    Really glad to see you react to Julian Lage. He's become one of my favorite guitar players over the last year. It's a lethal combo of technical skill with incredible feel and phrasing. Sometimes jazz players can lose that sense of feel in favor of technical runs and modes. Julian is the real deal. Check out Etude by him when you can.

      Lage would be a prolific enough recording artist on his own, but if you add in his parallel career with John Zorn he's heading for a Buckethead-sized catalogue and he's just perfect on everything he does.

    Thank you for mixing it up. Although I love blues and rock, this was a lovely change of pace. Especially since I'm listening over my first cup of Morning coffee! Beautiful!

    Heard you say “who knew a tele could sound so good with jazz?” Ted Greene might blow your mind if you havnt heard him, definitely someone to listen to in your free time, hes like the bob ross of guitar in my opinion, love the reaction!

    That was mellow, relaxing, smooth and clear as a bell. The guy is talented, to say the least. Peace.

    I’m so sorry you don’t have more views. Watching your eyes soften during the early parts as you processed what he was doing was a real treat. You saw it right away…he is a monster. Good work, thank you for sharing.

    Jazz guitar is a whole different animal. The chord structures and the speed these guy play with are amazing. That's why I respect and still listen to pioneers like Joe Pass, Tommy Tedesco, and jim Hall. Some of the greatest rock guitarists who could also play jazz were Tommy Bolin, Gary Moore, SRV, Tony Iommi, and Jimi. Good vid dude...

    Any chance you can react to Look Book, another tune he did live in Nashville? “I’ll be seeing you” is another great one, too.

    The feel for dynamics is crazy, it sounds like he’s running out of breath on some of the lines

    Yeah, that's a soft-edged sound for a tele. Who'd think that the same guitar could cut blocks of ice like Albert Collins! I had a 70s tele with a humbucker at the neck and that was pretty full, but this sounds like he's got a lot of tone dialled out too?

    • @Devon_Rismay
      @Devon_Rismay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big facts, I was quite surprised he got such a good tone out of it for jazz

    I'm not a jazz fan at all, but I DO love hard core blues. I can see this guy is talented, but I can't say that I really liked the song he was playing.

    • @Devon_Rismay
      @Devon_Rismay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the song was fabulous, but jazz is an acquired taste.

    I have a couple requests for review of current soul/blues singer/songwriter guitarists. Devon Gilfillian - Troublemake and Joe Marson-I Got It Wrong. I believe you will enjoy their work. Great review on this piece it was quite lovely.

    You should definitely check out 'Kuti' by Charles Llyod's album Sacred Thread ft. Zakir Hussain and Julian Lage. The sound of it is inspired by Indian classical music and it just melts me everything I hear it.

      A bit of a departure from jazz or blues/rock, but shredding nonetheless.
