- Fishing the Firefly 2.0: • Fly Fishing: Streamer ...
The Firefly 2.0 is designed as a reactionary "Plug/Crankbait" style fly perfectly suited for Stillwater, Swing, and Plug style presentations for a range of predator species. Can be fished on a Full Sinking line or a Full Float with a small Split Shot 12" up your leader - I recommend a 6wt and up with a Weight Forward style line to help overcome the wind resistance of the Magic Head. The fly can be tied both with and without a Dubbing Brush, and both techniques are featured within the tutorial - Hope you enjoy!

Subscribed & watching your fly tying videos for about two years now. Congrats on getting published with Fly Tyer Magizine(Fall 2018). You belong! Tight lines Gunnar!
Gunnar - I am relatively new to fly fishing and no one you and I mean no one has been more helpful than you. Keep it up. I love the new ideas in a sport that in my neck of the woods has stagnated. ed
Thx for doing this particular pattern. It’s going to work superb for me in Sweden! Thx for all the superb tips and tricks!
Aloha Gunnar would you consider doing a tutorial on using the dubbing brush tool? My brushes end up looking more like tumbleweeds. Lots of dubbing brush videos out there but no one seems to address the problems encountered when you start the spin and the haystack starts forming. Kinda like watching a home improvement video where everyone is smiling and looks like they just stepped out of a glamour magazine. No one tells you how to work around the messes you can encounter when things don't go according to the book. Thanks and keep on keepin' on.
Dear Gunnar, my Fireflies tend to rotate. Could you give any advice on how to fix a finished fly to ride true and what to watch out while tying? Thanks in advance and keep it up, great work man!
Love this fly...but how do you tie it on?
your video is wonderful! i love the detail and step by step, as well as the reasoning why each step is done !!! top notch!! would love to see more from you!
Awesome fly Gunnar - I would love to try these for salmon!
Thanks for posting this Gunnar and doing so both ways, especially since I don't have a brush making jig set up. I like simple and effective ties and flies, even with a little twist like the magic head. She does look like a jerkbait/long bodied crankbait and that Mojo Fly rod cast those and others with ease. Good to see you posting videos again, the last one I saw aside from the Slow Jig Clouser was that cool frog fly that you showed when you were talking about body extensions with titanium wire and shanks. Curious if that one fished okay. But I will have to tie me up some of these and that SJ Clousers as well. :)
Wish I was talented at tying like you. I've been tying for 20 years almost my flies catch fish
Aloha Gunnar and mahalo for another great video. I have a request for all of us geezers who follow your videos. Is there some way you could show a list of materials and tools used? Sometimes the camera doesn't clearly show the label... a list would be a big help. Keep 'em coming!
Hi Gunnar great video and fly. Are you going to do a video on how to set the wire up on your machine and how it works it looks great but I could not see it all from the video. All the best and tight lines
Hey John, Check out Tie Like a Pro, Ep. 6 that I did this past winter - should answer all your questions about the dubbing brush set up!
Hi Gunnar thanks very much just the job all the best
Hi, can you kindly provide info on where I can get the Magic Head ? Nice Video, Thanks for sharing.
Love your vids. But if you really like flies with alot of action. You should try tying one with fly lipps. I've fished several times with the inventor and good buddy of mine Greg Saunders. His flies produce. Believe me. Give it a try please. His product in one of your vids would make him really proud. Keep up the good work Gunnar.
Where would one get that size of cone?I looked around for the r13(4-2/0) size and couldn't find any at a reasonable price. Other sizes are readily available. But not that size.
These look killer!
Where are you sourcing the magic heads? They are nearly impossible to find in the R13 size. I know Hareline discontinued carrying them a year or 2 ago and I couldn’t find them state side. Do you have an easier way?
thanks Gunnar!
How would this fly swim without the magic head? Would it swim like a jerk jr?
Never used the magic heads looks interesting but sourcing is an issue, nice looking color combinations.
Would mouse work on rock bass
You should tie a fly with fly lipps. Look it up. The Inventor of those things is my buddy Greg Saunders. He is an fly tying artist. Look at his website. Fished alot with his flies for redfish. They are amazing
What's up with the new vice ? The design looks hard to cast. You are my hero, thanks for all your incredible videos.
Hi Gunnar, great two for one tutorial! Those zombie eyes reminds me of walleye eyes. I suppose it would defeat the action aspect of the magic head but have you fished it with head rolled back? I don't know if this is still available but I've seen a product called fly lips that's tied on behind the hook eye and acts like a crankbait lip. Have you used them? Thanks 👍😎
Hey Joe, Haven't tried the heads folded backwards - but definitely seems like an easy way to push some water, kinda like a silicone BULKhead. I think Mark Sedoti has a deceiver pattern that runs the Magic Head backwards called the Kicken Chicken that might be worth checking out. As far as the fly lips go, I've seen them but never tied with them. I think they need some buoyancy to fight against or else they just make the fly spin. If you tied up a basic Laser Hair/Laser Dub minnow and put a strip of Foam down the back paired with the Fly Lips it could be deadly!
Gunnar Brammer yeah I'll check those out. I love this concept of adding action to the fly using the components of the fly. There's lots of ways to do it from all aspects of fishing. I've seen a lot things since the 80's, PNW steelheaders cupping the deer hair head on skater patterns to discs on tube flys. Even adding sequins in front of the fly on the leader to give more action. Larry Tullis had a diving foam fly that had tremendous action when retrieved. I don't remember the name of the deer head streamer you tied on that bend down shank hook but that was awesome too. Heck all your stuff has built in action. Thanks for the reply and all the great tutorials. 👍😎
Where can I buy these magic heads m8 thanks
Marc Petitjean 6 St. Magic Head Round
Do you have a good source for buying the magic heads?
No, and I wish I did! Hareline the U.S. distributor dropped the Petitjean line of products in 2018 and I haven't had a good supplier since, unfortunately, but whenever I find them I always stock up!

Good video... It would be 10 times better if you had better lighting.
