@@nugo344 You should reread Norwegian history, cause almost all of your statements are not true.
      1. Norway was in union with Denmark until early 1814, when Norway (minus the counties of Jarlsberg and Laurvig) were taken from Denmark and given to Sweden, we were not released. This was because Denmark had supported Napoleon in the wars. Jarlsberg and Laurvig "rejoined" Norway in 1817.
      2. The union with Sweden was a personal union, meaning we had the same monarch, but our own boundaries, laws, and interests.
      3. The Norwegian flag was approved for civilian use by royal order in council on 13 July 1821, almost 100 years before our "freedom" in 1905. The national and merchant flag for Norway from 1844 to 1899 was the flag we have now, but with a mix of that flag and the Swedish one in top left quadrant, that mix is also known as "sildesalaten". In 1899 the Norwegian parliament abolished the sildesalat from the Norwegian flag. The Swedes kept it in their flags until 1905.

@@monicabredenbekkskaar1612 That's exactly what we did though. The cross in the flag is called "The Nordic Cross". When Norway got its flag in 1821, they decided that it should have the colours of liberty; the red, the white and the blue. The flag is a deep red, with a white nordic cross as a memory to the danish union, while the blue was a humble gesture to our new union with Sweden.
The nordic cross is carried in the flags of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Åland and The Farao Islands.
Daneborg, the Danish national flag, is the worlds oldest national flag. Then Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland followed. Norway had the first nordic cross flag with three colours.
The dimentions of the Norwegian National Flag are actually quite simple; 6-1-2-1-12 by 6-1-2-1-6. This means 6 red, 1 white, 2 blue, 1 white, 12 red x 6 red, 1 white, 2 blue, 1 white, 6 red.

But I think it might (big emphasis on might) reference the Norwegian Snipers during WW2 that - if I remember correctly from what I heard a long time ago - managed to fend off the Germans that heavily outnumbered the Norwegian snipers. 04:57 Ok, I had to look up the free parking because this is the first I'd heard about it. Turns out that, according to this article from TU (back in 2018) that I'm reading, some cities do offer free parking for electric cars, however, these are generally only municipal parking sones, while private operators parking sones (I assume this means parking spots owned by businesses, etc.) may charge electric cars for parking if they wish.

    • @John_1920
      @John_1920 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I found another article from Norsk Elbilforening back in 2022, still out of date, but much more recent compared to the one from TU, on this article it shows where you have free parking for electric cars, where they charge up to 50% of the regular parking prices, and where they charge 100% of the regular parking prices. Based on this article, - where there's only listed 4 places with free parking, 13 places that's within 50% (not free, but also not over 50%), and with a whopping 42 places that charge full price, - it would seem that what I've been hearing over the years since they first started selling electric cars in Norway has been true. That being that they started out with insane benefits for electric car owners but, then over time, slowly took away one benefit after the other as electric cars got more and more popular and plentiful on the roads. I think this is largely due to the fact that they likely realized it wouldn't be feasible to continue providing the same insane amount of benefits when there were so many more hundreds of thousands of electric car owners now, compared to back when they first announced the many benefits.

The Danish flag was the first one with a cross. The Dannebrog was first seen in the 13th century. Sweden got it's blue and yellow flag in the 16th century. Norway was in a union with Denmark and had the same flag and we wanted to show our independence from Denmark by changing the flag. The winning suggestion was the one drawing a smaller blue cross within the white cross. That brought continuity while we showed we weren't part of Denmark anymore.
Sadly short after Norway got independence from Denmark in 1814 Norway was given to Sweden as part of the negotiations after the Napoleonic wars. Sweden lost Finland to Russia during the Napoleonic wars after Russia invaded Sweden. Sweden didn't accept Norwegian independence and invaded Norway in 1814. Then we got into a forced union with them which lasted until 1905. During that time Norway had it's regular new flag, but with half of the the Swedish flag in the upper right corner. Sweden had it's regular blue and yellow flag with half of the the Norwegian flag in the upper right corner.
So we can say that Denmark and Sweden brought the flags with crosses in the Nordic countries. Finland got it's flag in 1918 when they got independence from Russia. Iceland got it's flag in 1913.
Other countries European with crosses in their flag are Scotland, Northern Ireland, England (combined United Kingdom), Switzerland, Greece, Georgia, Faroe island, Åland islands, Some countries have smaller crosses in the central shield part of their flag like Slovakia and Serbia.

The no taxes, free parking etc. only applied to electrical cars. This was done to promote people buying those cars. Now 90% of new cars sold are electric so the benefits are or will be removed.
Norway like to use both a carrot and a stick to change people's behavior. Offering less taxes to promote certain sales has always been a very useful carrot. We low less taxes.

It could be that the Star Wars link to the Norwegian army is that we have a fantasy army, i. e. almost non-existent. Our army is so small these days. Norway have about 25.000 active personell. It can be increased to about 83.000 through mobilization.
Our navy has 5 frigates, 6 missile torpedo boats and 6 submarines. We have 25 F-35 fighter jets which will increase to 52 as we're giving our F-16 fighters to the Ukraine. Norway just ordered 52 Leopard 2A7 battle tanks to replace our old Leopard 2 battle tanks.
Norway's goal in case of invasion is to be able to hold the Russians for just 3 days until reinforcements arrive from our NATO Allies. Since our terrain is to hard to fight in and Norway is so narrow it's expected the Russians can only capture most of Finnmark before they're stopped with NATO reinforcements.
Having said that Norway are producing one of the most advanced battle systems in the world for anti-aircraft (NASAMS), artillery ammo etc. So Norway could have used our weath to become a formidable opponent to any country. So far it's only fantasy like Reagan's Starwars SDI defense system was against nuclear missiles in the 1980's.

