I know this battle is hard... But there is no point in making it even harder... Luc is a magic unit, you send him in to do close combat? There were so many times where the archer units could have had a shot, without being at risk themselves... GAAAAAAAH!
Jeez I've never seen the Greenhill battle drag out for that long before, guess Yubler was making you pay Eightfold for skipping his debut. Also nice party :D.
Man, watching you do these battles is hard to watch sometimes, no offense. You weren't attacking anyone for like five turns when you could have been shooting arrows at footmen and they couldn't have fought back because you're too far away for them to attack you back. Also, you sent Luc into some sword combat by moving him directly near a footman unit when you could have been using magic from far away and they wouldn't have been able to fight back. I know this is extremely old and it doesn't matter anymore, but it's so frustrating to watch lol. Still love the play through though.
+Haxa So much pain, I really wish she was better at these. I almost bought the game just so that I could play these major battles myself to see how hard they really are, but then I saw that game is like $200 on ebay D:
> Frustrating mistakes in this battle and others, but still a very good LP. That's how it is with the best Let's Players. People who are just good at the games are boring to watch, people who are just good at commentary are fun but sometimes frustrating to watch, and people who are good at both don't exist or are in other careers. So the second type is all we've got, generally. It's a good enough type. But it's not the best imaginable. Oh well.
Oh thank you for not skipping the Yuber fight! Yuber is so cool! :) I wish Suikoden kept developing him as a character after Suikoden III. Especially the stuff around him and Pesmerga.
Luca you gotta make better use of your ranged people, they can attack from a distance so the melee peeps won't hit them, you don't have to move them in.
By the way Lucah, it's the weapon that the unit uses that determines the advantage in the major battles, even if Kasumi's unit is on horse, it's still an archer unit so you should never attack at close range (they lose effectiveness). A real cavalry unit uses spears. ^^
I had a lot of trouble with Yuber too. Two units went down, I had used all my heals, and Kiba had two swords in him. He kept healing after Luc got one sword in him. I got lucky and finished him off with lightning.
You know what the problem with the major battles I noticed? When you see a unit lose one or two unit, it means absolutely nothing. What Konami should have done is take note of how many of those few soldiers drop, and once enough of them falls, it counts as having taken a sword's worth of damage. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Fire Emblem this ain't.
Well, I guess that battle made up for how quickly the major battle against Luca Blight was. Yuber was so pissed off that you didn't allow him to make his grand appearance in that battle :P
Battle strategy 101 here. Horse archers are excelent for their mobility and range combined. Use it to your advantage. (Note: Ive never played this game, so I dont know if basic video game battle strategy applies here.)
You probably should have realized that none of the highland soldiers move, so you can safely attack them from a distance after taking out the green soldiers. That would have kept you relatively safe for the whole thing, except for the physical units, which actually have to go into battle. A good strategy would be to wait for the opponent to attack, and then if hit, you can get out of the way.
Actually it comes out on the 12th, but a lot of people got it early either because of store selling it as soon as they received it, or through early shipping.
Luc is a magic user and instead of using his magic to attack from distance, you have him do a charge attack.......do you not know how these battles work???????
hey lucah, whydwon`t you use the rock-paper-scissors trick from in major battles from suikoden 1? in case you didn`t know: charge beats bow bow beats magic magic beats charge
Hey Lucahjin, you once asked if we knew anything about the cook off, well as far as I know it can happen every time you leave and enter HQ, at this point I have beaten and one the cook off side quest.
Given the archer and mage units on your team, and the fact that the Highland units (except the Karaya and Lucia) never moved from their positions, the safest (but slower) option would have been to hold back all infantry and set up your ranged units to just snipe the Highland units till they fall...
