This is a good start but you will need lots of dense shielding to stop the radiation from penetrating through the walls of your home. The plastic and duct tape will just keep the fallout from coming inside your shelter area.
A great tip for the bucket. You can also precut Visqueen for each window and door in your home and label each piece for faster deployment.
You forgot the cat litter for your toilet 🚻. The litter will keep down the odor of pee and poop better then the spray.
Great idea. I was thinking about the odor tabs you can get for RV toilets. Never thought about cat litter.
Keep your pee completely separate.
Just gonna suggest this. Glad someone already did. Stay safe!
The odour is a sign of bacteria. Dehydrated solids (poop) are less likely to breed bacteria.
So kitty litter has that going for it.
Hey everyone I googled pet protection and found out dogs and cats can take iodine but it's specific to weight. Check it out! My fur babies will be with me.
Was actually thinking about this as well. We have a 90 lb pup and enough food for him to last a couple of months. But of course he would still need to do his business. I often wonder where he would go because a contaminated backyard with fallout is no longer an option if the house is sealed up.
For plastic you can use dollar store shower curtains. Single women or elderly need something easy to handle.
That's a great tip. Thanks.
You can use shower curtain as well
Thanks very much for taking the time to make this, it was very helpfull. I appreciate your dedication to help us all :) watching from Scotland
You're very welcome!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Great tips! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I’d add you want your house to be dust tight. Not air tight. The threat of radioactive gasses is pretty low. It’s large and small pieces of dust your worried about. So chimneys vents etc. if you go air tight you’ll suffocate
If what you’re doing makes you feel better then God bless you. I’ve had my whole life lived under the threat of nuclear war. My fifth grade teacher built a fallout shelter in her backyard underground. No perhaps you don’t live in an area that would have a direct impact nearby and you’re only dealing with radiation. If that’s the case then you have a better chance than most Americans. I live in a small city that has an Air Force Base and while we are not on the prime target list we could expect to be hit because we also have Raytheon nearby. You need to realize that if you are within 20 miles of a 10 meg missile all of your electrics are going to go out. Your car battery, your solar batteries…everything…. All of the food in your garden that you’re growing cannot be eaten. What you have is appropriate in the event of a nuclear meltdown situation but I hate to tell you, it’s not going to help you in a nuclear blast.
Same here, lived in the shadow of the bomb all my life. I won't lift a finger to prep, there's no way I want to survive, I've watched Threads and I'll just go thanks .
Wenn all is sealed, what will you breathe? One adult needs 12.5 cubic metres per day. You'll definitely want some kind of air filtration inside your sealed up shelter.
I like the foam around the top of the bucket! when I was little we lived in the country and different "buckets " were used at night. I remember them all cutting into me. lol
Ouch. Pool noodles work great too, but a little big to store inside the bucket.
We used milk jugs with the top cut off for the middle of the night.
@@dovely9279 oh my goodness ! Sounds about like a crisco can feels lol
@@anitajohnson8618 Even better was when I was running with 2 jugs to take them to the outhouse when I was about 5 only to trip and get everything all over me. Mom had to get busy drawing water for a bath in the galvanized tub, though I had washed myself with tears. Great memories 😬. It's a funny story though. People don't know how good they have it now.
@@dovely9279 one summer all of us cousins had to sleep in one room and somebody kicked the can over. I liked growing up in the country. Lots of fun with my cousins. Ahh that was the life. Lol
This is a great start and certainly better than nothing. Thank you for your time and for sharing your information. IMHO, those noodle things are not sanitary and can't be cleaned. Spend the $15 for a cheap toilet seat. Then do research on shielding you may need based on the threats near you.
How are you exchanging air? If you seal up your area, you'll pass out. Also how are you shielding gamma raids? You will not survive with your kit.
Yea about the dirty bomb, or nuclear I hope I’m very close to it. I want to be gone, I don’t plan on sticking around 3-10 years trying to survive the aftermath. Just saying.
What about nuclear winter and starvation?
This is bad advice. You need shielding. Look up halving thickness. You need mass between you and the fallout. If someone were to do this for fallout they would die if radiation poisoning if they don’t suffocate.
I don't have a basement I have a crawl space however I do have a living room right in the middle of my house so I will be either up against that wall on the other side of that wall is an entire other room and I will have a mattress probably on the floor and a couple of mattresses propped up over the top of me so and I will have plastic sheeting contractor bags duct tape shoe covers goggles emergency rain ponchos and baby wipes and masks everything else is in my pantry I hope I'll be safe me and my dogs
Maybe you should rename your channel Down Wind Survival.
No body can not buy a fallout shelter
