  • Oh dear, one of our number in the dock this week, and talking of docks, we are turntable hunting in Sharpness docklands, after looking again at the Tetbury to Cirencester branch line. We close with groundhog day - whatever that is!
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

Good morning Ron - sorry to hear that poor Sumack is in the er, dog house!
    Thanks for the many mentions!
I am waiting for the ground to dry out before I attempt the next leg of The Severn Way! It seems to be taking much longer than when I set out on Mt. Plymlimon over 18 months ago!
It is always good to hear about the Parkinsons Walks YT Community - it really is like an extended family.
Loved Cinema Club! Great seeing Rock & Padstow again. I am hoping (weather willing!) to get down to Cornwall again later this month to film the semaphores at Lostwithiel and St. Erth and Truro which are about to dissapear forever - along with some signal boxes too! Fingers x'd I can get it sorted, in between all of these train strikes and heavy showers!
    Take care,
    Paul

Hi Paul, between the weather and militant workers the life of a film producer is getting tougher than ever.
Looking forward to the semaphores film, end of another page in history. Make sure you take care of yourself. Ron

Good Morning Ron - greetings from Poland
Poor Soomack. Getting away with odering balls online appears to have come to an end. I wonder what she will be up to next?
Lovely to hear from Parkinsons Walks Family Members. Messages and comments from the four corners of the earth. I doubt very many YT channels get the same response.
Loved the ferry jtrip across to Rock in what looks like a landing craft. And how nice to hear Paulines voice - a first I think. I see she couldn't stop her Head Gardener job - inspecting the verges to ensure the flowers were being well looked after.

Hi Ron. That was one of your best Vlogs ever. For some reason, I found myself riveted to the screen. The poor fella is a bit challenged when it comes to holding the camera horizontally, in spite of your previous reminders. I'm keeping a bit of a "low profile", since James explained the other meaning of "dock" to me...yikes! A wonderful visit to the seaside Ron, I hope to be swimming again soon, but recently the water has been a bit solid here. Thanks Ron! Have a good week. Sumac OVM

Hi Sumac, I think keeping you head down for a while until the dust settles, is a good plan for now. We nearly made a mess of the "trial" but I think we got away with it. I guess meanie James will be keeping a close eye on his credit card for a while, but give it time.
      Keep barking. Ron

Morning Ron. A lovely film of Cornwall and a wonderful time of year. Being out all of the time with Syd it nice to notice those little signs of spring. There's four reservoirs very near me all built to supply the summit of the Grand Union canal at Marsworth ,great for wild foul but lately there's been huge murmerations of Starlings coming into roost. An amazing sight Stay safe Pete

Good Morning, Ron. Some very informative comments on this weeks ‘matters arising’. Excellent. The Cornwall video, as always, very enjoyable, more please. More rain incoming Sat/Sun. I have managed to recce Hampen Hill cutting, but it’s going to need to dry up a lot before I venture in there! Take care. Ron.

Hello Ron. I very much enjoyed your seaside jaunt with the good lady. I wish I could have lip read what she was saying to you, making her walk along that rather rock strewn beach. Seems she's quite fond of a good pint. Great photography as usual. Keep going my friend . I always look forward to your latest offering.

    Mornin’ Ron,
Poor old Jim with the days shortening in his half of our world, it brought me to mind of a song we used to sing in our neighbourhood choir which started “Sumer is icumen in” originally written in middle English and today it would be written “Summer is a coming in” also known as the Cuckoo Song, but not to be confused with the Laurel and Hardy version.
Sharron’s soup sounds great to me perhaps she could bring along a flask for us all to try when we meet up at the station next week, I shall bring a virtual cup along with me!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the ferry trip to Rock excellent choice of music, I just don’t know how you managed to get a full orchestra with you on such a small boat. We always enjoy listening in the to the New Year’s Day concert live from Vienna. Each year they hold a lottery for the tickets. The draw applications are only accepted in February so only 13 days to go, one year we will get lucky and there is more chance of that than finding any gold!!
Excellent matters arising, if Sumac Vs James gets to court then Sumac will be able to represent herself …. I mean she won’t need a wig will she ……. I’ll get my coat!!
See you all at the station next week, I shall be packing virtual shorts too. All the best!!