To clarify to people coming across this LP. 1: There is no Cavalry/Infantry/Archery unit triangle in Suiko 2 like there is in 1 4 and 5, units have attack and defense stats, that's it. Combat is two rolls, one to see if you "hit" and one to see if the enemy "hits." Hits are determined by (Attacking Unit Atk +4 - Enemy Unit Def) >= (Random # from 0-20). This means that a unit with 1 Atk can still kill Luca Blight, they're just working with a 5% chance to score a hit on a unit that takes 3 hits to kill. Kasumi's unit gives a vague approximation based on these dice rolls whenever she is about to attack. 2: The fighting where a single unit drops is just placebo to make the combat look like something is happening on turns when both units miss, there isn't a hidden "hp" stat for units like there are in comparable War games like the Advanced Wars series. 3: Archer and Rune Magician units can go into melee mode and just swing swords. This is the equivalent of charging across the Trenches with Bayonets. Can it work? Yes. Is it a good idea? No. 4: Archers and Rune Magicians do not "run out" of ammo. Their attack command can be used from range infinitely and the damage calculations behave as in 1. Luc's Wind Magic, Jeanne's Lightning Magic, and Mazus' Fire Magic are different attacks that simply "hit" on a 30% chance. Wind has 3 uses, Lightning can "crit" for two swords of damage, and Fire hits in a huge aoe so all of them have diverse uses. 5: Critical causes two swords of damage, but ONLY if the unit actually "hits" on the above calc. Shu is the strongest support unit in the game (providing +3 atk and +1 def and access to Evade and critical) and when paired with Riou's unit (8/9) Riou's 11/10 stat line is just high enough to scrape to a 20% chance to hit with a 30% chance to crit on top of that (Lucah scores this 6% outcome here, which is actually kind of insane) These things combined to make this campaign look hard, but the long and short of it is that none of Lucah's units are hitting Yuber or Lucia on a very high chance. Ridley is in the best position to do real damage with his base 10 Atk stat but without some support units he's liable to be routed by Yuber. It's usually a good idea to clear out the weak fodder units first, but it's important to take stock of the win condition of the map. If the enemy general has an insane stat line you should prepare an appropriate countermeasure. If you saw the Luca Blight campaign you may have noticed his staggering 18/17 stats and realized, there's literally no one in the army that can hit him above a 5% chance, and that's precisely the point of that battle, it's storytelling through mechanics. In cases where you have no good attacking options, save abilities like Fire Spears, Wind and Lightning Runes, or use Adlai's "Invention"(literally a suicide bomb) to blow up your problems. Fire spears hit on a massive 50% chance making Tsai one of the best units in the game. In the endgame you'll want some good problem solving units, some suggestions below: Grand Cavalry (Kiba Klaus Tai Ho). 11/15 Heavy Armored Cavalry with Evade. Kiba and Georg are the only former generals of a major army, as a result their stat lines are the best in the game. Kiba and Klaus as a duo is insane, although having Klaus as a support for Riou is also very strong as he provides Cavalry. Kiba Lorelai Apple is a valid alternative. Supernatural (Luc Pesmerga Chaco). 14/5 Rune Cavalry, this beastly combination has a 25% accuracy or higher on every enemy in the game and can strike from outside the range of archers AND can move 3 squares per turn. It is violently op but it does require both Pesmerga and Chaco (two top tier units). If Pesmerga is used elsewhere Miklotov can fill in. This loadout will break Yuber safely from range and will shred Seed/Culgan/Jowy. Prime Tactics (Georg Shu Pesmerga). 17/9 Cavalry with DOUBLE CRITICAL. Deathblow Georg only needs one strike to win. If Pesmerga is used elsewhere Milkotov can fill in. This is the best answer for General Han. Green Dreams (Teresa Shin Hanna) 9/6 Archers with Critical and Bombard. Teresa's unit is slow and fragile but it doesn't matter, she gets in over Flik because her Bombard ability is just not balanced, it far outrages all other archers and Shin brings along critical hit chance on top of that. Hanna is in for the +2 Atk, Lo Wen or Tai Ho also can fill in here but their units are better placed elsewhere. I also really like having units that are narratively appropriate combos. This unit's primary focus is clearing front line infantry from a distance and acts as a soft counter to Seed's unit. Bowbreakers (Camus Humphrey Lo Wen). 11/10 Heavy Armor Cavalry with Melee. Fast, durable, and has an increased chance to hit Archer and Rune Soldier units. This will beat Sasarai and Culgan without fail. Stronger, Faster, Better, Than You (Mazus Shu Pesmerga). 15/7 Rune Cavalry with Fire Magic Critical and Evasion. Luc gets lots of showtime since he joins early, but Mazus is just not balanced. His fire magic can hit ALL targets in the AOE at a 50% chance. Mazus has cavalry status by default so if Shu and Pesmerga are used elsewhere support Mazus with Jeanne for Lightning Magic and Yam Koo or Nanami for stats Fire Spears (Flik Tsai Apple). 9/9 Archer Cavalry with Evade and Fire Spears. Flik is power creeped out by the endgame, but as a mounted archer he's got superior mobility and range. The Fire Spears are good all the way through the game. Quixotic (Max Annallee Tuta). Annallee is not balanced. Encourage causes all units adjacent to this one to act again if they've already taken their turn. In spite of everything above, Annallee has by FAR the most action economy of every other unit in the army. She doesn't need a strong unit to be in, she just needs to be close enough to give Luc Mazus Teresa and Flik extra turns. Tuta backs up the unit by providing Heal Self in case your bard start getting shot for some reason. Max gets this company leader spot because he's a crazy man who just wants to go for one last charge, also i use cavalry for everything. Riou. 8/9 Infantry with Bright Shield. If he needs a cavalry assist pair him with Klaus/Camus/Miklotov for movement. Otherwise he doesn't need any support units if the rest of his army is doing their jobs. I believe you get a total of 12 units in the endgame, but you only need these to beat everything.
for what??? she didnt use it at the Lightning magic from Jeane in Kasumis party all it went to waste! And normal attack from Luc(wich is magic attack)its not dispensable!
