This scene is very touching, Flik said "by the name of my blade,i will protect Lady Teresa". the name of Flik's sword is Odessa. Flik came from warrior village and a boy name his sword based on his lover. (as the blade of Hex 'tengaar'
I have to say, I really like Seed and Culgan as supporting antagonists. They seem like good guys who just have their own reasons for being on the other side of this war. There are good and bad people on both sides of the conflict. It is part of what makes Suikoden such a great series to me.
If you look at the fan made map of the Suikoden world, there is still an entire continent that no game has taken place on. It also mentions that after 2, Flik and Viktor went on to fight another war called the Higheast Rebellion. There's still a lot for this series to go to. Not to mention that there are still so many unanswered questions and undiscovered runes.
...wow...just...wow...The story is so freaking intense. The one thing I love is when characters are not purely static. And so many of the ones here are not like they first seem! This is so great! :D
Okay, this is absolutely THE only "Let's play..." -video series I've ever enjoyed. (Almost all the others annoy me :D) Your voice has character and I love how you put major effort into the dialogue. Great work! ....And this is a brilliant game!
Most fight, but the destiny of some lie in helping you in other areas. Like Yuzu - helping take care of animals/livestock for your armies well being. They wanted to show it takes more than just fighters to win a war.
Culgan and Seed are really likeable villains (or antagonist, would perhaps be more accurate) , because they are truly just fighting for their own beliefs, as opposed to just mindless "evil, conquer the world" mindset. Suikoden 5 had a very similar villain, which I would not spoil.
Janne's actual nature is a complete mystery, but there are some strange hints through the games. For example, in Suikoden 3you eventually get the option to control a little dog to move around the main "castle", allowing you to get interesting reactions/dialogues from some characters isf you talk to them. If you talk to Jeanne while using the dog, she asks him not to tell anyone how she really looks like...implying animals may be able to see through whatever illusions she uses on herself.
You know, while I would say the entirety of Jowy's betrayal was a bit cliche (though still emotional), considering this game came out 1998 and has such an amazing story, I'm willing to bet it was one of the games that set it into cliche, cliche is not bad and a game with this good of a story putting it in counts for something.
Haha ok i did not see the whole Culgan and Seed thing coming. Who would have thought they wanted to see the world at peace. Especially Seed!! I thought he was a "the only way to resolve something is to fight to the death" kind of person.
Jeez, I gotta figure Jowy's emotions are probably raging inside of him. I feel like he just wishes he could be with Riou but can't since they're on opposing sides now. Also I'm surprised he didn't react more to the massive amount of feels Pilika expressed. Poor, poor Jowy.
Jeanne must have a true rune. There's no other way for her to be in all the others, pretty much. And unchanged. But you never really get to use her, so it's hard to know. Does anyone know?
I love what Jowy did. He made a decision and stuck by it.........the only thing I didnt like was not having the Black Blade Rune and Unite attack through the whole game.........you could have made that up with Tir, Lucahjin, but all well
Adrian Padilla Disagree. I hate Jowy he is a weak and a bad person in my opinion. Not interested if he has his reasons for acting this way. He is a traitor and sell his friends, that's a thing that has not to be done even if one is desperate.
Traitor is in the eye of the beholder. Weak is taking the easy way out.....Jowy is alot of things, weak is not one of them. Doing what you think is right and sticking to it takes strength
Hey man, all I care about is the fact is that she is still great enough to put out these videos even when the general quality isn't that great. That's all we should all really care about, amiright? :3
Letting a fight go means that the levels of the monsters you are facing are lower than yours and can get away anytime. Running away usually means the enemy is around or higher than your level, and it can fail. Unless you have Stallion in your party, I think it's guaranteed.
4 was actually the 2nd Suikoden game I played I believe. I played 1 first and then I think 4 was released a few years after that and I picked it up, The sailing was slow, I remember. Ha ha. But I thought the navel battles were neat! Definitely something different (And something Suikoden 5 kind of continued with). 4's true rune was especially well developed and TED. Ted is the best imo.
While fixing the sheep things, Did you fix the two spinach seeds thing as well? I shouldn't care but OCD powers keep taking me over, having a great time watching this series!
Like I said Lucah, we have theories based off of her investigations and batchscenes. In Suikoden 3 when you talk to her as the dog, she says something like" you can see my true form? tehehe don't tell anyone now, okay?" So the most popular theory is the charm rune makes her look young and sexy. Since KOnami said she specifically doesn't have a tTrue rune..she must have some way to keep herself alive such as magic or a rune made to keep her alive or something.
Hmm... I've never seen this fan made map, actually. But I sure would like to see Flik and Viktor go on more adventures :) It'd be cool to actually see Viktor hand off the Star Dragon Sword to its new owner as well. There are SO many unanswered questions. As 4 and 5 happen before and inbetween the other games, 3 is technically the end...? And it leaves us with so many questions... and unsolved riddles...I for one would LOVE to see a new game come out. Suikoden's world is amazing.
Glad to see someone else saw that connection! Though I will admit, Jowy's sudden turn to a bad guy was a much bigger shocker, it happened out of nowhere and I never thought he could do something like outright murder Annabelle.