Hi David, we tow the orchestra behind in a little boat. Poor Sumac, or is it poor James. I'm reading about water shortages in Spain, I think you have mentioned it before, we have more than we want at the moment, send some buckets and I'll fill them for you.
      Enjoy yourself. Ron

Very interesting news about proposed housing development at or near Sharpness, with its own station! Any such development would require vastly improved public transport links, to avoid total reliance on private cars. Sounds very similar to the developments downriver at Avonmouth, with similar public transport issues - and similar lessons to be learned perhaps. Luckily, lovely Padstow has a ferry!

Good morning Ron. Here’s a nice start for Friday morning. I did enjoy seeing your boat trip and the lovely Cornish scenery inthe sun and the sound of the lapping waves at the end. I saw your coffees and thought any minute now they are going to have a cream tea with delicious Cornish scones and I’m going to be REALLY jealous. Apart from Devon and Ross Garden Centre in the old goods shed you can’t get decent scones especially in Cheshire. Sharpness was very interesting and you discovered such a lot of remnants. Talking of skew-bridges, I can’t remember where you were but there is a wonderful skew bridge at Dinting station which you only see when going from a Glossop to Hadfield on the old Woodhead Line from Manchester to Sheffield. I can’t find a picture to send you but I always say wow when the train goes underneath it. I do that scenic trip when I feel like a short trip out from Macclesfield. Have a nice week. And happy walking tours. 🚶‍♂

I spotted St Enodoc golf club on the far side of the river. I'm surprised you didn't point that out Ron.
As to summer we are off to stay on a farm near Tenby this year. Another glance at the viaduct by the station. Amazing structure. I just cannot imagine how they built it without modern machinary. Probably lots of timber staging and a derrick for hoisting the stones.

That looked like a lovely jaunt for you and your Missus. I am assuming you filmed your adventure within the last week or two? If so, your February is incredibly green. Here in the northeastern US (New Jersey), February is known for its cold and icy winds. They say January is colder, but to me the thick ice of February is always more daunting. We do manage to get one mild week in February where temps reach the low 50's (deg F), but typically, it is in the 20's - 30's most of the time (and sometimes spending time in the teens) and we don't expect to see things greening up and getting pleasant until April. It is definitely beautiful out your way. I am certainly looking forward to Spring.

Hi Ron. I did a heck of a lot of work on my original manuscript, including writing an extra ephisode, for the purpose of avoiding any copyright infringements: The book was originally written as a sequel to a series by another author; but that infringed their copyright which is in force until I am 98 years old, so I had to rewrite a lot of it. (It's no longer a sequel to anything, but is now an original story in its own right.) Having avoided copyright infringement I've queried a number of publishers who accept direct unsolicited submissions. A couple of them look hopeful and will give me a final decision in March. If no joy I'll start querying literary agents.
Everybody get ready for the start of stinging-nettle season in UK: Picked when young and tender in second half of March and in April; stinging nettles make the best soup when they're young and malleable. Take a carrier bag full of stingers home with you and wash them in a bowl. Having done that; strip the leaves from any stringy stems and boil them down on a simmering heat. Like Spinach they almost vanish into green mush. Place in a liquidiser with butter, coriander, cornflower, and a pinch of thyme. Liquidise, adding a little water as you do so. Heat in a pan, adding a touch more water as well as chicken stock if you have any, until mixture becomes thicker. Season to taste and serve with croutons or buttered/toasted bread.
I enjoy watching your weekly productions Ron: Keep up the good work. All the best to both you and Pauline.
