  • I visit Nevis Range, Fort William and take the Gondola uplift to ride Blue Doon, 8km of alpine style flow trail. I wanted to know as an average rider, how hard it is and is it worth the £46 uplift fee!

    Great video, and I'm delighted that they've put an easier trail in from the cabin. I'll be up in the spring to try that out for sure. It did look as though they are still working on the surface from the bags of material by the side of the trail, but maybe they want a more cross country feel than a groomed flow trail.

      The trail has made it a lot more accessible for more people to ride and enjoy the uplift 👍

      I think they have plans to upgrade it and keep on top of the maintenance too🙂

    They are improving as they go. 1st time I went there were no berms! Next visit they had added them. Helicopters are expensive to move material and they took advantage of WC improvements to put material on the hill. Build team is pretty small. Expert bikers are few in number so it makes sense to make cash from average folk. I took my Nephew and he loved it. Still enough for me to enjoy. You can get in 9 runs and lunch and afternoon tea if you don't hang about. If you have never been to Alps then it would be good Training.

      The burms aren't that great for keeping speed but they aren't to bad when you get used to them...

    You made those top corners look easy, I found them really tight
    Plus if you are not fit enough for multiple runs you can pay less for one run.

    I do miss my mountain biking - unfortunately I've worn my knees out doing so am stuck with grave land touring now. I also miss The Nevis Range trails and haven't been there for a good few years. I did the World cup circuit last time I was there and only fell off three times! Not at the pace of the professionals I hasten to add. I am tempted to have another go but I gues I am better just watching the videos!

      Donny , get an E MTB . i had to stop riding at 69 due to injuries and inability to get uphills . my wife borrowed an e bike for me and it was like i was 15 years younger . i'm 78 now and still riding off road . i don't do kamakazi downhills, just cruising in the forest .

    Good video pal despite the naysayers, give you a good indication of what it’s like and if the 7 hour drive would be worth it. Incidentally what drone did you use and where did you have the controller when following you?

    It seems more like theyve purposely designed it badly so that in the future it can be reworked into a jump line. Some of those berms, turns , flat corners and flow of it is not really existent to where its more so a trail there for the sake of it. The forrest at bottoms offers better for variety of skill and saves you on uplift.

    • @SearchMTB
      @SearchMTB  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they have designed it so an average rider on a trail bike can ride it. Let's be honest that is the majority of mountain bikers.....
      Then when they get the revenue from all the new riders hopefully they will reinvest in either putting some red lines off the blue or cutting in a new red line 🤞

    • @MancWithAMouth
      @MancWithAMouth 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SearchMTB see I'd be more I lined to say it doesn't really know what it is as It feels very far from a finished product more like the foundation is now laid to put XYZ over. For average or newer riders it's rather exposed , awkward terrain as in the corners, weird none flow and connecting onto a Red I believe ? And how certain sections have almost no trail guidance for upcoming turns , twists etc but are stacked very oddly on hair pins with no berm or fencing yet in one or two spots have fencing in fairly "Safe" run off places.
      For more advanced riders who can find a bit more flow / speed on it again similar issues a rise in the terrain that can cause some issues and concerns.
      I'd say I'm an above average rider and have friends / family as many in all skill levels but genuinely could never recommend this trail. I'd recommend the board walk well before this. Even with ot opening near the First Fort will MacAvalanche it was very awkward and disliked section for how it's laid out and I think there's very good reason the general consensus off a majority I've personally spoke to regarding it is negative yet once your on the bit where the board walk ends it becomes a lot more positive.
      That being said I understand it must be hard to build up there and appreciate there is provably a greater plan for it. But until there's been a lot of trail maturing on it even with it being a few years old now I doubt many minds will change. The lower sections offer far better experiences for what Blue Doons efforts and cost entail.
