    Brother, My son-in-law gave me a different version of the Gerber multi-tool. The Torx wrench's primary use, per the directions, is to move the wire cutter blade to one of the other sides when it becomes dull. Basically, each blade gives you three cutting surfaces. Until you mentioned that it can be used to loosen up the other tools, I would not have thought of that. Thanks for Multi-Tool Monday - I am always on the lookout for each episode...Abe Azar

      Wow! Glad to hear that it held up for so long, it's a keeper.

      I cut a wire hanger with the 600 carbide cutters and they shattered and split. Others have reported the same. I replaced the cutters and only use for thin wire, paper clip sized stuff etc. So far so good.

    I own this and some other from Leatherman and Victorinox.
    But the Legend 800 is by far the best multitool and it is the one I used a lot! It never let me down and I trust this tool completely.
    It looks already very used, also the sheet looks like leather now. All my other tools look like new because I never used them.
    The Legend is an incredible piece!

      That is a great testimonial to the quality of this multitool. I have heard the same type of account from many longterm users about this multitool, this is why I wanted to show it for the younger generation :]

    My favorite Gerber, then the MP700 and the Diesel.
    They are worth trying to know the best that the brand has to offer IMO

    have two of these, thought I lost the first one, so bought another off ebay. Even back in the day they were kinda of spendy, but try not to pay retail for much of anything if I can help it and did not either of the ones I have. You pretty much nailed it on the head about everything I have thought or said about it. Bought them for the scissors, replaceable blade saw, and the carbide cutters. The cutters will cut some very tough wire. cousin had some wire he got of the job, some multi strand stuff used for cable work, that he was impressed with, and was even more impressed when the cutter cut through it like butter.
    Also bought it for the bit kit that fits over the big phillips bit, but never have ended up getting one of them yet. Would like you much prefer a regular knife blade, a can opener, and an awl. All the things you covered, and as I said i have lamented about in the past. Yet I still prefer to carry one. Nice review and spot on.

    The can opener tool is actually combined with the medium size flathead directly next to the file

    I bought one when first launched. Had it for 5 years then sent it back under warranty. It was replaced and not repaired. The rubber inserts were very poor quality! The initial problem I had after 5 years occurred the second day I received the replacement. The spring clip retaining the saw blade snapped off. Then the scissor spring snapped. The whole feel of the tool was different. I ended up buying a leatherman charge. I've owned many multi tools and the charge is the best by far! I've just broken mine though after 10 years and I'm sending it back. Hope it's repaired and not replaced.

    And the leatherman Serge has a hacksaw too. It's interchangeable with the file. There is another Gerber 600 knifeless that has a carbide hacksaw that will cut through anything except skin, and flesh.

    I've had one of these for maybe 15 years.
    I've snapped the knife blade in half simply by cutting kindling and tapping down on the tip of the blade with a piece of wood, the blade couldn't handle the slight twist resulting from following the grain of the log i cut kindling from.
    All the flat screwdrivers are split or chipped.
    The scissors are garbage. Yes, they're sharp and hard, but they're small, and thick where they shouldn't be: It can cut stiff material - but often you won't reach farther into the material than one cut. When possible you'll have to manually bend the material away from the annoying flat surface behind the cutting edge for each tiny cut you make. They're thin, sharp and uncomfortable on the handle where your thumb pushes down. The spring is just a piece of round steel wire, which therefore occasionally will slide off to the side of the moving half of the scissors, but that's not as annoying as that the spring will inevitably break after not much use. The rivet holding the halves together also soon causes slack. Fiskars know how to make real scissors, I doubt they actually make multitool scissors. Getting to use the owner company's logo on two tiny pieces of sheet metal in a multitool doesn't mean much.
    The steel in the tools generally seems to be too hard and brittle.
    Exchangeable tungsten carbide cutters for the pliers are nice. Until the cutters crack and explode when you're trying to cut a common nail and you don't carry extra cutters.
    The rubber inserts (more like thin stickers) on the handles will deteriorate and fall off, especially if you actually use the tool and get oils and stuff on it.
    The sheath is pointless. It's just a cheap and flimsy nylon pocket for the tool. There's no room for accessories like extra blades or bits. I got the Legend as a gift and didn't read up on it, so I didn't even know I could buy and mount a bit holder and use 1/4" bits - the sheath doesn't give you any clues that the Legend actually is expandable. Also the Legend doesn't come with a pocket clip.
    No can opener. I still have to bring my Swiss Champ for camping.
    Those are the negatives, as far as I'm concerned.
    Fortunately, the Legend is user serviceable, with those torx screws. Unfortunately, Gerber doesn't sell or ship spare parts. I have to send the whole tool across the Atlantic for repair or replacement. So I've ordered a Leatherman Charge+ G10 to keep me going while the Legend is away... :) Too bad Leatherman are retards and still haven't discovered how to put a spring in their pliers, and that not even Americans(?) use imperial sized hex/allen/insex bits like the few included ones, et c.
    I was thinking of ordering a Leatherman Surge (I've come to like interchangeable saw blades), but that's even heavier than the Legend, and if I'm going to change the weight of my multitool it's going to be downwards.
    Regarding the shortness of the Legend's phillips driver and the available space, I don't suppose this could be to make it possible to fold the driver with a bit holder mounted?