Also, wouldn't it be good to start trading now, for easier recruitment of a certain 108 star later? You can try going to the Kobold Village and buy everytime there is an ancient scroll and sell it at Forest Village for shit tons of potch. You can also buy crystal balls from Forest Village and South Window and sell them at Kobold Village for a decent amount of cash.
It's two very different things to hear a 3rd party talk about the atrocities committed by the prince and to see an army waiting at your door step with a highland representative saying sign this or these guys behind me will decimate your town.
It's just sad that character mysteries and the remaining True runes would be forever open ended..Well I guess we should be happy we managed to find out about 18 of the True runes. 4 wasn't a bad story and it felt like a Suikoden game later on but the 4 party battle system and the naval battles coupled with the slow sailing..just kind of made it stand out as something sub par to the other games. Although 4's True rune is the most fleshed out True rune with great development..and 4 has TED
Suikoden 1, 1st RPG I ever played, still upsets me when Gremio dies! was worse when I didn't know you could res the guy! But Suikoden games are just awesome, and despite it's age I love the graphics, something classic and imaginative about it.
Rowd is like Krager he always escapes because the heroes have more important things to do even though their life would be so much easier if they just stamped him like a bug early on.
No worries then, keep up the great Lets play! And be sure to investigate Jean, it will make your viewers psyched to figure out who she is. I'm surprised you didn't mention that she's in every Suikoden as a young sexy rune mistress but she doesn't have a true rune. I hope you mention how Viki blinks through time to all the games.
It's called 'following orders'. Military history abounds with examples. The Charge of the Light Brigade, for example. Or the horrors of charges across no-man's land into the machine-guns in WWI.
Even though Jowy may be planning something bad, at least he spared us from the pain, and offered us to leave. You have to at least credit him for that.
I actually noticed this problem on Josh Jepson's newest Mario Galaxy episode which was posted today. It was decent overall but a little like what you're mentioning here, it may be youtube.
I think I figured out why so many 90's JRPG have such a problem integrating story into gameplay, particularly magic. In a lot of those JRPG's, the ability to cast spells is not a part of the character, rather like an equipable quality. As such, the story doesn't take such into account, which is why there are situations where you ask yourself "Why can't I just nuke them all with such and such." Same for characters that don't have to be with you for the parts of the story.
Suikoden 1's story is pretty solid, and then Suikoden 2 improves on it. All of the games are really well told in my opinion. Gameplay just varies a little. The battle system of Suiko 2 is more in depth than 1 say... As in one you can just equip your party with killer runes and force your way through everything. In Suiko 2 you get more rune slots and can mess around more with the different runes and magic of the game. In 1... you can't do that as much.
Konami specifically said Jeanne doesn't have a True rune. Viki doesn't either because there are multiple blinking runes in a single game and we're taught that every rune in the game is either man made or a lesser rune born from a True rune. So if there's more than one blinking rune it can't be a True rune.
I would say for the cutting-out-battles-thing: If you're doing nothing but letting them go and running away, I think it should be cut out, but if you're doing something in the battle (Perhaps apart from Luc one-shotting them all. xD) It could be left in. Ya know, lawlawlawl. Fun series, and I rike it. :3
I'm seeing some familiar plot elements and I believe I see Jowy's intentions. Boy I love playing Sherlock but it does take a bit of feels out of it. Also, Nina showing up Rowd like that. Dat was pretty BA.
Konami said she doesn't have a true rune, but I like the fan theory that she IS a true rune. If they can be swords and monsters then why can't they be people? I would assume her to be the rune of lust, or something along those lines.
A couple questions: First, I don't think the recipe in the Kobold Village was there when you first walked in. Did you ever buy it? The other question is, are you going to show everyone the fishing game with Yam Koo, so they can get the necessary seafood for the recipes?
I was wondering, you said you recruit more beasts besides shiro. I don't remember if you said you use any of them. I'm really loving Shiro so I kinda wanna see what other beasts they put in the game
Weird thing is I couldn't tell you anything about Suikoden 1 even though I played it to the end. I can't figure out how come it didn't make an impression on me at all because if it was as good as this I'm not sure what's wrong with me O.o
Couldn't say, they practically gave up on the series-_-. Though the popular theory is that she's really an old woman who is using magic(or the charm rune) to look young. There are all kinds of creatures in Suikoden so she may have an incredible lifespan. This theory is base doff of all the detective work and bath scenes in all the games. Not to mention Kuroku's dog walk from Suikoden 3. regular elemental runes are offspring of true runes. There are multiple blinking runes in the games.
It's starting to get really hard to read the comments since I keep seeing people guess at things or wish for things, and I know how the game turns out :/ It's really hard for me to either resist saying anything or say just enough without hitting epic spoiler territory.
It's YT's fault. I just saw it on 5 videos in a row that weren't Lucah's, and lots of others have been reporting it on Twitter. Hopefully they'll fix it soon instead of derping around like they usually do...
23:00 did not see that coming :o also, can you tell if jowy is AT THE MOMENT a star of destiny? dont tell me if hes going to join or not... thats too spoilerish

