As a diehard VDH since BfA who took some time off of tanking and returned this season to the rude awakening of tank and VDH changes going into TWW, this commentary was awesome. I usually play just above the KSH key level on my VDH, so it was nice to hear your thought processes behind your gameplay and get confirmation on some of the ways I've been thinking since returning and gearing late in the season. I didn't do a 14 at 616, I'm not that sharp, but I was starting to do 10s around 610 and had to be really thoughtful about how I played.
Love it man. Keep up the grind, I really enjoy vdh right now, I’m happy they fixed the crest acquisition so I can play it more into the new years! I’m glad this video was helpful :)
this was amazing video, I'm starting with tanks and this is exactly the type of video I need, to understand how a tank thinks and the process of tanking a dungeon
I really liked the healing out loud video you did. Or healing commentary video. Specifically Pres Evoker for me. I learned a lot from that video. Just passed a 7 key yesterday. Had a good pug group finally. I'm still a healer in training lol. I have not run these dungeons 100 times like other ppl. As a new player, lots to learn and remember, but getting the mechanics down makes it much easier. Another heal video request plz!
Congratulations on the 7, and I’m glad you enjoyed the evoker video! I plan on doing more when I get back from vacation, I have a few videos saved but I do upload other specs as well. Evoker is my focus but I love playing all roles in m+ :)
Really great video man, I'll definitely be checking back for any future veng dh video stuff. I'm getting roasted in 10s and I think my main takeaway is that I'm just not using Fiery Brand to its highest potential. Like I know I'm really sloppy with it and watching this has convinced me that's probably half the problem lol. I guess it feels like it's so powerful that it seems wrong to blow it immediately which usually is okay for me in like a 7-8, but man in a 10 it's a whole different story. Definitely gonna manage my cds more thoughtfully after watching this.
@@ryersonlive specifically the managing of uptime and what not, most WOWhead esque stuff is just gonna tell you what stuff does and how. the insight gained from actually playing an understanding the class really appreciate!
This was incredibly helpful. I mained brewmaster for 3 expansions and I started to mess around with VDH but would get stomped randomly during pulls in a +12 even at 630ilvl and other +12 runs would go smooth. Couldn't identify the issue but figured it was a skill issue having only played for not even 2 months yet with it. From the video and understanding the rotation based off how you described each pull in this video my health barely moved the next +12 I did. Silly stuff like CD spread and optimization of that defensive rotation is all it really was. Understanding when CD gaps appear and when to kite since I can't just stagger my way to victory was helpful too. Thank you!
Glad this helped! I think a lot of tanking is really breaking things down and spreading them out. Too many tanks fall into the damage trap from some guide information, and it ends up costing them big time. Good luck on your journey, I also am a brewmaster main who came over, I think brew needs some love... but maybe we'll be back in the future
@ian5065 mind if i ask how you feel between the brewmaster and vdh? I am really wanting to get into tanking and have been playing a few different ones at low level keys to get a feel, but still unsure - most my characters are overgeared for the 2s-4s i have been doing so it's hard to say how complex they are vs during having gear compensate for mistakes. The three i have been looking at are brewmaster, vdh, and bdk. I really like the movement and fewer key binds that VDH offers, i like the class lore and idea behind stagger, and love the self sustain that dk has. The biggest downside i have with brewmaster is it just feels like a lot to track, in addition to dungeon mechanics, lots of buttons to track and press, and managing stagger too. Brew also feels like it needs more healing support than vdh or bdk. BDK feels good for the selfsustain, but again it seems like there is a lot to track with boneshield, runes, and runic power - plus they also have a ton of buttons and cds to track. VDH seems like it has far less to track, but also feels like its far more kiting is needed. I know a lot recommend starting with guardian or protwar as it's far simpler to get into and learn general tanking mechanics, but i am just not a fan of those classes :P Curious your thoughts, and how approachable brew is especially from maining a brew for 3 expansions. Thanks in advance!
I love brewmaster and it’s a tank spec I enjoy for the absolute difficulty. Unlike other tanks. Brew relies strictly on rotation and to the second micro management to survive against countering “rot” for yourself. Meaning that you need to plot out your purifies/cb/defensives and really maximize your rotation to get the most out of it. It probably took me around 100 kegs to even be good at brew baseline, another 100 to get superbly acquainted with it. I think it’s a tough spec to pick up and master, but I recommend if you want a challenge it’s worth while. I think you will be frustrated learning it as compared to some of the other tanks, as brew can feel insanely squishy without a reliable healer around
Impressive. I was looking for a DH guide and found this video. thanks for the detailed recap on your key Btw: what is that weakaura for Boss cooldowns in that bar moving downwards?
