Hehe, there’s only one Michael Brecker! But please check out my band Ninjabeat if you like fusion/Brecker Brothers etc 😇 th-cam.com/video/mwWcv-1jVrU/w-d-xo.html
It’s closely linked to overtones/harmonics, so begin by practicing those if you don’t already. There are lots of fingerings for different multiphonics/ split-tones out there, but it all comes down to airstream and your throat really.
I can't even imagine how many hours this took... May I ask you a few questions? Whenever I transcribe solos I tend to transcribe short ones because with that I can extract lots of usable ideas and quickly discard the ones I don't like without wasting very much time. With these crazy solos, do you try to incorporate all the solo into your playing? Do you only incorporate what you really like and consider the rest "finger gymnastics"? Do you consider it really useful transcribing it entirely? Not by sections? (Sorry for the long comment, but I was blown away by this transcription man)
I spent around 6-7 hours transcribing this. I try not to slow it down until after I’m done, then I go back to nail all the details. Getting it in my fingers definitely took a lot longer than transcribing 😅 I don’t transcribe a whole lot. I usually just pick out some ideas I like and work on them. In this case I wanted to get a technical workout and also some ear training, so I decided to do the whole thing. There are lots of licks and ideas worth practicing in this solo. I tend not to focus on “licks”, but break it down into scales, shapes or concepts. That way I find it easier to apply it in my own way. Hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you would like a PDF 😊
@@altariabeats the articulations would be labeled under or over the note, anything on the note has to do with the mechanics of the instrument, false fingering i think. Correct me if I’m wrong
@@anthonygiordano792 That could be a notation standard, but from what I can hear the false fingerings are notated as shown at 0:44. Ultimately you could do it either way to accomplish that sound
@@anthonygiordano792 I used the x notehead for ghost note, and the diamond notehead for false fingerings. People do it differently, but I find it to be easier to read this way.

Subtone/ghost note/tongue mute
