      The FX4 package is very good to have up here in the high desert in northern AZ. There are 2 paved roads in an area at least the size if Houston. I have 12,000 miles on my short cab F-150 and the skid plates show signs of doing their job. When you have conditions up here with snow on top of a layer of ice, or many sandwiches of ice and snow, the locking diff really comes in handy. The only thing I don’t use in the off-road package is the hill decent control.

      @@ham7357 it sounds like you’re the dipshit. I can fit just about anything I need to put in my 6’ bed. The short wheelbase is outstanding if you live way out in the middle of nowhere and you’re on dirt roads in the woods or blazing a trail in the woods. And the ecoboost has WAY MORE torque at under 3,000 rpms than any modern v8-namely the 5.0. Granted, it would be nice to have the 8’ bed with a tool box, but I’d be sacrificing my maneuverability out in the brush.

Any xl base with 4x4, engine upgrade and zero other options is at 40k, so he basically added some options to equal an engine upgrade. 40k is the new base price for 4x4. It is 2020, not 1990.

      @byronlemay2166 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Indeed it is. Quite frankly, I wouldn't pay any more than 30K for a basic truck like this brand new. It's the options that are the killer. This truck really shouldn't be towing anything heavier than 2500lbs...it's a grocery getter. Nothing wrong with that but if I wanted a truck like this just to tool around town, I'd order it with this engine but with no more than $2000 worth of options...maybe just the power package. 2wd and if I wanted more grunt, I'd just install an electronic locking rear differential...those stock 4wd units are quite heavy. It's a nice truck he has here...it's too bad he regrets the engine. For what he has, perhaps he should have bought a late model used Nissan Frontier...the gas mileage wouldn't be as good but he would have saved more than 10K and the insurance, registration would be cheap. Those Frontiers are good trucks.

    I have a 2015 model F150 supercrew 2WD with the 3.5 NA TiVCT and I tow regularly with it hauling cars. I have hauled 8000lbs with it and it handled it fine. It's not a speed demon, but it does what it needs to do and doesn't complain. AND I also have 220k miles on the truck and have never had to perform any major mechanical repairs. Yeah it doesn't snatch a load around like a diesel or the ecoboost, but hauling a 20' double axle 2500lb car hauler trailer with full size 5500lb trucks, it really surprises me! Don't be scared if you're on the fence about the base V6 motors!! Take it from someone who uses their truck like a truck and not only hauling a sack or two of pre packaged firewood from the gas station to a marshmellow roast!!

    Jordan, I drove a Silverado RCLB WT with the 4.3 Vortec V6 and a 5 speed manual for 9 years. I had it from 2006 to 2015 before trading up for a truck with more features. It too was “meh” on acceleration and you had to coax it and sweet talk it to make it accelerate at all on the highway. But it faithfully pulled my little 16’ boat all over the US and followed me around to 3 different military assignments in 3 completely different climates (IL, CO, and TX). At times I did not appreciate the how basic the truck was and yearned for power windows, automatic trans, power door locks, etc... but after I traded the truck I regretted it, to this day I wish I had kept it. Hopefully you will grow to love your little mediocre motor over time.

      your exactly right , I use to work for GM Canada and the push was to sell extended cabs to convert people from cars to trucks, Ford GM and Ram like this the profit margins were much higher on trucks, the Fried 3.3 V6 and GM4.3 V6 ,Toyota V6 are the best reliable simple V6's on the market , true workhorses and will stay reliable with regular maintenance and run an easy 300k miles or almost 500k kilometres for us Canadians , these engines are simple and built very robust and the base auto trans in them are built the same with a simple ECM module for the trans, the modern trans fluid they use now are much better than even 10 yrs ago , you could drive this truck into your 30's , you'll grow tired of it before it grows tired of you, its a 20 yr truck and in your state with no climate extremes it'll last beyond that 20 yr figure, I'm rebuilding a 2002 Golf GLS with the same options and the same basic engine and 4 spd auto and a VW specialist told me a rare car and good powertrain combo and average fuel economy of 35/36 mpg nothing to complain about, well its not a truck that will come in a year or so, it will be much as the one you both own even if it is a late model Less is More 👍

My truck has the 3.7 and no turbo. I have pulled a 16 foot trailer full of firewood ( 2-1/2 cord) at about 60 and it kept up pretty good. 88000 miles and the only problem I have had is a wire pinched in two on the radiator support that caused it to ground out and just died. I'll bet that engine with the six speed will last forever if maintained. I have a 2014 Ford Flex with the 3.5 brother of this engine and the six speed automatic. It goes and goes and goes . . . and yours will be even better because, from what I understand, mine has the sometimes troublesome internal water pump because it's a front wheel drive; yours has the desired exterior pump because it's a rear wheel drive. And I think the six speed is terrific, I can't imagine better; don't know why they'd risk trouble with a complex 10 speed - the pennies you save on gas will mean nothing if you have tranny problems later on. If I were buying a Ford, I would get that exact same truck, except with the 8 foot bed. I don't tow much, and if I do it's just a trailer load to the dump. Mine's been fantastic . . . love Fords!

      Want a particular engine choice.... BOOM - you're in an XLT!.... Want some specific option without a package - sorry - please add the "package" and then you might as well upgrade to the trim level that includes it and a bunch of other stuff you really don't want... Honestly, it's very costly to offer al-a-carte options and it's why pretty much only GM still does it (but they don't make a big deal about it) dealerships order based on what they "think" most people will order and what options they know will be profitable (either by the options themselves or be desirable in dealer trades). Ford has run the numbers - GM still does business they way (largely) they have for 60 years - minus a few divisions since 2009. I have no doubt that if you wanted a regular cab, short bed, with the most powerful engine, blue exterior with red interior, cruise control, power locks, manual windows, plow package, no tow package, and a Bose sound system you could order it. With Ford or RAM - good luck....

    I bought a 2018 F-150 like yours, but 2wd instead of 4wd. It had 14,000 miles on it when I bought it. It was sold to the original owner 12 months before I bought it from the dealer in New Braunfels Texas in February, 2020.
    It now has 21,000 miles on it. I don't have anything to tow, so the 3.3 litre works great for me. I'm retired, and do woodworking projects, and use it to haul plywood and lumber. I live in the Texas hill country, and lots of hilly and curving roads. My mileage stays close to 23.5 - 24.0 around the hill country. When I get out of the hill country on interstate highways I get 25.0 to 25.5 mpg, but I do drive the speed limit, 70 or 75.
    I'm very happy with this truck. The dealer was asking $21,000 + TTL. I offered $21,000 out the door, and they did the deal.

So I bought a new Nissan Frontier SV extended cab 4x4 for $28k. 4 liter V6 5 speed auto that gets about 20mpg. And tows up to 6500 but that is pushing it. The local Ford shops business plans were behind me buying a Nissan and it's been a great truck. I've owned 14 trucks for work and personal use from 1 ton to import 1/2 ton trucks over the years. Ford, GM to the imports and have had better luck with the imports.

    That 3.3L NA motor was designed specifically as a work truck model motor. In the fleet industry, you want affordable to purchase, easy to maintain, and cheap to repair. That being said, NA V8 and V6 motors due tend to be MOST common. With that being said, it also means that in the fleet world, horsepower takes a backseat to more pressing matters of reliability and the before mentioned requirements of low operating costs. Nice truck, and good video. Good luck with it, and enjoy it!

(4x4 a waste of money with more stuff to go wrong if living in Texas and not towing - hence my choice) I guess that Ford 0% finance package removed a rebate.
