I’ve been a puppeteer for 11 years, started when I was about 10 and even quit sports to be a puppeteer. Now I teach it at the private school I graduated from, and even though she’s taken it too far I have to admit it is somewhat nice to see someone who has a love for it. It’s a dying art, and it makes me so sad that people have a “horror movie” type stigma around puppets and people who love them, because it’s a LOT harder than people think and when done right it can be a really fun experience so seeing her love for it did give me a little joy. And jealousy seeing her puppet collection lol 😂. I mean, I’ve seen many weird puppets and I will say hers are kinda creepy but some of them looked really well made, and those ventriloquism puppets can be really expensive so she probably laid down some cash on those bad boys.
This is actually really interesting, look at what the puppet is saying right before she meets the therapist, she's saying what we're all thinking, the person KNOWS it's weird and the puppet kinda acts like this subconscious bringing to the surface what wants to come out.
Listen pewds as child it's acceptable and cute instead of cringe. This is a full grown woman who needs therapy so she can talk comfortably without a "mask". I feel like these puppets are some kind of coping mechanism for some kind of communication trama.
There’s a convention for them. Vice did a video and interviewed lots. They all said the same thing that that had social anxiety and used the puppets to socialize but they need help lmao not puppets
It does seem like a coping mechanism, especially when the doll was portraying a side of her that seemed aware it wasn't normal. I think she knows it isn't, but just like someone with an addiction who feels vulnerable keeps going back. My guess is that she genuinely feels like she isn't alone with the puppets and they are people, might've come from a trauma of being unable to interact with other people and make connections, so she created her own and then got stuck in it. Kinda reminds me of friends you could have in late teens who were way too shy to interact but wanted to, alongside having parents that kept pushing them down, hence they got into drinking a lot during parties to feel more bold, and eventually get stuck in that addiction of alcohol and its effects as they grow up.
@@DakotaDreamers I don’t want to be the person who makes a connection between people speaking/living through puppets and some of the furry fandom and some fursuiters… But as a longtime furry who has recently been questioning if the fact I’ve always felt Comfortable expressing myself that way while also having a terribly long history of not feeling or even believing myself to be a human… It could just be me personally. And the few furry cons I’ve been to were very fun. But just hearing that other ventriloquists mentioned social anxiety and the puppets as an aid… Idk I’ve heard a lot about social anxiety and feeling ostracized from other furries and I know I had that issue too. I went to high school with her. I can tell you this is genuinely her personality and not an act. She’s actually exceptionally sweet, but we thought this was weird even back then 🤣.

“2.5 kids” is an extremely common phrase in the U.S. It’s actually kind of bizarre that Ken’s never heard it. It basically just means to have a traditional nuclear family. They say “2.5” because the average number of children for an American household to have, statistically, is 2.5.
@@tishlinda it’s just how the number comes out when a country is counting their population. It’s dumb and weird but I guess you could say “that’s just how the experts do it” or “that’s what the google says”
it was 2.5 a very long time ago, now it's 1.6, well below replacement, which are why governments are so keen on immigration, so the population doesn't drop 25% in one generation.
I think the face is just a learned trait. She's actively setting her face in one way whenever she has the puppet talk, over time she's gotten really used to it. So now whenever her face doesn't need to do much, it idles on that exact pose!

@@rusi6219 it is ideal as you gov want populations to grow, more workers means more tax income, simple as that. That's why the gov is so terrified with the current rate of 1.6, so the are cranking up the immigration to make sure the tax dollars still come rolling in.
The average family used to have 2.5 children. So in other words the mother was saying she wants her daughter to live an average life and have an average family. In the UK the average family now has 1.7 children and 1.4 parents... And half a dog 🐕
You know a part of this is sad. For April to not feel comfortable expressing negative comments herself either she was treated as an infant throughout her entire life or she suffered some terrible trauma.
2.5 is the averaged out amount of children in an American household, it comes to that number to average out the families with one child vs a family with six kids ect.
It’s a saying I’ve heard many times, but I usually heard 2 and half kids. “When I get older I want the nuclear family; ya know married with the 2 and half kids kinda life”.
The term "2.5 children" comes from data from years ago that said the 'average' family had 2.5 children. So the mom is basically saying she wished her daughter just went the average route-popped out a couple kids, did the 9 to 5 and grandma's on Sunday...