Just attack with ranged unit? Like why wait, the foot unit couldn’t attack you anyway from afar, why waste the turn like that omg I love you but sometimes ughhhhh
You know these battle scenes remind me of Fire Emblem gameplay. So I could not help but question why Lucah didn't use her Ranged units on their melee units, because honestly, how is a Melee unit going to counter a Ranged unit that can also attack at Melee range? I saw so many moments where she could have been attacking the Melee units at the castle. It's highly possible I don't understand all the mechanics of this... but still, those things seemed obvious to me.
luca you had some criticals on riu you could have used against yuber in your runes so when you said there was nothing you could do i was screaming "you have a ton of abilities on your guys that you havent used!" p.s. i have never played this game before so if crit is passive i am unaware of that
I think Yuber might've been a 3-sword unit so that was a good time for a crit :) Using some different characters could've made it a little easier, all's well... as long as there wasn't any permadeath Georg time!
Man, a third post like this, I must seem like a Jerk, but really all i want is Lucah to crush her enemies =P. I went and looked up the data. Melee groups can only counter other melee groups. Any unit that can use a two space attacks(Archer/Mage), can only be countered by the same(Archer/Mage), however, if they are in melee range, then a melee unit can counter. This means that on every moment you stated, Lucah could have attacked with no repercussions. But she didn't.. no idea why...
It does, the problem being that even though horse units can move two squares, the archers can only attack from two squares, so even if you wanted to retreat and attack you still would have to stay two squares away, whitch is in a melee unit move and attack range.
If Karen was most requested and I've read the comments at the end of each video.. then how come I completely forgot about her till the moment she said she was requested o-O?... Oh well.
What are you doing luca??? You could have attacked with Kasumi there(11:48)why did you wait? And you did not have to bring Kasumi so close to them she can attack from where she was didnt you saw the attack option???(13:36),and you could have also attacked with Luc at 14:28,why did you waited????You dont need to put long ranged people so close, magic users and bow users can attack from far,Luc could have attacked from where he was(15:35) And with Kasumi you had Lightning magic why didnt you use
Don't worry, sometimes I just comment on random things like games I'm playing, I'm at the forbidden woods in wind waker but have not beaten it yet, the wind affects me in that one room.
Obviously it's not going to be as well-made as Fire Emblem when it comes to strategic battles. No one is saying the strategy battles are amazing, and they only make up a small part of the game.
I know this battle is hard... But there is no point in making it even harder...
Luc is a magic unit, you send him in to do close combat? There were so many times where the archer units could have had a shot, without being at risk themselves...
GAAAAAAAH!
"What's the worst that can happen?"
If those aren't famous last words, nothing are.
Jeez I've never seen the Greenhill battle drag out for that long before, guess Yubler was making you pay Eightfold for skipping his debut. Also nice party :D.
I never noticed but in battle Riou's unit has a little Riou battlign with them
Yea I just noticed that too while watching but wasn't sure if they all looked the same or not but guess it really is a mini
It's easier to notice if you give him Cavalry Ability.
Man, watching you do these battles is hard to watch sometimes, no offense. You weren't attacking anyone for like five turns when you could have been shooting arrows at footmen and they couldn't have fought back because you're too far away for them to attack you back. +Haxa So much pain, I really wish she was better at these. I almost bought the game just so that I could play these major battles myself to see how hard they really are, but then I saw that game is like $200 on ebay D:
Haxa My thoughts exactly. Frustrating mistakes in this battle and others, but still a very good LP.
Oh well.
I don't remember the last time I laughed this hard, seeing and hearing the struggle. I laughed to tears lol towards the end, when she almost gives up.
Oh thank you for not skipping the Yuber fight! Yuber is so cool! :) I wish Suikoden kept developing him as a character after Suikoden III. Especially the stuff around him and Pesmerga.

Yeah, Critical and Evade are the two passive skills that have a chance of activanting in a battle.
So much cursing... I love it. I think it would have been hilarious if you lost the major battle just so I could hear a symphony of "fuck" and "shit".
I had a lot of trouble with Yuber too. Two units went down, I had used all my heals, and Kiba had two swords in him. He kept healing after Luc got one sword in him. I got lucky and finished him off with lightning.
Sounds kind of evil but, the struggle you had made this video interesting to watch
Lucah, I think we need to have a talk about ranged units being used from a distance :P
I know this must have been frustrating Lucha, but you were hilarious this episode lol
Mucha Lucha

Well, I guess that battle made up for how quickly the major battle against Luca Blight was. Yuber was so pissed off that you didn't allow him to make his grand appearance in that battle :P
Now THAT was the kind of battle that really reminded me of some my bad experiences while playing fire emblem.
