I've learned so much stuff from you, so thanks! I normally split off the back of my truck, which is the same height tailgate to splitter in the horizontal position. I use the tailgate, or if I'm not at the truck, a small plastic folding table, so that if you need a 1/2 round to sit at the splitter while you are spitting up the other 1/2, you don't need to lift it up again. Lots of time I just try to balance it against my stomach, and end up dropping it 1/2 the time. But, a small plastic table the same height as the splitter, on the opposite side, or somewhere handy that doesn't get in the way of getting wood, to hold those big 1/2 rounds, so you don't need to balance them or pick them up again, helps a lot. Sometimes I'll use a little longer plastic table a little offset from the splitter, and actually use it as a slide to a pile. Heh heh, anything to lift as little as possible. I have those exact hooks, (and the larger ones too) for carrying 2 rounds out of the bush. Never tried with the splitter though. My hands are getting a little carpel tunnel, so maybe time to add the hooks to moving wood at the splitter.

I bought one of these Husqvarna 8" Timber Tongs probably about 15 years ago, after I saw you demonstrate on in a GOL class. I'm a bit of a gadget hound, so I've tried a wide variety of log handling tools. Nothing suits my needs as well as these, whether it's loading rounds onto the splitter, or repositioning longer logs.
When I lost my first pair somewhere out in the woods, I promptly went out and bought another. I found the first pair again months later, and they are now my "loaner" pair. Most of the people I've lent them to ended up buying their own. (It's also become a favorite suggestion for someone looking for a Father's/Mother's Day or Birthday gift for anyone who works with firewood.)

Thanks for the tips. Im gonna 3d print a handle for the old tongs I have - the original handle is just bare steel round stock.
