  • The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Kyoto, but sadly many of you are stuck at home at the moment. We are lucky enough to have a gorgeous weeping cherry tree in the back garden, so thought it would be nice to show you an outdoor tea ceremony beneath the sakura.
Outdoor tea ceremonies, known as Nodate (野点), are quite different from those performed in tearooms and teahouses. Much like a picnic, all the equipment needed for the ceremony is carried in a box called a Chabako (茶箱).
We hope you enjoy the tea ceremony and the blossoms.
Best wishes, from the team at Camellia.

I love the pureness and honesty in this ceremony. Showing respect to someone in such a nice and calm way and same time not acting „sensational“. Thank you very much for sharing this treasure, I hope, to witness this one day too.

I LOVE chado but chabako seems very illusive I can't find a lot of information about it so seeing it preformed it's amazing!! Thank you

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful otemae! Which school is this? Also, is it ok to add a small kensui under chawan? If not, how do people transporta tea kettle, furo, and kensui? Also, where are you located? Are you offering lessons at the location? Thank you so much!!❤

So beautiful! May I ask what kind of heat source is under the tea pot? Just a candle or an alcohol burner? And how do you know that the water has the right temperature? Thanks a lot!

Hi Susanne, thank you for your message. It's a candle in the holder. The secret of knowing the temperature is.., experience :) Well, actually, considering it gets colder with just a little candle, we put boiling water in the pre-heated kettle, then it should be a good temperature in about 5 minutes.

More specifically, it is called U no Hana temae , one of the six kinds of chabako temae.
