I watched this video hoping to learn a lot more. I bought the tub to clean customers guns and large amounts of brass at a time. I really intended to do cleaning and do an oil bath after. I figured I could use the big tank for cleaning and smaller ones for lubing, but I wanted to see the "right way" to do this. I was disappointed in the video because I expected to see things like degassing the solution, preheating the solution, draining the tank, and how to clean and lube per your suggestions. My understanding is that the ultrasonic cleans so well that it can leave open pores in the metal and it's important to lubricate or oil bath immediately after to prevent rusting. So, what I hoped to learn in the video was completely omitted. If you have a chance to remake this video and address these concepts, please do so. If I'm overly cautious, then I'd like to know that too. Thanks for being a great company regardless.
The Hot Tub and cleaners are safe for all nonpainted materials. If you leave some parts assembled you just have to make sure you get them rinsed off-wiped clean of any residue that may remain plus any preparations for proper reassembly of your platform.
If that cleaner were long enough for a 20 inch upper, I would buy two of them. Its a shame because I was really hoping this one would work. The only sonic cleaner I can find that will fit a 20 inch upper starts at $1400.00. HORNADY PLEASE UPDATE THIS CLEANER. It needs to fit a 20 inch upper.
One of the reasons I haven't got this yet is its too small. I do have a 16 barrel on my AR but with a after market break it won't fit. Plus I have longer barrels and or uppers in AR 15 & 10 with 20"+ barrel lengths which won't fit in his sonic cleaner. I wonder if hornady is planning on making something longer or just larger in overall size to accommodate longer or bigger gun parts.
Thanks for the video. Two questions; 1- Can you please explain what the "de gas" function does? 2- if you select a temperature of let's say 120º do you also have to turn on the heater button? Or are they two different things? thanks
Hornady - How much room on the sides do you need? My upper is 21", and you state this is 24.5" long. Is that extra 2.5" (so it would be 1.25" on each end) enough room away from the sides?
I wondered about the same thing on leaded barrels. I am hoping that it would loosen up the lead/brass/copper so that a LEWIS LEAD REMOVER would finish up the job.
You mention that the Hot Tub and cleaners are safe for all "non-painted" materials. I see in many videos for this product that when gun parts are cleaned, this almost always includes the slide which obviously has the sights still attached. Aren't the dots on sights painted on...and if so, is this cleaner safe for cleaning slides with sights still attached?
We recommend NOT using the heating function on sensitive and painted items. There should not be an issue with quality paints when short cleaning cycles are utilized and the heating function is turned off.
So referring to the main tank, what is the longest shotgun barrel(s) (etc.) that will fit ? For example, is an 18.5" Mossberg or Beretta 1301 18.5" barrel going to fit ? If the length of the bottom tank is 25.5 minus the edge dimensions of the tank and frame, I would think at least 18.5" barrels would fit ? TIA.
@@hornady Appreciate the answer. Coincidentally I called Hornady today and got a similar answer. Actually, the full length of the 'barrel' - with the 'shell loading ramp' etc., is closer to 20.5". Your tech said no problem. I just placed the order on Amazon (including the gun parts cleaner :-) One other question. Is there any issue cleaning say a Glock (et al) slide with fiber optic (TruGlo) sights? Hopefully not, because removing the sights each time is not an option ... and being able to clean the slide is a real bonus. TIA.
My lock-n-load Sonic Cleaner 2L has got a hole at the bottom of the S.S. bowl. Very sad only had it for a year. Can i fix it by patching it or replace the inner bowl?
The firearms industry is almost universally filled with awesome customer service. The customer service I've received from Hornady was even beyond my highest expectations. Absolutely top notch company.
@hornady So I noticed that you put the brass cleaner on the gun components and the gun cleaner on the brass......so sense I found this discrepancy, can I have one gifted?
Man, I thought this system was built to fit most AR uppers. That 16" barrel hardly fits in that thing. If someone has anything besides a standard flashhider, it's not going to fit. Plus, many AR-15 rifles have longer than 16" barrels. I was going to buy one of these bc of this function, but it really limits me to only fitting only a single gun in my gun safe.
Sad, it doesn’t look like they answer questions. Rule number one on any social media...be social...interact with customers...answer their questions. It’s worth paying a full-time employee to handle this task.
@@hornady I was thinking about all the questions throughout the entire post...most are not answered, but they’re questions we all have and can learn from. Cant get a straight answer out of Hornady, only these defualt coorperate answers that dont answer anything. Bottom line!!!! Please!!! Would you put your own personal $1500 cerakoted upper in a sonic cleaner
Marc, Cerakote is a quality finish and we have used the Sonic Cleaners with this finish. We would always recommend starting on the side of caution, and use properly diluted gun parts formula by Hornady with no heat for a short time to start out.
Perhaps Hornaday should use a professional actor, this nice guy is so nervous that he downgrades the cleaner by the way he acts and has to constantly look at his notes... It was too painful to watch the whole video.....
Gun parts and water? not sure about that. I would think a full and total take down to make sure that are dry. Why not just clean your firearms more often and be done with it.
I use mine on most guns once a year. If you clean a gun real well and put it in the cleaner you will know that you cannot clean some spots. Crude comes off the cleanest guns

If your ar15 is painted with a different color example grey, would this cause an issue?
Yes it would. You would have to make sure to get the water solution rinsed and wiped off before preparing it for reloading again.
I am telling everyone I know not to buy or use Hornady due to poor leadership there what with vaccine mandates and all. You are just like Brandon

Nice, Christmas wish list present.
2 or 3 cap fulls. I want Matt Mack to be my bartender.
would be nice if they gave actual inner dimensions of the main compartment, as not all 16" uppers are created equal.
24.5" long tank.

I wish they would make a longer one to clean guns like the 9130 M1A and m1 grand.
It looks like you removed the handguard from the AR upper... Is that necessary? If you have a float tube on your upper does it need removed?

All firearms r coated but my thing is how will it handle cerakoted parts. Does it clean brass fouling in the barrel?

2:25 300° kelvin? That’s like 80°F 😂 or about 26°C
I have a dumb question: how to dry the gun parts afterward? I’ve obviously never submerged my guns in water, so this seems foreign to me.
I use compressed air from my air compressor then spray lube
