I just ordered Steve's " The Groove is here DVD".... can"t wait to see it!!!!........My whole approach to drumming COMPLETELY changed when I discovered Steve! Sold my monster size drum kit,, bought a 4pc 1965 Ludwig Silver sparkle, couple of crashes, a ride, hi hat, and that's it!! Back to basics, keeping it simple and focusing more on the groove! I enjoy playing much more now than I ever did in the last 25 years!! Thank You, Thank You Steve, for showing me the light!!!!
usually the "signature drums" are just about marketing. but Steve Jordan is not only one of the best drummer out there, but is also a great producer and musician, and know exactly how a drum is supposed to sound. so I guess these drums are going to be really really nice. keep on doing your job this way Steve, with the smile always on your face and the enthusiasm of a young boy!
It's a pleasure hearing Mr. Jordan play funky beats. I wish I could get old David Letterman clips from when Steve was the house drummer. Trust me, he was funkier, younger, and full of energy. If anyone knows how to get those clips of the show from the late 70s and the 80s, please hit me up. Thanks.
lol, I like how his bottom hi-hat cymbal turned inside out towards the end of the video. That's probably why you don't see very many stock 17" hi-hats.
@toddy1968 - Yamaha club customs are build from Indonesian KAPUR wood , this wood is also used in the Yamaha top range PHP drums line ( together with Jatoba (brasilian wood, and maple or ash ) !
@hendrixfan57 i think so, he uses huge hats though ( i think they're like 17" custom cymbals paiste makes for him similar to crash cymbals) So I dont know if they are thinner like a crash and it inverts or whatever. But it still sounds great!
I played these drums at Sam Ash in Hollywood yesterday. These drums are the best sounding drums I've ever heard. EVER. I know I know... I hate when people say that, but you gotta try these. These videos don't do em justice. The tom and kick sound is absolutely incredible. In this video (as someone else mentioned) the tom sound isn't good. In real life, Its better than good. Go try em out if you can.
@jonathanroosevelt funny you say that...on one of his vids hes talking about how if ur REALY grooving playing drums in a song before the rest of the instruments come in, you can already here the song in the drums them self.steve has that perfect hybrid of sliyghtly swung and straight funk and MAN his drumming is the most musical there is. he played right after he said this in his vid. and thats when i REALY realised what groove means.
@toddy1968 I had the catalina be bop kit before and loved it and mahogony has never been considered a crap wood! I do like Yamaha drums a lot but these just don't sound that good to me however I do love the sound of the Many Katche kit but once again they are made of mahogony!
@harrypar1 You must be the only one lol. This series caters to the "old school" sound which is popular in some music today. Steve Jordan's sound is a good example for this vid. Keith Carlock would be a good example too. It sounds dope to me. The bass drum sounds meaty at 1:13 IMO and listen to what he says at 2:19
@leeyatding there sure will be....infact when these drums are ready to be sold and ordered, the only way you can order is to select you own drum specifications...they dont sell them in set specifications! i want a 13 snare,10,14,15 tom and 20 bass!!!!
How can you compress the audio like that? The beautiful dynamics of the kit are lost this way. Destructive. Steve Jordan is a great drummer, he deserve's more dynamics!
i love the steve jordan! love the orange kit color. not so much the tom sounds. to tight n high fer my liking. but hey thats why they put erasers on the lawnmower.
Killer. What are the 18"hihats he is using at the end, the bottom cymbal seems to be inverted like a china. Also what is the price point of the kit he is playing?
@Moog168 the bass drums is very nice indeed... but I don't like the toms that much. of course they give off a vintage old school sound as well. But I know that if you don't want to blow the people out, you just don't play hard.... contrariwise, if you want to play loud then you better have to look for a set that can give you the volume you want..... I own an oak custom, if I don't want to blow out the scene, I just play softer with dynamics, even if they say that Oaks are very loud.
SJ: "It was designed after a few requests that I had a few years ago when I came to Japan" You can bet your bollocks to a barndance those requests were; 1: Make it look like a Ludwig 2: Make it sound like a Ludwig ;)
@harrypar1 Oh I'm not saying I play hard either I owe a Yamaha Musashi snare which is oak as well but some drums are just super sensitive and you don't have to play hard for them to project. and again Imagine the toms in a lower tuning Steve has his toms at a fairly high tuning.