I just like how it was just a castle, but now it's a whole town/city around the castle. Is this a city or something in Suikoden III?
Battle strategy 101 here. Horse archers are excelent for their mobility and range combined. Use it to your advantage. (Note: Ive never played this game, so I dont know if basic video game battle strategy applies here.)

The Loooooooong march on Greenhill.
That speed up was so weird since I'm watching this at 1.5 speed anyway.
Actually it comes out on the 12th, but a lot of people got it early either because of store selling it as soon as they received it, or through early shipping.
Amen to that, also the difference between critical and evade. XD
i was about to beat the final boss of sonic adventure 2 just now but then i saw this
thank you and tyler for showing us this and that awesome game
Luc is a magic user and instead of using his magic to attack from distance, you have him do a charge attack.......do you not know how these battles work???????
I once destroyed Yuber with a critical from Ridley. Best moment of any major battle:)
we all know how clumsy Lucah is, and thats why we watch her vids. I doubt many are here for an advance and detailed walkthrough
Pain
X and Y came out on the 11th in the UK
hey lucah, whydwon`t you use the rock-paper-scissors trick from in major battles from suikoden 1?
in case you didn`t know:

I really wanted to see how fast Lucah could had finished this battle if she had her army well set-up.
Yuber sounds like some kid of root veggie LOL.
There's a couple of teams with lightning rune...use it.
for what???
she didnt use it at the Lightning magic from Jeane in Kasumis party all it went to waste!
And normal attack from Luc(wich is magic attack)its not dispensable!
I knew you would pick General Kiba's Group at the start
Just attack with ranged unit? Like why wait, the foot unit couldn’t attack you anyway from afar, why waste the turn like that omg I love you but sometimes ughhhhh

yea IM SO HAPPY
You've never used Jeane's lightning rune with Kasumi's unit, and Huan's heal as well. Please put Shu with Georg's unit for later war battles
luca you had some criticals on riu you could have used against yuber in your runes so when you said there was nothing you could do i was screaming "you have a ton of abilities on your guys that you havent used!" p.s. i have never played this game before so if crit is passive i am unaware of that
Wait, you had a healer and you didn't use him?
Why?!
My goodness, that battle was so long-winded! :P
Yuber took a while for me to take down last time I played too.. didnt usually take that long for me either.
Im replaying the game as well and im not sure why but i always got lvl 99 glitch heroes like hoi, lc chan, and georg, i hate it to be op
does luc's unit magic succes rate improve if you increase his units attack?
Luc doesn't want to hurt Yuber...
She already did earlier on in the LP :P
Yuber is OP! And yet that only makes him seem awesome to me. :P
I think Yuber might've been a 3-sword unit so that was a good time for a crit :) Using some different characters could've made it a little easier, all's well... as long as there wasn't any permadeath
Georg time!
For a while I thought Lucahjin was in major trouble there.
That battle was hilarious!
Wow I just had some deja vu there. This happened on my LP as well and I ended up losing Riou. So I just showed the other battle to make up for it :)
Is there a new schedule for the Suikoden videos? I thought it was monday - thursday?
Pokemon x is amazing, seventh gym was tough compared to this battle, so I toughened my team up for eighth gym.
Sooooo.... Yuber's stronger than Luca....both of em
Only seven hours till midnight!
How long did this battle take without speeding it up?
that nervous sped up laugh XD hilarious
Yay a new video it is now time to watch it
its the unstoppable force meets the immovable object yuber is a monster lol
teresalooks like jowy
davous123 She actually kinda does, now that I think about it.
Man, a third post like this, I must seem like a Jerk, but really all i want is Lucah to crush her enemies =P. I went and looked up the data. Melee groups can only counter other melee groups. why are you talking about pokemon x on a suikoden video!?
Come on Lucah! Why are your troops always so much weaker?
It does, the problem being that even though horse units can move two squares, the archers can only attack from two squares, so even if you wanted to retreat and attack you still would have to stay two squares away, whitch is in a melee unit move and attack range.
Well, I guess I could watch this before I get Pokémon X and Y...
is the 12th over there?
Man Yuber is a freakin tank.
I meant for Lucah to use Muku again. 'Cause I like Muku.
why do you suck so much at major battles? 😢 *cries
Lucky you, only getting it in the morning :P like 14 hours and thats it begins :)
If Karen was most requested and I've read the comments at the end of each video.. then how come I completely forgot about her till the moment she said she was requested o-O?... Oh well.
Man Lucah you were right, that battle was hard. they almost made that guy and his troops invincible. XD
In stead of Killey can you use bob please
Karen looks like Shantae in her dancing uniform.
