I love this song. It’s actually two different songs combined. House Rent Blues and Bourbon, Scotch and Beer. George definitely put his own flair on it. And yes, it is great live. He throws a couple extra lyrics in. Other Thorogood songs to hear: I Drink Alone, The Sky Is Crying (Elmore Leonard cover), Gear Jammer, Get A Haircut, Talk Too Much, Move It On Over(Hank Williams cover), Who Do You Love (Bo Diddley cover), Willie And The Hand Jive (Willie Dixon cover) Born To Be Bad.

    • @tonyacts

Saw him in concert 11/20/82. Great show! Amber, their song "Kids From Philly" is mostly a sax solo.
edit - Thanks to John Lee Hooker (blues artist) for the original House Rent Boogie/One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.

Got to disagree. I love the live versions (and have seen him play it several times, both in arenas and in clubs). But for this tune, the studio version is the best, IMO. First, there is the groove. The groove never stops. Its filthy. And the tone on that guitar! The live versions have showmanship and are fun. But the groove and the tone make this version really special.

The minute he hit the first note the whole place was on their feet and in the isles going nuts. I have told this story so many times but when my daughter was 5 or 6 years old, while driving her to school, I would listen to George on CD. My daughter learned all the words to most of George's music but you haven't seen anything funnier than a 5 year old little girl, dressed in frou-frou dresses and hammering out One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer, facial expressions and all. Wonderful memories!

Watch the LIVE VERSION of this song. He brings onstage the King of Boogie Guitar, Elvin Bishop from TULSA, OK.

Saw him with Brian Setzer Orchestra about 10 years ago. Such a bad ass concert and the crowd erupted when he played this song.

If you guys have paid attention to the fact that I almost never recommend live versions. This one however would have been one that should have been the live version. I saw him live a long time ago and he played forever. Check out "Move It On Over" and "Who Do You Love?".

From his official site April 11: "With great sadness, we must announce the cancellation of our Canadian & U.S. tour dates from April 27, 2023 through May 21, 2023. George has been diagnosed with a very serious medical condition that will require immediate surgery and quite a few weeks of recouperation and healing. You, our fans, mean the world to us, and we know this news is not want you wanted to hear, but rest assured George Thorogood & The Destroyers will be back. We’ll keep you updated as we know more."

Saw George in fl. And he had a guest in the audience. It was Dion the people loved it. He always has a warning about drinking and driving.

I saw George Thorogood years and years ago and yeah, this song definitely had audience involvement - he would call out what you want and you could guess what the audience would shout out. The only down side - well maybe good thing - was that I saw him in a theatre without a bar or it would have definitely been an entirely different evening.

The whole first album is great and worth a listen.
It sounds like they recorded the album LIVE in the studio.
We have to give credit to the Bass player and the Drummer, keeping it tight.

That LP was recorded without a bass player… just lead and rhythm guitars and the drum. Bass was dubbed in later. They’ve recently reissued a version without the bass so you can hear what it sounded like; I prefer the one with the bass, but it’s a fun alternative version.

When it comes to storytelling songs, the only one that tops this is 'Alice's Restaurant'

'Who Do You Love' is one of my favorites

I doubt anyone would react to Alice’s Restaurant. I remember it used to be a staple on WNEW in NYC to play it every Thanksgiving.
What are you in for? Littering. And everyone would move away.

I saw him with 25,000 people- Johnny Winter opened. George is a very cool, confident guy to have Johnny open for him. Most bands wouldn't have wanted to follow Johnny. And I saw George in a bar with 400 people. All good. I still have my black tee shirt with the Destroyers script after 40 years...seriously quality material. Who Do You Love? - You should hit the Doors cover of this old blues tune too. Both awesome. Keep rockin children!

First heard George in 1981 when he opened for the Rolling Stones (Start Me Up Tour). George played killer guitar and was outstanding. My suggestion to listen to next is his "Who Do You Love".

"No hall too small, No bar too far" is his motto. My roommate saw George play a dive bar in Anderson, Alaska. I saw him in Anchorage, where officials told him he had to end the show at midnight. He played until 1:30!