Shin: "I'll go clear the way!"
Walk five meters, get attacked by a monster. Good job Shin.
...wow...just...wow...The story is so freaking intense. The one thing I love is when characters are not purely static. And so many of the ones here are not like they first seem! This is so great! :D

I agree me too.😄
Ikr
"This time I'm sending you to the execution grounds."
Because that worked SO WELL the last time you tried it, Rowd >_>

I usually do, there were just SO many let go's that I didn't want the audio to be so cut up. I'm usually not accosted so badly by enemies!
Luc is amazing.
I swear, as far as my day to day schedule goes these videos are what I look forward to the most, I hope you keep making them.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I'm glad you're LPing this game lucahjin.
Janne's actual nature is a complete mystery, but there are some strange hints through the games.

TH-cam has changed it's encoding and this is happening on many peoples videos. Sorry. I hope they get it worked out!
What I meant was, she'd hopefully have some ideas at the castle.
This is the reason why I love this game all the feels thanks for the good times
Haha ok i did not see the whole Culgan and Seed thing coming. Who would have thought they wanted to see the world at peace. Especially Seed!! I thought he was a "the only way to resolve something is to fight to the death" kind of person.
The story in this game is very sad, and at the same time awesome. I love it!
Jeane is very interesting. She appears in every Suikoden game I believe, even though the timelines are pretty far apart.
I DID fix the spinach thing!

Totally agree - complex antagonists are the best!
BTW Lucah, it would be awesome if you LP Suiko 5 some time in the future...
Yugiri And III and IV
Pretty much, though 2 is just a little more improved.
Hey man, all I care about is the fact is that she is still great enough to put out these videos even when the general quality isn't that great. That's all we should all really care about, amiright? :3
I love your videos Lucah! Can't wait for the next episode!
Letting a fight go means that the levels of the monsters you are facing are lower than yours and can get away anytime. Running away usually means the enemy is around or higher than your level, and it can fail. Unless you have Stallion in your party, I think it's guaranteed.
This is getting really interesting! Can't wait to see what's next!
Omahgawd, perfect timing, just as I get on, at the top of my homepage, a Suikoden II video :D
Oh man, Jowy is such a great character. I have a feeling I know what he's going to do. But... Then again, this game is so unpredictable :)
Damn, this was a really good episode! Keep it up!
4 was actually the 2nd Suikoden game I played I believe. I played 1 first and then I think 4 was released a few years after that and I picked it up, The sailing was slow, I remember. Ha ha. All of the feelings this episode

