    Yay! Thank you so much for your channel. I was unschooled until I was 16 when I started college. I loved it and am a “successful” adult by all measures. I am also the mother of a three year old and just a few years into my journey as an unschooling parent. I love sharing my experiences with curious parents - thanks so much for encouraging others.

    I really enjoyed listening to your video. I pulled my son out of public school about 3 yrs ago and started homeschooling him. It seemed like every day was a struggle. Over the past year or so, I believe, we are now unschooling. Life seems so much simpler and more happy. I have one son, he is 8yrs old. He was actually sitting at the table behind me while I was watching your video and there were a couple of times you mentioned things and I turned and looked at him, I knew he was listening and could relate because of the funny smile he would give me. I'm going to head over to your channel and check it out. I really love listening and talking with other moms about how its like in their homes and what their kids do on a daily basis. Thank you very much

    Yes! This is how we live our life also. Everyone is equal in our house. Ever since we found unschooling and started living it, I find the “discipline” aspect of parenting so much easier bc the kids tend to not lie or hide things because they know we can talk about it and I probably won’t say no anyway lol. I say “discipline” bc we don’t punish etc. we discuss things as they come up. It is amazing how their behavior has changed for the better when I let go of all of the rules I had in place before.

    We are second year homeschoolers and have been slowly transitioning to a more unschooling approach this year. It’s been a great year since we started transitioning, it’s such a good fit for our family. We’re all less stressed and happier.

    I’m not really familiar with unschooling but it’s interesting to learn that I already incorporate a lot of these practices in my parenting style.

    I have been unschooling my daughter right from the beginning and now I have twins! Sometimes I feel so much pressure from outsiders - videos like this remind me that I'm doing the right thing for my family! I talk about unschooling a bit on my channel but it is so hard to really get that message across to others sometimes!

    Thank you for sharing this. You opened my eyes to a whole new and different perspective. I never heard of unschooling until recently. I’m choosing to homeschool this year and a friend mentioned this style of learning. I never would have looked at learning without restriction as an option or that it would influence (positive) importance and the impact it has on ones ability to self regulate. My children are 5 and 7 in Montessori so I believe it’s a good time to test the waters at the very least. 😊

    Good for you. People freak out (Nicholsons at play) and not understand that we are perfectly capable of learning without having someone mold us into what they want. I'm glad your kids know about business and know how to have self discipline. They will be able to regulate their behaviors throughout life because they learned self discipline, not because someone kept telling them "don't do that". I also love the part where they can or NOT hug..i find it so wrong when parents force kids to hug someone.

    My kids are 5&3 and I decided very early on that I would not be enrolling either one in public school. My son will be 6 in September and he loves his electronics. His new thing is splatoon 2 for Nintendo switch. He has finally figured out how to play the game and he's hooked. He voiced searched boss lvl run throughs on his own and can now beat levels without dying! I'm extremely impressed and at the same time conflicted because he's spending SO much time playing. Not sure if I should let him until he's over it or limit his time.... i am new at this so its proving difficult not to control everything!

    I LOVE this video! I'm loving seeing more and more homeschoolers discovering and coming into their full self-education power and liberty by unschooling. That's fascinating how unschooling can become an entire life philosophy of personal freedom with determining one's boundaries from sleep, eating, to personal body boundaries. I'm curious, have you and your daughter considered her learning to be a storyboard artist via online courses? Perhaps she's already discovered that by now. Thank you for sharing so openly about your unschooling journey from your heart.

    Looking forward to seeing more videos from you! I'm a new subscribers and I'm been toying back and forth with unschooling in our home for a few years now. My boys are 9 and 11. I feel like it fit them best but I'm a very plan A type and get a little concerned when all they want to do is watch movies and play video games all day. I see some benefits to the games they play, but I see more benefit in their learning when I say they can only play on the weekends. They are always building with legos and wanting to make movies. My 9 year old reads all the time mostly pokemon stuff and my 11 years doesn't like to read but loves listening to Audio books. I guess sometimes I lack the confidence in the process because its takes so long to see the fruit of the labor and maybe also because I got to brainwashed in the public school model of learning and being told what to do when! Thanks for sharing and I will be binge watch you channel this weekend during my screen time!!

      You're not brainwashed by the public school method of learning. Your kids need structure that you're not willing to provide. Where's the dad in all of this?

    • @creeksidehomeschoolers
      @creeksidehomeschoolers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@albinolucinda There are different variations of unschooling some are completely unstructured and others have more structure. As far as where is their Dad in all of this. He is all about an unschooling, unstructured day, in fact I'm the parent that prefers constant routines and daily flow. He on the other hand wants to do whatever whenever. So its not that I'm unwilling to give them structure, its the fact that when I do they truly don't learn as well and are less creative. BTW are you unschooling your kids? I'm looking for others advice that are or have unschooling/unschooled their own kids and seen the fruit of labor. God Bless and happy homeschooling!

      No problem at all! We do evaluations every year with a certified teacher who checks for progress. It gets turned into our county every year. We put together a binder of some of the things they have done over the year (things like, books they have read, places they have visited, etc)

    Can someone please help me! I am new to this and my 4th grader HATES long math (multiplication) and will cry. I don’t know how to teach it because we always get into arguments. In my mind it seems absolutely ridiculous to know how to do 674 x526 because as an adult I will always use my calculator for that. Is this stuff necessary??? Please help

    • @raisingwildflowers
      @raisingwildflowers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they are crying, that is definitely a sign to back off for a bit. They can come back to it later when they are ready and will learn it so much faster. I think it is helpful for them to understand how multiplication works, but technology has provided us with calculators available to us at all times - and I am all for efficiency. Let the calculator do the hard work lol. 4th grade is still really young - they have plenty of time to learn multiplication before they graduate :)

    Great points as we are finding ourselves in this situation, not by our choosing. I do have to be careful as our 14 yr old son can and will abuse electronic time. But because of covid 19 we have pulled him from school to do a virtual school. Sadly that did NOT work out. So we find ourselves home schooling a stubborn, strong willed child who has melt downs. I am slowly learning to let go and let him. I am brand new at this but this wk we are seeing progress and I am enjoying him so much. It isn't perfect and we are learning this as we go but I see hope for him this yr.

    This is very interesting to me. Are they able to do anything they want or experience things considered inappropriate? What about viewing sexual explicit shows?

    • @raisingwildflowers
      @raisingwildflowers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I do not restrict, but they are also not really interested in watching sexually explicit shows. It makes them uncomfortable and is not something they seek out to watch. We have watched a few probably-inappropriate-to-other-families movies together and they brought up great conversations. A few weeks ago we watched Good Boys together - they are going to be exposed to these things at some point, and I would rather create an environment of open communication so they do not feel ashamed or embarrassed to ask me about these topics. I definitely do not want friends or the internet to be their go-to resource for their sexual questions lol.

      I'm exploring the unschooling idea. I've never been a fan of public schooling. I think it is not only unproductive and boring, it is failing our youth miserably. Children and teens are indoctrinated in so many negative forces I won't even start. They are definitely learning their parents are stupid from someone.