That weakaura is called boss ability timeline, it can be found on Wago.io! Thanks for the watch :) Hopefully I'll be releasing more content here as I just returned from vacation
I'm impressed you manage to make it look easy. Also I noticed you also picked an haste potion instead of versatility. Why is that recommended? I was told to use versa pot for survival, yet I die way more often that you do, even with more iLVL. I am very new to the game (played only 6 months back on shadowlands and now came back and been on a month only) so I lack a lot of knowledge regarding this.
I think that haste is more important when you have less of it. Also a lot people look to guides and copy them but most guides are saying what top 1% does but does that apply to us? we that do like a 8+/10+ ? i mean how important is mark of the wild buff in +4 or a vers potion in +6 later in the season that is.
I’m used to having played VDH with a lot higher haste. Haste contributes to more soul generation and smoothes out the rotational gameplay of the spec, in tandem, more souls running feed the soul crush means I have more frailty running as well as theoretically higher spikes uptime on multiple targets. I felt personally I was low on haste with my gear so opted for more, regardless of the potential potency of other secondaries
Is it a WA on the right side showing boss abilities? Or is it a separate Addon? Looks cleaner than having them on healthbars with plater like i do . Great gameplay, i just came back to DH and tanking is a joy
If i may ask about the rotation, i still dont understand how you choose when to use spirit bomb vs soul cleave. Both consume souls so u choosing between them and i dont know the process. When u have 4 fragments, always use spirit bomb? When u have 2 fragments, better farm up to 4 and then use it or soul cleave? Or just if u have max fury use soul cleave otherwise spirit bomb? I woud be really glad for explanation about this issue xD
hey nice video thanks for content and commentary, one question about secondary stats, how much haste should i go for? i can go for like 40 percent at my gear but it makes my crit to go down to 21 percent,i don't know how to balance that any suggestions?
Thanks for the reply! I recommend balancing out your stats a bit, keep in mind I have no opportunity to really pick and chose as my VDH wasn’t geared here. Other than my crafted weapon I don’t have optimal gear at 616 item level and non ideal tertiaries. Personally I think going for a mix of crit/haste has always felt best to me personally, versatility has fine value. Focus on item level and main stat (agility) before even considering this prioritization. If you can afford to get rings/neck with crit haste, your game play will be a lot smoother; versatility will have higher value if you’re making mistakes and have lower spikes uptime in my experience. I’m not a VDH theorycrafter so take this with a grain of salt, but I have played VDH to title and well beyond. I would also recommend checking out the wowhead guide it’s very good for an explanation on why haste and crit in particular are very strong, as well as how mastery has been affected with the recent buff to it.
620 FS VDH capped on ilvl at the moment due to being scared of bricking others keys. I have ran every dungeon on +2 - +7. Should I just take the leap and see what happens?
definitely. tanking is all about confidence, learn what pulls you struggle with, and go next level. I wouldn't over practice any level, it's better to fail a level up and learn than to be stuck the level below, I throw myself into as high as possible and then regress a little bit. this way I can calibrate to what my LIMIT is as opposed to what I'm scared of. good luck, just don't over think it - trust your self and if you die don't be hard on yourself, go next!

Maybe one day the return… this is my first season in awhile not playing brew off the bat. I hope they make some fixes to our defensives like CB, it feels quite cumbersome to play and not very fun
@@ryersonlive yeah tbh i hit 3k on the brewmaster and then swapped prot paladin. gameplay wise brew is more fun but prot paladin makes the hard moments less stressful which i prefer if pushing
shouldn't be a problem if you're geared. if you're committing everything because of aggeo either you're not gathering properly, or your dps aren't respecting the gather
so you are telling me this thing is doable with 616 ilvl tanking, this only means 99% of the wow community sucks balls. =) I thought it was 70sh%, greatt...
I think it's more the mindset that people should respect gameplay more than gear. You can do a lot in this game with less gear, and I don't think it should ever be an excuse for players! get out there, practice, and gameplay>gear
gigachad gameplay with detailed commentary , i dont play tank but this was entertaining to watch . big hats down to you for going vdh
