Yes, we would like to see that Roman have more interaction with people on the street and habitants of St Petersburg. That makes the videos more interesting, Bald Sovjet style
The taxi driver seemed like a nice man. Reminds me of the very good people of south Kazakhstan I once worked with on a dredging project over there. Bless him.
The taxi driver was so kind, I've used taxis on a school trip; however, they were not so kind. That highway is so cool, and I wonder why no one decided to buy the buildings and restore them because it seems like a good neighborhood. Great video brother! I wonder if you, Roman, like to cook, and if you might share how you prepare your favorite meal?
The problem is not the noise but so called sanitary restrictions in Russian laws that basically ban residential construction that close to highways, industrial areas etc.
The taxi driver was cool dude and the yellow building that people was living in looked really nice and clean maybe a new build and the WWII monument was awesome my father fought in WWII not in Europe but in the south pacific against the Japanese 1943 in the Battle for Bouganville and he was on Guadalcanal too.

Roma, I like your vlog videos like this but my favorite ones are where you do research and explain things in a fun informational way, like your McDonald's in Russia video. It would be cool if you did something like that for your vlog videos when possible. For example, explaining why this area fell apart and businesses don't want to be be located there. Even if people don't want to live there it would be a good location for industry.
I just spent the past few days watching half of your entire channel and I've finally watched one now on the day it was posted. Sorry it took this long, I've been subscribed since you did that collaboration with serpentza/laowhy86/advchina who I've followed for a long time as well.
That prison looking bridge thing is incredible you're always a stones throw away from a dystopian video game or apocalyptic movie or a beautiful city, I love it!
Roman, you have a genuine talent for making the mundane look interesting! I agree that this island looks like a great place to develop. Put a few restaurants and clubs along the waterfront and you could have a popular dining and entertainment destination. Besides that, I'm constantly impressed by your command of the English language. The easy manner that you sprinkle your conversation with current slang, not to mention the way you correctly utilize the different grammatical structure of English (compared to Russian) is pretty damned impressive. More often than not, you sound like a native English-speaker affecting a mild Russian accent. Just thought you deserved some props there. 👍
They had to move everyone out because of the amount of equipment and work that it took to build that bridge. No place to park and no safe place to walk.
Thanks to you i know more and more about S. Petersburg and Russia. I thinks the last time when you went to the last place in the city you don t show the map where is it like now and previously with Kudrovo.
My guess is that they are making the buildings more insulated from the sound of the highway or just making them more "up to date" because as you said it has potential. I remember seeing a video about a similar scenario in Spb where they renovated these "komunalka" type buildings in much the same way.
Those smaller yellow buildings were like regular stalin-era apartment blocks, once city decided to build highway they relocated inhabitants of closest buildings since they will fail noise regulations. It is hard to repurpose khruschevkas, but smaller stalinkas were sold as commercial building. And then some totally legal company done some renovation stuff and now selling flats in those houses using loophole in current regulation. Those flats are being sold not as flats but as "apart-hotels". Long story short legal-wise those considered as commercial estate with higher taxes but with almost no regulations, thats why those flats are cheaper and can be built in places where zoning laws or other regulations forbids building residential buildings
Roman, if you like residential communities that are uprooted when a highway is built, just go to any midsize to large city in America. It's basically how we created the ghetto
Great tour of the island. It seems very livable as long as you could get used to the noise. If there are triple-pane windows it might be okay inside. Babushkas are tough, anyway!
I remember watching news on TV, that also had segment about a family, that had highway bridge built above them. And I remember, that they complained about car parts falling from bridge and if I remember correctly also certain people commiting suicide. So this may be the reason those buildings are abandoned on this island.
honestly i would love to live on this island, and yea this island has alot of potential, but currently i live in ivanovskaya oblast its not the best place in russia but i sure did make lots of memories there,oh and i forgot to mention how wholesome the taxi driver was,he seems like a very nice person!
Kanonersky island is the first place drugs come in after trafficking in a local seaport. There are ALWAYS you could find a stuff whenever it's unavailable in a City lol
The reason why this island is semi abandoned is lack of infrastructure. You only can move to the island and from it by only one road in the tunnel here: 2:19. There's only one or two marshrutkas (small commercial bus), and that's it. If I'm not mistaken there's only one groceries store, and not that good one. No schools, kindergartens etc. And even if you have a car, there's some major traffic jams at peak hours. Without the car it's really hard to live there. Yeah, and it's borderline impossible to move through that tunnel on bicycle, you have better chances by foot, but preferably by night when traffic almost none. It's a beautiful place with a amazing sunsets and sunrises (when it's not cloudy) and a port. But otherwise there's not much to do. Walk through abandoned blocks if you know the places to go inside, but it might be dangerous, there's not so many gopniks, but rather addicted people messing around and drugs sellers. They don't care about those "no swimming" signs, it was most likely the wind, which is sometimes completely wild there.
Very interesting - you should go back there at some point in the future, make a video about how the area has developed since this video. But yeah, Great video!