I'll just sit here and cry.
I think the Highland Army needs to learn, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result...is insanity.
It's called 'following orders'. Military history abounds with examples. The Charge of the Light Brigade, for example. Or the horrors of charges across no-man's land into the machine-guns in WWI.
Is Jowy pulling off a Riku complex? you know the rival working fir the enemy only to betray the enemy and defeat him/her/it.
Everyone with a True Rune is pretty powerful. I mean Riou's bright shield rune is way OP too.
Even though Jowy may be planning something bad, at least he spared us from the pain, and offered us to leave. You have to at least credit him for that.

Some of the Kobolds look like Sandsrew!
If my mayor was half as amazing as Lady Teresa, I would gladly give my life to save her too. Such an awesome character!
Suikoden 1's story is pretty solid, and then Suikoden 2 improves on it. All of the games are really well told in my opinion. Gameplay just varies a little. OH MY LORD.
My feels.
Is Luc this strong through out the whole game?! Like ohmygosh!

i have to say that Riou and Jowey are my fav characters in this game!^^
I literally just spent an hour trying to get out of the maze.

I was wondering, you said you recruit more beasts besides shiro. I don't remember if you said you use any of them. I'm really loving Shiro so I kinda wanna see what other beasts they put in the game
Oh man... the feels are strong with this one :c

What's the difference between running away and letting go in a fight?
Ohh, i wouldn't know I have never played the game before but i'm loving this. :D
I like this Jowy seems like a total badass
Has anyone noticed that Lucah sometimes goes into Nanami voice randomly? I don't know, I just hear Nanami sometimes!
Couldn't say, they practically gave up on the series-_-. Though the popular theory is that she's really an old woman who is using magic(or the charm rune) to look young. Does Victor still have the double beat rune?
I hope she survived, she is so cute.
Hurray, new Suikoden!
Very excited for whats coming up :3
"whaoooooa!" is the best dialogue
Oh... in that case, you can go now Richmond.
I Think its good 720p is all that is needed and you do a great job i know youtube is a bit pixel laggy now.
Miss dialogue?! What're you talking about? Everything Shiro says is worth quoting!
Best Lp you have ever done Lucah! :D
It's YT's fault. I just saw it on 5 videos in a row that weren't Lucah's, and lots of others have been reporting it on Twitter. Hopefully they'll fix it soon instead of derping around like they usually do...
And again I say, Jowy why, why Jowy, why, why, why?!
+MagicTDS5 I was so upset at Jowy on my first play through XD.
He has his own view..
23:00 did not see that coming :o
also, can you tell if jowy is AT THE MOMENT a star of destiny? dont tell me if hes going to join or not... thats too spoilerish
Jeanne can be in your party in Suikoden IV and V.
Slim Kirby's been having similar problems.
If most (if not all) of the stars of destiny know where victory castle is why doesn't the highland army just invade it with all four armies?
Yeah!
does anyone know where i can find this game
Does nobody know the title of the ending song lucahjin used for this LP???
Sebastian Brinkmann a vocal cover of reminisence, its in many games, but in this one i believe it appeared at the jumping into the waterfall. There are to many people who keep asking its name, but if they went back to the first episode, the comments there give the name
So does Suikoden 1 have this good of a plot? If so, I need to get it.
Yuzu is super adorable
It'll be interesting to see what Jowy is ultimately up to, and Culgan and Seed just got more interesting... :)
Oh man, Pilika... :(
The feels! :A:
This game brings up one of my major pet peeves, what's the point of oaths and treaties if the bad guys are just going to ignore them I mean surely with the existence of magic there should be some repercussion of breaking a major treaty or allowing children in your charge to be slaughtered, it really pisses me off.
I really want to watch these, but they just make me want to go replay Suikoden II myself. If only it was in PSN.