My dad used to be in a puppeteer group (not ventriloquists) in the early 90s that would visit hospitals and schools and various other places and perform music for kids. His love for it is more wholesome than cringe though, he only brings them out now when someone wants to see them but he still LOVES talking about it.
So I have an embarrassing story like Felix does! In middle school, I was getting super into puppets as well. Buying them and making them. I had these two puppets that were a monkey and a regular guy one. Class pictures were coming up and I got the great idea in my head to bring the guy puppet to school in my backpack, and whip it out while waiting in line to get my photo taken. I convinced the photographer that “my mom said it was okay” and got my picture taken with this puppet. Later that day when I got home, my mom received a call from the school asking about the photos and if she had given me permission. I was grounded and had to retake the photo again the next day. I eventually grew out of that phase, but that memory haunts me with cringe sometimes.
I remember in elementary school, getting picked to put on a puppet show for another class. I forget how many kids were picked. But we were waiting for something, and I started doing stuff with my puppet making the kids laugh. Being shy I thought this is great! I can make kids laugh, and they couldn't see me, but I guess the teacher though I was getting carried away, because I got sent back to my class.
6:14 I learned about this in History class! So my teacher told us that there was a survey in America 1950s, or somewhere around there, on what is considered “The Perfect Family”. It’s what you imagine: white picket fence, a big house, a big backyard, a mother and a father with the father working and the mom stay-at-home. The survey concluded that 2.5 kids was the perfect number (based on responses). This number confused a lot of people because it was decimal and exactly between 2 and 3, meaning there was no definite answer. This absurd conclusion to a question everyone was interested in in the 1950s became so popular that it is still used nowadays when describing “The Perfect Family”.
Her ex was probably chill with the puppets until they went to family events or on vacations. That end credit sounded like this was the first time she didn't drag them along to see extended family. Bet the puppet was in the background of the proposal pictures.

she uses a puppet so she does not know how to exprss herself in social situations? What does that make u that u use a fake profile name online to hide behind a fake identity? Does that ring a bell?
EDIT: Bruh , taking a second look at ur comment u just describe the whole INTERNET media. Profiles online are the exact thing u talked about.

She could've recommended better options than "Yoga" like does she looks like she wanna do yoga? Lol

@@GeorgeG90 I'm not hiding behind a profile lmao. Why are you mad first of all? I'm currently a psychology student in college so this was simply my opinion on what is happening. It's not like I was stating anything controversial so I don't know why you're so upset about it....
When the mom said the only thing she wants for her daughter is, I thought she was gonna follow that with for her to be happy but no she wants her to have a husband and kids. Lol. I mean it's obsessive and probably not healthy at this point, but there is stuff behind why she is this way, and a husband and kids won't fix that and will not make her happy which leads to the whole family being unhappy.
100% You have to get yourself right before you can expect to hold a healthy relationship
Maybe she's subconsciously trying to keep people from getting too close because she doesn't want to get married and have kids.
Ya its kinda strange how the mom wants her daughter to just have an average life. She didnt say she wants her to be happy, just average life.
Could be figure of speech as in, get a normal relationship etc you know what actual normal people do, just guessing tho 🤷♂️
It’s the usual entitlement of ‘I want grandkids!’
I mean, I’ve seen many weird puppets and I will say hers are kinda creepy but some of them looked really well made, and those ventriloquism puppets can be really expensive so she probably laid down some cash on those bad boys.
genuinely speaking I think she's having a breakdown and expressing it thru these puppets LMFAO
My thoughts exactly. What she is doing is not just "weird" but unhealthy.