@Monsterdrumma i have to say that i've always been a fan of gretsch drums, and have always thought the catalina jazz kits sounded great and were good quality within it's price range...however....don't compare them to these drums...these blow the catalina jazz kits to hell , sound and quality wise..yamaha make fine drums and so do grestch , but there's no comparison between the 2...yes, they're more expensive, but are worth every penny..cool kit, sponsored by an even cooler drummer !
well im no expert but i expected better from this, i think the orange kit looks amazing and i expected it to sound just as good but these drums sound cheap to me. I've played tons of kits and this isn't a sound i'd be happy with. Maybe its the recording or the heads or the tuning, or me, who knows? I just thought i would hear something with a bit more resonance and tone. I like the sound of the kick to an extent but i dont think this vid will do yamaha any favours as a promo for their new kit.
@toddy1968 Alright different mahogany good point but I have ears and these don't sound good to me at least the way he tuned them and my Gretsch sounded amazing to me so you cant convince me that I didn't love the sound of my Gretsch kit, I guess we just have a different opinion of what sounds good!
"I highly recommend it... you'll be very happy" (Followed by the saddest face ever). I will probably try them in all honesty though they seem cool. Don't like the tone he has here but I can work with that.
@Monsterdrumma Gretsch I think not.. Catalina clubs are made of crap wood. I had some and I sold them as soon as I relaized that they were cheap crap. These blow them away.
I just ordered Steve's " The Groove is here DVD".... can"t wait to see it!!!!........My whole approach to drumming COMPLETELY changed when I discovered Steve! This is the best steve jordan video on the web. Put him in the title so more people will watch the video. I fell like i just dug up buried treasure!!!
usually the "signature drums" are just about marketing.

are you an influencer for yamaha?

Agreed, and his way to play is just so musical with a BIG twist of swing!!
Sweet drums !!!! Man Steve can groove, love his playing
Fantastic drummer, humble and down to earth.
One of my fav drummers . Well deserved to be on the Stones .
Steve's feel and groove is INCREDIBLE!
His grooves are amazing!
If only more people got this man. They'll make kicks as deep as tunnels and never find the light.
I love the way he says " And it is gorgeous" like you have no say in it. "YOU'LL BE VERY HAPPY"
Gotta love my club customs, 24” orchestral ride, and 17” prototype hats!
Diggin the brown mat finish.
lol, I like how his bottom hi-hat cymbal turned inside out towards the end of the video. That's probably why you don't see very many stock 17" hi-hats.
Its cuz the bottom is too thin
They made “real” sets for him later on.
I have a Zildjian version.
he's so freakin' sick! :D I've got the biggest smile covering my face when I see this video!
Steve Jordan = Truth In Drumming
Awesome drums. Awesome drummer. Saw him for the first time many years ago on the Letterman Show when he had dreds.
@toddy1968 - Yamaha club customs are build from Indonesian KAPUR wood , this wood is also used in the Yamaha top range PHP drums line ( together with Jatoba (brasilian wood, and maple or ash ) !

I shouldn't watch drum vids at night anymore, makes me want to drum sooo bad when I know I can't...
FalanxProducing and then when you could play, not motivated at all. Haha. Hate it
Change home
@tophertube His regular setup is listed on his wikipedia page. looks like 17 paiste traditional thin crashes.
My hero!
Steve is so funky, it would be nice to see what the club custom snare was like though
this ad is mostly selling the snare, which isn't the standard offering for the club custom kit.
@harrypar1 I never used Kapur before but from this video I like the way it sounds.
I'm a purpleheart fan BTW...
@toddy1968 I had the catalina be bop kit before and loved it and mahogony has never been considered a crap wood! I do like Yamaha drums a lot but these just don't sound that good to me however I do love the sound of the Many Katche kit but once again they are made of mahogony!
Sure is gorgeous ❤️

Nice groove!
@theman82 I think the toms sound weak because he has them tuned fairly high, fitting with more of an older sound he usually goes for.
...and I'm very excited about it. Tst.
YES TOTALLY WHAT I WISHED YAMAHA WOULD MAKE!
My thoughts exactly.
@leeyatding there sure will be....infact when these drums are ready to be sold and ordered, the only way you can order is to select you own drum specifications...they dont sell them in set specifications! i want a 13 snare,10,14,15 tom and 20 bass!!!!
More like:
1: Make it look look better than Ludwig (paint)
2: Mike it sound better than Ludwig (Yamaha)
Mission accomplished!
I think I would buy anything Steve Jordan was selling
The kick is really punchy. Toms are thin sounding, like a vintage Rogers sound. Orange swirl looks great.
i will buy immediately if there is 12, 14, 16 tom and 18 bass drum config
Omg That Snare!
OMG! You're right. It was inverted! Dang!
aha i looked it up... he uses two paiste 17" traditional crashes as hi hats i think they sound awesome xD
great video...steve jordan is a fantastic musician! does anyone know if thats a club custom snare or a different one?
