ channel and his attempt to do makeup on here.

Edit: regarding the amount of makeup used, I think starting makeup directly with Lisa Eldridge helped me in that matter, and I thought I was judgemental towards beauty gurus like James Charles because I disagreed with the face full of makeup... But I'm glad to hear feedback from another MUA about that. I mean, if they like that type of makeup, fine, but I always wonder how they manage to tolerate having so much makeup on their face. Even BB creams are too much for me, I only use a thin layer of medium coverage liquid foundation to simply unify my skintone while keeping the skin as light and natural as possible.
