Thank you very, very, much! I was thinking of not trying to mix my own songs until you explained how to use iZotope Neutron 3. I am using the trial versions of the suite. Now I'm thinking I might purchase after I learn how to use Ozone 9 and Nectar 3.
I love it as my "every channel" option. In fact, it saved my bacon two days ago on a vocal track needing serious repair when Nectar 3 couldn't offer the same control (ironically).
Finally tried this feature this week. Works as advertised.I’m not quite using it as suggested (using instances of relay on sub mixes) with a mix of Neutron and ozone individual plugins for a final mix/ master. I’ve already done some of the heavy lifting BUT the visual mix is a decent start. Will give a try on stems alone next time.
Great Tutorial. I'd already spent a while mixing a track but this plugin put a fresh perspective on it and made it sound much more polished. That visual mixer is an excellent tool. I'm glad I bought it now. Thanks a lot!
I don't have a "Mix Assistant" button at the top of my Visual Mixer interface? o.O edit: Oh I think it's because I have Neutron 3 Standard instead of Neutron 3 Advanced...
Hey Torsten. Thanks for an informative tutorial. I’m looking to use mix assist to just get my bass and drum levels right on a pop/rock track that builds in intensity. Then I can add the other tracks to my taste. I’m wondering if mix assistant would allow me to add volume automation on a track. For example to enhance a certain drum fill. I’m guessing mix assistant doesn’t allow for automation or a song that ebbs and flows in intensity? I also guess that track need to be unfrozen to allow Relay plugins to work? Thanks again.
(sorry, I didn't get the notification for your comment!) It really depends. It's not great if the recorded audio's gain was garbage to begin with. Otherwise, it does a good job IMHO.
Say for instants I have a relay on a particular track but then I want to go back and I One neutron to EQ it. Do I leave the relay on that particular track as well as the neutron EQ and used the neutron EQ feder to adjust volume instead of the relay?
@@mattiundernoise7351 they know exavtly what I meant (: If that’s the best track they could come up with to demo this plugin maybe they chose the wrong career
@@PudWhacker my favorite feature is the exciter. My mixes have sounded a lot more dynamic and full when I started compression a little less, and started using more exciters, and saturation. It is awesome!
I have two bass tracks that I want to DUCK the kick. There is no option to have a second equalizer in Neutron. What is your recommended solution to this?
Ozone is definitely a more straightforward choice. It's intended for mastering. However many of the tools in Neutron could also be used for mastering. For a mastering chain you'd want linear phase EQ, possibly dynamic EQ, a compressor with a fair amount of control (like the ability to EQ the compression detection circuit) and a limiter.
I speak Dutch, and it is always a bit complicated to translate everything correctly, or rather: how to interpret the sentences. The modules wich come with it will vary... Elements has for example 3 modules... Standard has all except 3 or 4 and Advanced is the full version... On the website there is usually a chart where you can see what's included in it
Thanks I got neutron 3, nectar 3 and ozone advanced and need help with these. I take it I would use nectar 3 on vocal first, then neutron and then take that mix into a separate audio prefect for mixing with ozone 9?
The order you use effects in will vary. Nectar does so much on a vocal that you may not need Neutron, for example. But Ozone is very useful for mixing and mastering at a bus or master bus level. Sometimes Ozone is even good on individual tracks / sounds, if you're only using one of it's modules or you have the Advanced version where you can break them out.
Most examples that you'll find online are for an individual channel; but, I use it on busses or subgroups all the time (multi-track). I find it offers a workable starting place for just about anything I throw at it.
Hello, and thanks for your tutorial. Very nice! I'm working in Logic Pro X, but I'm sure most things work the same in each program. I'm wondering if I can put Relay on my tracks, do the analysis, then replace Relay with an instance of Neutron 3 on the tracks that I want to EQ, Compress, etc. I've already been working on several songs with Neutron 3 so I wanted to check with you before moving forward with replacing the Relay plugins. Thanks very much for your help with this issue.
Or use it for your static mix to save you some serious time. You still automate it and adjust after the fact. It's just a starting point. PS - I HATE EDM
Perhaps you don't like the automatic mix feature. The but the remainder of the plugin is super legit. It's a very capable mixing plugin used by engineers and producers around the world. IMO the iZotope and FabFilter plugins are some of the best on the market.
Can you define useless gimmick. Respectfully unless you have used I cAnnot see the logic behind your opinion; that is of course pending your take on useless gimmick.
Should I add a relay to each channel so I can see each channel in the visual mixer? What about CPU?
Hey hey. It's been quite a while since this video, but I think that's how it works. I'm pretty sure Relay is light on CPU.

How do you use visual mixer to put the same channel equally panned Left and Right?
Absolutely phenomenal stuff!!!
Is there any way to automatically name all the instruments in relay all at the same time???
So are you suppost to use this only on seperate buses?? Cause i slapped it on my master bus and it destroyed my mix lol it was terrible lol
dont put anything else other than multiband compressor ,limiter and EQ on the master buss

Should you avoid filter and volume automations before mix assistant?
no pro here, but im sure its fine as long as you do your automation on a utility (gain) plugin rather than the volume slider of the individual track