Fuck it im taking up the drums and this guy is my idol !
If i ever play one one hundredth as good as him i will die a happy man.
How can you compress the audio like that? The beautiful dynamics of the kit are lost this way. Destructive. Steve Jordan is a great drummer, he deserve's more dynamics!
@harrypar1 Also Steve has the kit tuned pretty high...I'm sure he can get the low's out if he tuned the kit lower.
Mark my words, I am buying this. How much does this cost?
Danny Shipley A lot.
STEVE JORDAN!!!!!!!!!!!
3:03 is his bottom hi hat cymbal inverted?! thats some heavy stomping
nice drumming on scofield's electric outlet
i love the steve jordan! love the orange kit color. not so much the tom sounds. to tight n high fer my liking. but hey thats why they put erasers on the lawnmower.
Nerds have Chuck Norris, drummers have Steve Jordan!
@Moog168 I guess I have to give kapur a second chance.... although I'm a maple fan
did his bottom hat invert at the end there?!
would his playing on the hihat around 2:00 be the moeler technique??
That's a tasty bass drum.
At 3:15 there's something weird with the bottom of the hi-hat.
Hero!
@froobss the snare looks like his signaturesnare
You can't get any funkier than M. Jordan
Killer.
What are the 18"hihats he is using at the end, the bottom cymbal seems to be inverted like a china.
Also what is the price point of the kit he is playing?
If this kit is so good why is he not using the same snare in the video? I do like some of the finishes. something new and different
is it just me or is his bottom hi hat inverted at the end??????????
aahhh yeeeah..hear the drummer get wicked, hear the drummer get, a -hear the drummer get, a hear the drummer get wicked !
I've never seen a bottom hi hat inverted while playing.
I own an oak custom, if I don't want to blow out the scene, I just play softer with dynamics, even if they say that Oaks are very loud.
so big and thin, it just folded under the pressure of Steve's godly foot
!!! was he playing this only for yamaha or at some sort of club or gig ?
Hello Steve, How can I reach you ? I am looking forca producer
Wow, what kind of Cymbals are these ??
I cant tell. Does he play a lot rim shots?
SJ: "It was designed after a few requests that I had a few years ago when I came to Japan"
You can bet your bollocks to a barndance those requests were;
1: Make it look like a Ludwig
2: Make it sound like a Ludwig
;)
@nouseforaname777 yeah, and its not overpriced either.
@Adudewithastick - 22 " - 15 " !
@harrypar1 Oh I'm not saying I play hard either I owe a Yamaha Musashi snare which is oak as well but some drums are just super sensitive and you don't have to play hard for them to project.
and again Imagine the toms in a lower tuning Steve has his toms at a fairly high tuning.
honestly i think ludwigs are just as good. i personally like ludwigs more just bc of the ride arm that attaches to the bass drum haha
what snare is this????????
@ElTchibo1 You mean amazing
i bet that if you give this kit to terry debozzio he's not able to do even half of what this man does with it. Awesome drummer Steve..
@jonathanroosevelt hell yeah
His Bottomcymbal from the hihat has bent at the end...
2:55
His hi-hat bottom inverted D:
i'm more interested in the snare than the set
did you know hes 56 years old?? the dude looks 30!
@2:21 is a kick on PHX which are too loud
2:04-2:20.
who will loose the staring contest. steve or the hi hats.
@gshdrums Only, it foes
@Monsterdrumma i have to say that i've always been a fan of gretsch drums, and have always thought the catalina jazz kits sounded great and were good quality within it's price range...however....don't compare them to these drums...these blow the catalina jazz kits to hell , sound and quality wise..yamaha make fine drums and so do grestch , but there's no comparison between the 2...yes, they're more expensive, but are worth every penny..cool kit, sponsored by an even cooler drummer !
you're confusing a high jazzy tuning with a ringy drum
Zach Dresser lol what
well im no expert but i expected better from this, i think the orange kit looks amazing and i expected it to sound just as good but these drums sound cheap to me. Sticks and Stones - John Scofield, Ray Charles cover
"I highly recommend it... you'll be very happy" (Followed by the saddest face ever). I will probably try them in all honesty though they seem cool. Don't like the tone he has here but I can work with that.
hi hat flipped inside out 2:54
Love Steve Jordan however I don't like the Tom sound in this vid.
@Monsterdrumma Gretsch I think not.. Catalina clubs are made of crap wood. I had some and I sold them as soon as I relaized that they were cheap crap. These blow them away.
2:54 on, his bottom hi-hat is destroyed. This guy does not fuck around.
@2:00 tasty!!