I feel like if her mom had encouraged and praised her more when she was a kid, she wouldn't have isolated herself like this. Even now, her mom is telling her that the choices she makes aren't good enough, and she wants her to be someone else, her idea of a "perfect" daughter. If that therapist really wanted to help, she should've asked, "How is your relationship with your family?"
Almost every single mental issue people have comes from their parents or people they grew up with. Kinda weird how a psychologist doesn't think to ask that question first.
The therapist could have asked it but TLC did not include it in the show. Its not like TLC will show the whole consultation
@@hinatamercury True, knowing TLC they probably edited it out to make it look like she isn’t making any progress. Who knows, she’s probably in a really good place now
You can't attack the Mum for been concerned about her daughters behaviour. Your saying she wants the 'perfect' daughter, want she wants is a 'happy' daughter and it is obvious she is not happy, to an extreme. If the Mum didn't care, she wouldn't say anything. People need to listen to critique from a place of caring more.
@@kingcosworth2643 Remember how she said that all she wants for her daughter is to have a husband and kids? I'm pretty sure we all expected to hear happy, but that's not what she said. she just wants her daughter to have a husband and children
“2.5 kids” is an extremely common phrase in the U.S. It’s actually kind of bizarre that Ken’s never heard it.
It basically just means to have a traditional nuclear family. They say “2.5” because the average number of children for an American household to have, statistically, is 2.5.
But…how?
@@tishlinda it’s just how the number comes out when a country is counting their population. It’s dumb and weird but I guess you could say “that’s just how the experts do it” or “that’s what the google says”
@@tishlinda because its an average. Averages arent usually whole numbers. Its got nothing to do with individual children
@@tishlinda it just mean 2 to 3 kids.
it was 2.5 a very long time ago, now it's 1.6, well below replacement, which are why governments are so keen on immigration, so the population doesn't drop 25% in one generation.
I think the face is just a learned trait.
She's actively setting her face in one way whenever she has the puppet talk, over time she's gotten really used to it.
So now whenever her face doesn't need to do much, it idles on that exact pose!
The look and smile on her face when the therapist talks to her looks EXACTLY like Fred the barber from "Courage the cowardly dog."
Dead on the inside zone out eyes and the creepy professional smile to try and convince people your actually engaged in what they are saying.
NAUGHTY
Oh god i remember that episode like it was yesterday. One the funniest, creepiest & weirdest episodes of courage lol. She really does have that look at that moment 😂
There's alot of past trauma taking form as a puppet .
Amazing how humans can cope with trauma even if it looks weird to other people
Reminds when I was a kid and I went to church and our church had a kids youth group that had a “puppet choir.” We would have hand puppets and would perform behind curtains and had our own music shows and we traveled to puppet workshops and performed at other churches. This post unlocked weird memories for me. It was fun but very weird. Lol
Did this at my church too. We did it during Vacation Bible School for the younger kids every summer.
They still do this at my church lol
@@samdolan09 wow really? That’s cool. It was fun but looking back on it but I guess it would be weird and awkward to some people. Some people in general find puppets weird and creepy. I hated going into the youth room to grab puppets when we had practice and the room would be dark. Those puppets sometimes would scare the poop out of me before I turned on the lights. Lol

The 2.5 kids is about the average number of kids during the "white picket fence" era.
It means two healthy children and one that's mentally deficient
I know the above is a joke.. But it actually means most people either had 2 or 3 children and that was considered ideal.
@@PoptartParasol it's nowhere near ideal as you need minimum 2.1 children per couple statistically to sustain your society until the next generation
@@rusi6219 it is ideal as you gov want populations to grow, more workers means more tax income, simple as that. That's why the gov is so terrified with the current rate of 1.6, so the are cranking up the immigration to make sure the tax dollars still come rolling in.
@@kingcosworth2643 no I mean it is not ideal as it is the bare minimum for growth.
The average family used to have 2.5 children. So in other words the mother was saying she wants her daughter to live an average life and have an average family.
In the UK the average family now has 1.7 children and 1.4 parents... And half a dog 🐕

If people with multiple personalities could learn to express themselves with puppets perhaps it would be positive outlet

2.5 kids is the average number of kids in a family
Wait! "Na, it was a monkey." And Ken was unfazed.

My favorite youtube duo, love you guys. Thanks for your work.
This is the best ever Felix moment Ken video, I couldn't stop laughing!

Don’t cry because it’s gonna mess with your eye make up and then it will mess with mine too. What a sociopathic insensitive thing to say.
its literally the opposite of what you just said. she is saying if her mom cries it's gonna make her cry too, which is obviously empathy.

Her ex was probably chill with the puppets until they went to family events or on vacations. That end credit sounded like this was the first time she didn't drag them along to see extended family. Bet the puppet was in the background of the proposal pictures.