Before 1939 and the Winter war with Soviet, Finland had a coast upp north. To the north was Finland's only ice-free port in the Arctic, Petsamo. The Finns lacked the manpower to defend it fully, as the main front was distant at the Karelian Isthmus. In the battle of Petsamo, the Soviet 104th Division attacked the Finnish 104th Independent Cover Company. The Finns abandoned Petsamo and concentrated on delaying actions. The area was treeless, windy, and relatively low, offering little defensible terrain. The almost constant darkness and extreme temperatures of the Lapland winter benefited the Finns, who executed guerrilla attacks against Soviet supply lines and patrols. As a result, the Soviet movements were halted by the efforts of one-fifth as many Finns.
My grandmother lived in Petsamo and had to flee to the south of Finland.

We having five weeks of holiday. Three are forced too take out in the summer by the arbeidsmiljøloven (the Working Environment Act) not too save up the days over years and it's just for the health and productivity. Make alot of sense because it's been 6 months without any seriously holidays without the weekend. May could have some red days that's help you out little bit too boost your energy up till June, july and August.
Then we having two weeks left. If there are some red days (for example thursday) many would take out extra long weekend and then save the rest of it too christmas. We would normally have three holidays (red days) in Norway, but could also take out rest of the 2 weeks that's left or if we had been had overtime we could also take out everything at that moment.
So very often it could lead into many days with holidays because the weekend, red days etc.
I'm feeling little bit bad for American people who having two and three jobs and not getting more holidays.
I wouldn't be survive that specially when we are thinking about the long days you guys having.
Late us be honest about the flags... norwegian is the best!
And for the wealth we had in our earlier days Norwegians have been very humble about it because janteloven.
Even as a norwegian i didn't know that we were so wealthy even before the oil because it's never been really talked about we had always had that in school that we were poor or less the average then with rest of the countries, but that's not true.
But it's one of the good thing i love about Norway. How humble we are about it.
You should not think that you are something! This is rule number one in the janteloven!
Never been talking about that we have been wealthy earlier days, but like the video you did watch we kinda always been wealthy so that's the reason alot of people still belives we were poor in the earlier days. Even today people don't like too be talking about the oilfund etc. because Norwegian government are pretending it does not exist (too cool the economy down) and just taken the money from the fiscal rule we can be spending money with.
And yeah we did not long time ago discovered phosphate that's worth most likely between $1 and 3 trillion in todays value.
Some estimates there should been about $2 trillion in value, and we had alot of smaller discoveries about $10 billions and $100-200 billions.

All three countries have their centers of power and largest population in the south. In Sweden and Finland there were large forest areas that bounded the country to the north. In Norway it was easy to travel further north because we are a coastal nation. The area between the countries in the north was largely wasteland, populated only by nomadic Sami. During the Viking Age, Norwegians and Sami agreed on where the border between the lands of the two peoples was. The Danes who controlled Norway for 500 years had no qualms about colonizing the Sami's land, and it was easier to do it from the sea than it was for our neighbours; through the Swedish and Finnish forests. That is why Norway has such a long coastline. It is really the country of two peoples.
Norway and Sweden are separated by a mountain range, which forms a natural border. Sweden and Finland also expanded into Sapmi, and both countries have at one point had contact with the sea in the north. For a short period, Sweden had a small part of today's Norway, but was unable to hold on to it. Finland's contact with the sea is today part of Russia.

norway found a bunch of phosphate in stavanger that's basically so big that norway have basically half of the whole worlds supply or something. but it's so deep underground that we don't really have a way to extract it at the moment (if i'm not mistaken). so in theory yes. we have alot of phosphate. however we can't really capitalize on it just yet. because of alot of reasons such as technology advancements. aswell as the fact that the EU is screwing us over.

Norwegian Yule is 21 days. Christmas is one day; it's the One day, for those who believe in it. I don't. Yule is for _everyone_. Yule is for Christians and Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and anyone who wants to celebrate with us. There is only one rule for Yule; we are all together.

    • @jeschinstad
      @jeschinstad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@venorando3672 Yes, the celebration in December is called Jul in Norwegian, but the English word is Yule. It is an ancient celebration of the end of darkness. It begins with Yule Night, which is the major celebration where we eat a nice meal and share gifts. This begins on December 24th and lasts for three days. What we call Juletiden, and in English is called Yuletide, lasts until January 13th, which we call The Thirteenth Day of Yule.

    - The ocean water is pretty cold in the south of Norway, too.
    - The US was busy fighting in WWII and providing 6 of every 7 barrels of oil used by the Allies; meanwhile, Norway was busy being occupied by the Germans.

08:13 I haven't actually looked this up, so do some research before taking me on my word as I may very well be wrong. I believe the reason there are so many flags of that sort of design (two squares and two rectangles split by a cross) is due to the wide reach Christianity had way back when. Meaning that the flags were influenced by Christianity, likely due to the strong influence the religion had on he many countries' people back then.

No sales tax? No road tax? I don't think a Norweigan made that meme. The Sales tax on cars is basically 100%. So if the price of the car is 10 grand another 10 grand is tax and it ends up costing 20 grand. Almost every new road is funded by expsnive road tolls, and parking isn't more free than any other place (in small towns in scandinavia parking is often free and in bigger cities it tends to get ridiculously expensive especially in Norway).

CHRISTMAS: In Norway, many people take a Christmas holiday. These are the days between 24/12 and 31/12. This year, there are probably many who save these days off, since 24/12 is on a Tuesday, so then there are public holidays from Monday 24/12 to 26/12, which is Thursday, possibly someone taking a day off Friday 27/12, and Monday 23/12 because then they get 9 days holiday in practice. If Christmas can be called a holiday then?
