  • Recipe here: www.joyofbakin... Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Snickerdoodles. Snickerdoodles are also called Snipdoodles or Cinnamon Sugar Cookies. Recipes for this cookie started to appear in the late 1800s, and most agree they probably originated in New England and are of either German or Dutch descent. This crinkly topped cookie with its coating of cinnamon sugar is often overlooked. Maybe it is because they are more plain looking than today's creations or maybe it is because they do not use exotic ingredients. But what these old fashioned Snickerdoodles do have is great flavor. While using the most basic of ingredients; butter, sugar, eggs, flour, and ground cinnamon, when you bite into one you will find the edges are wonderfully crisp yet inside the texture is wonderfully soft and chewy with a buttery sweet flavor.

Doubled the recipe and ended up with 4 dozen cookies. I brought it to work and guess what? These were gone in no time. Coworker of mine said this was the best snickerdoodles he’s ever had. Now everyone wants me to bring the same thing this weekend. Thanks, Stephanie. Stay safe.

Love Snickerdoodles! You are right about the salt in the recipe, I made chocolate chip cookies, which I make a lot of the time but forgot and used salted butter, which I normally don't use, then I added the salt called for in the recipe, yecchhhh, it was way too salty! I'm going to have to try your recipe for Snickerdoodles, they look yummy!!!

I met people that didn't know what snickerdoodles were when I bought some at the store and they thought the syllable "snicker" indicated that they have peanuts or almonds and chocolate because of the candy "Snickers". Not so! In fact, they don't even have the same etymology. My research says that snickerdoodles might have been "a corruption of the German word schneckennudel meaning "snail dumpling" after a sweet bun of German origin that is snail shaped." The Snickers candy was named after the Mars family's favorite horse on an equestrian farm that the Mars family owned.

Snickerdoodles do rise during baking, but they do deflate a little after cooling. Not sure why they stuck to the parchment paper; not baked enough, let them cool too long on the baking sheet, or type of parchment.

Looks deeeelish........def goin to do these. 3 things I was wondering about, do you only bake off 1 tray at a time in your fan assisted oven? And this is more general, Self raising flour and Caster sugar....do you ever use them or are they hard to find in USA? I see that raising agents are added to plain flour. So I'm thinking of just using SR Flour in recipes that use All Purpose flour and raising agents but then I'm a bit worried that I wdnt get the actual RISE right.

*Those items are readily available in the USA. A person can easily turn their all purpose flour into self rising flour, when needed. Hope this helps.*

    Hi Stephanie,
Can this dough be made ahead of time? And if so how long do you recommend storing in the refrigerator before baking?. Thank you!

You could store it in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
