  • Full video of low power SPL testing to find peak output and efficiency and then a full power burp at peak. I wanted to do some single digit testing, but it needs to be done at a higher power level. Look for that in an upcoming video.

    I was lucky enough to get a demo this weekend of this build. Absolutely amazing!!! The low end was no surprise being a 24" IB, but the mid bass range really blew my mind. I was not expecting that. Great clean install!!!

    I knew it would do a 140, but I thought it would do it at like 30hz AND down, not take all the way till 18hz to hit it. Anyway, this just goes to show that pressure is only half the equation (technically 1/3) when it comes to loudness. The other half is the volume of air moved. An extremely windy 140 is just as impressive as an average or light wind 150, but it's less potentially damaging to the ears and much easier on your car.
    If it were me, I like to assume I'd still want that 50 though. I went to my first audio show and listened to like 6 vehicles that all hit a 50 or better and instantly fell in love. Past 155 started to hurt, though, so I'm good with just a 50.
    EDIT: Oh... I suppose I sent my comment too soon. Good lord....

    Loudest car I ever made was a long time ago with 3 SPL160 Soundstream subs with a Reference 1000 on each one in a 240 hatch and that was 153db at the windshield at 30hz! Thats just nuts for a single sub on that low of power.

      The subwoofers and amplifiers you used to score a 153db, were probably on the much older spl meters, such as linear x, audio control, or b&k. I only mention this as a reference point, because those older spl meters, even when calibrated correctly, showed 3db to 7db higher than the spl meter used in this video=Term Lab spl meter. Again not bashing, just for a reference point. Hope this helps? Have a great day.

      @@BatdogGarage It's a Teramp 5K BASS model running at 2 ohm so 2.5k ...SPL on the windshield was 139 @ 55hz ..which seems to be a huge peak in my cab - sub is mounted in a blowthrough ...I just did another round of measuring this morning and its really really starting to come together with the front stage ... I had the mid bass / midrange xover too high and now that the midrange is set much lower it improved the front stage dramatically .... I found at the end of the 8x12 manual (after it explains how to setup midbass/midrange/tweeter separately in the display settings that the best Dirac tune comes from summing the drivers together is Dirac measurement instead of letting Dirac measure and correct them separately ie midbass/midrange/tweeter (3 way) gets a full sweep assigned in Dirac Calibration as Channel 1/2 - Rear midbass / tweeter (2 way) as Channel 3/4 then the Sub as channel 5.... I did also set the rear channels as suggested (L-R / R-L in the matrix and 20ms delay) haven't really tested enough to hear that rear delay but the front stage is really sounding great and very balanced with the sub (which is also inverted) ...and FYI the sub is taking every bit of the 2.5k without even breaking a sweat ..

    • @BatdogGarage
      @BatdogGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. With the windows closed there’s very little sound outside the car. You’re sitting in the enclosure. When you open a window it essentially becomes a ported/vented enclosure and it’s allowed to breathe and get windy. That’s when people hear it.

    So it looks like it plays up to around 50Hz and then the output starts to drop off rather dramatically.
    I get the same thing in my full size suv. The output starts to roll off above 45Hz.
    Is this due to some type of 1/4 wave cancelation?
    I assume that 24" sub can play those upper frequencies fine and my subs certainly can as well. Its strange.
    What are you using to play the upper bass range? (60Hz to 80Hz) Front mounted sub/mid bass driver?

    Deleted my other comment and couldn't reply back. This is almost weirdly-efficient. I'm not an expert but I have done builds myself year ago. Is this having something to do with the cone using the ground as a backplate? Or maybe it's just this woofers design? Seems wild that it's putting out those number at that hz with such low power.

    • @BatdogGarage
      @BatdogGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s largely due to cone area and efficiency. The sub has a Qts of .7 which means it doesn’t require an air spring/enclosure. It’s designed to operate as you see it with simply front wave/back wave isolation.
      It IS wild. Getting in a complete stealth build with a 24 that’ll get windy blows people away. It will be at the Sundown Show tomorrow.