    I wish they never discontinued the MP700 (Smaller version of this) it's the same thing but smaller and less weight. The MP800 is pretty much a vastly upgraded Suspension. I still prefer the MP600 though, you get the same scissors, drivers, file, and saw but on the OTF style body.
    The REMGRIT saw that's included with the Gerbers is trash. I can't believe you actually liked it. I highly recommend going to Home Depot and getting a pack of "U Shape" Saws. Not only will you have more styles but they'll be higher quality.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you mean the remgrit doesn't cut fast or that it will wear out fast? I did notice it took a long time to get through the nail. Yeah I've heard of the smaller discontinued one, the Urban Legend, it sounds very interesting!

    • @Icypotato
      @Icypotato 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WeAllJuggleKnives It's both. It wears extremely fast and cuts poorly. Total crap, get some better ones from Home Depot. They sell them in packs with wood, metal, and all purpose. So you get more variety.

    I actually have one of these... somewhere. Haven't seen it in years! Used it as my standard carry tool until I purchased my first Super Tool 300 (which is still my favorite btw).

    The edge on mine didn’t look like that new. And the sheath fits perfectly. Pretty good tool. Love the wire cutters they can be turned twice more the inserts there can be. And didn’t like the saw I put another blade. And I wished it had an eyeglass screw driver.

    Victorinox Swiss Tools have metal saws on their files. All their tools with a file have a metal saw, actually.

    Had one for about 12 years and lost it somewhere.... Really miss it. I got one of the new center drives but the quality is crap, and the new cutters are brittle.

  • @speedindeemin
    @speedindeemin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The terrible edges seem to be an issue with these newer Gerber tools. I've seen that the edges on the Center Drive blades were not complete or even just about UNfinished. Main reason I haven't jumped the gun on the new tools, well also the fact that the Center Drive doesn't have a good tool selection for my tastes. The centered bit driver just wasn't enough of a deal for me to get it, I'm going to end up getting another one their MP600s, specifically #47550. I already own #07564, but I don't like the combo edge blade, hard to sharpen. I'll have a plain edge I can beat the shit out of without care instead of doing that to my Buck Vantage! Nice video, like always. Multitool Mondays are my favorite.

  • @05generic
    @05generic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apparently the Center Drive came down a bit as it is now ~ $4 less then the Legend, and IMO, a better MT. And it has a reamer. I agree that a reamer is a good thing to have as it's like having a pocket friendly drill ready to go when needed.

    Say Heah Is, When a Gerber Multi Tool saved a soldiers LIFE, By riccochetting a bulket off of it. I became a Gerber Man. I have several even some that have the metal tool release instead of the black plastic. Infact I have a vintage Gerbrr 600 Multi Tool in the pouch on the Spec Ops Sheath I have for one of my Fav's Modde Rodent 6. A 6"+ Survival Knife I had thinned down and the top guard taken off. Now it L@@Ks like a Ratmandu on steroids. I usually neck carry my newer version Mora 510 when I use my Modde Rodent 6. I also team it with my Wicked Tough Saw and my Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor Hatchet. Yeah, most definitely I use this set and I trust my life on it when I solo scout.,,.p

    Hey I seen this one knife awhile ago and I cannot remember the name or anything like that. It's sort of a triangle shape and you push a circle in the middle of the frame and the frame pops apart exposing the blade and you flick it and it goes out then let go of the button and the frame snaps back and locks the blade in. If you could tell me the name of this knife that'd be awesome
