Watching this from Southern New Mexico. It’s only 108 today 😩😩😩 Northern NM and CO look very similar. Have you done Estes park yet Russ? We camp hosted there last summer although I would not recommend the campground we worked at.

As an Eagle Scout I did a lot of backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch and even worked there one summer. When we had days off we would drive to and through places just like that. Excellent memories even drove to Telluride for a YMSB concert.

Real nice video Russ. Very scenic, the Vietnam was a nice tribute to our veterans. My brother spent two years over there in the Marine Corp as a radio man. Was not a good experience for him but was fortunate to come home again. The bridge and Gorde were something to see. Thanks again for the ride along. Take care.

That was really interesting. The first and only time we drove on Route 64 was in January of 2017 and everything was white, covered with snow, most of the way to Taos. Eagles Nest looked like the North Pole. The lake was completely iced over. I think the temperature was very cold, around 5 degrees late in the day. Too cold for me, but summers would be great. Thanks showing us what the summer months looked like. The gorge was cool. I got dizzy watching the video. Safe travels and thanks again.

Enjoyed seeing a bit of the northern NM scenery I haven't passed through before. My path from the southeast used to take me I-40 to Clines Corner, through Sante Fe, to Antonito, Colorado. My preferred route now takes me from Amarillo TX to Raton NM to Walsenburg to Antonito. Gotta admit, your route on this trip is way more scenic, especially at the Rio Grande bridge.

I'm sure I'm not alone in pulling up google maps to follow along that way as well. I've got two separate windows open right now, lol. So far - my favorite part is Taos itself. Until your video, I don't recall seeing it in pictures before, (never been there),. At least, coming into town that way. The galleries are o-k but it's the town itself I want to see. It has those old-school pueblo-style motels hidden among all the dark green trees. I love that stuff. I bet there's some good eats up there as well. I really need to see that part of N.M. Cheers and thanks for this one as well. 👍

Once again, I'm watching on my TV and using my phone to Google information about your stops. Being from WV, when I saw folks fishing and then active mining I knew something was up. Huge environmental energy has been spent on cleanup, or not, perhaps. One site stated that fishing is good upstream of the mine, but dead below. I didn't research further, not knowing the geography of the NM area you are driving.

Great views and perspective, last time I was there several years ago on Memorial Day weekend my band played at a place I can’t remember the name of the bar but it was a bike fest in town, a bunch of Harley Davidsons and choppers and leather. We played on a stage set up facing the street right off the front of the bar entrance. It was spectacular and we had a great time we played twice Friday night inside the bar then Saturday at around two in the afternoon outside on the stage they had set up. We came in to town from Questa from Colorado so it was cool to see your veiw from Eagles nest. Thank you, love your videos…

I'm anticipating your trip on to Chama. From Tres Piedras to Tierra Amarilla on 64 most beautiful! Then north out of Chama on 17 to Antonito very scenic.
North of Chama in CO is a little town Horca. From there I've driven in 2 wheel drive within about 7 miles of South Fork before getting back on paved rd.

Just a beautiful area, the closer one gets to Colorado the better it gets. Someone else was traveling in that area and posted a warning issued by the sheriff’s department in Taos warning about Bigfoot. Yes an actual warning from the sheriff’s department about Bigfoot. I read it and it stated if you see one act normal, do not run to or from a Bigfoot and drum roll please…do not feed a Bigfoot. They actually posted that in the mountains. There were some pretty gnarly footprints found in some mud in the mountains.

Hi Russ, really enjoy your efforts and your chuckle. Too cool for school! We recently had the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in our city. It' is a smaller version of the permanent one in D.C.
Has all the names of those M.I.A. and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Something like 18,000. Think I saw some memorial bricks there along the walkway. Thank you for stopping there. For so long after this war the veterans were not recognized or appreciated (the forgotten war). Thanks again!

Really windy that day, but we wet a hook and caught a few. His wife canned the trout from previous catches. Great recipe she shared with me! 90 minutes at 11 PSI in the old pressure cooker. Good stuff! 1992. Seems like yesterday. Thanks for sharing Russ!!

The area is called sulpher gulch, and the mine is called the Questa mine. After looking it up, I saw they mine for Molybdenum....what the heck is that I thought? Well it is used to steel production to add strength to add conductivity and a few other uses. I had never heard of it. You're always learning something, right?

We stayed in Eagles Nest a few years back for 10 days and loved the area and will be back there in August this year for a month. Further down Cimmaron Canyon there is an old west hotel (The St James) with lots of history including bullet holes in the old tin ceiling of the bar. Even further down is the National Boy Scout camp on part of one of the largest land grants of the country which is on part of the Santa Fe Trail little further is the Kit Carson Ranch complete with college kids that dress the clothes of Kit Carson days they give tours of how life was and are very knowledgeable. The mine in by Red River mines molybdenum ore and has its own shaddy history

I would so love to go to Taos. I want to see the residential areas what the homes are like. The main street was so Adobe looking. Love seeing in your rig. It looks like a man's office very cool!
I had a Transit 250 that I fixed up in the back I called it a mobile tent, I loved it, but I got tired of traveling by myself. I enjoy your trips..

There is a train in Chama. Old steam engine. It’s called the Cumbres and Toltec. I’ve ridden it before. It’s a beautiful trip.

We use to go to Red River in August to escape the Texas heat. Not too many tourist there at that time either. Michael Martin Murphy does a show there that is worth seeing for sure. Also if you didn't eat at the Texas Red's you missed a treat. There are also the wild mustangs to see out of Questa if you had of taken a left there instead of a right and turned to go to Colorado. Pretty drive too. Also before you got to the bridge did you see the off grid community? They have a tour that is worth seeing how they are totally off grid. Lot's to see around there for sure. The elk are beautiful in August also around Eagle's nest and Red River. Thanks for the memories of that area,

On way to Taos you missed one of the great Mexican restaurants called Rancho Chamayo. There is also a beautiful old church there too

Have driven across 64 several times, never disappointed. Always had to exit in Cimmaron to go see Philmont. Also Rio Grande Gorge bridge is wonderful, have to get out and walkout on it. You'll enjoy the view. Happy travels.

I like the ceramic on the back, but you really need one on the sides for views like that gorge
