Always fun seeing Cimarron, and driving through Cimarron canyon.

I grew up going to this area with my father in the late eighties and early nineties. We went to Eaglenest so much. I remember one winter ending up in Red River and it was so beautiful covered in snow. My dad obliged me the one time and took me to the St James Hotel; even though we didn't stay, we were given such a cool tour!
Every summer of my childhood was spent at YMCA Camp Shaver in the Jemez, right next to Battleship Rock.
I am so fortunate to have grown up in this beautiful corner of the world. 🥰

Yeah!! Me too!!! My dad, uncle and I for many years would go to Eaglenest in early July. Back in the mountains west of Eaglenest is a cabin and campground of a boys organization called the Maverick Club. We would get the place ready for the members to visit in July and August before school started. Many memories of hiking and fishing in the area.

Thankyou for this video. my father grew up in this area and I always wanted to see it.
I have a older twin brother burried in Union co. N.M. IN what was then called Cuatas N.M. back in 1929.

Went on this drive before the first with my folks in 2017. We were just cutting thru to Eagle Nest and had no idea of the beautiful drive we had ahead of us thru the canyon. That descent down to the valley over the damn was one of the most spectacular views on that whole trip, and dare I say one of the prettiest views in all of New Mexico.
Glad to hear the area is healing from the blaze.
Likely going to go back thru there later this spring/summer to see it again

So nice to see the St. James and the Tooth of Time ridge. Pennsylvania is a long way away from my old jobs at Philmont, but is with me forever!

Moses. Vista's neat what was Moses and Clayton.
But Eagles nest has a lot of memories dad talked about. T.Grandad did a lot of trapping here.

      Correction.
      Raton .. Moses .. Cuatas
      And Clayton.
      You will only find Cuatas
On older maps. It was just above Moses.

No ma'am, I stayed at the less than opulent Cimarron Inn 😂 It is definitely nice and cool, especially at night. With the low humidity it is fantastic.

The summer temperatures are nice there usually in the low to mid 70’s most of the time. The last couple of years have seen the temperature up to mid 80’s a few times. That’s at Eagle Nest.
