I've been saying for years that Sam Lake is a Kojima level auteur, it's nice he is finally getting celebrated the way he deserves. Max Payne1+2 remake is my most anticipated title
If anyone from Remedy sees this, please push to get Ilka Villi as Alan Wake in whatever live adaptation comes from Annapurna, I don't doubt other actors could do the character justice, but Ilka is just there, he quite literally perfect for the role
It's my understanding that the plan is to make audiovisual works set in the Remedy Universe rather than just retreads of Alan Wake and Control and such (although that would also be cool; it'd let people who can't play games experience those stories), meaning Alan and Jesse themselves are not likely to be the leads. Unless Ilkka and Courtney don't want to be involved in these productions and stick to the games, it's still going to fucking hurt to see anyone other than them as Alan or Jesse. I'm... cautiously optimistic, still.

Once I understood how to properly navigate the map, I was locked in and absolutely hooked until I pushed thru to completion. The way the building gets so expansive caught me off gaurd and i was eager to explore every nook n cranny. What a RIDE man! 🔥🔥🔥🎮

Control has to be the biggest random discovery I had ever have in my life after my brother in law forgot an assassins creed disk at my house back in 2007. I bought Control on discount at the start of the pandemic just to have something to play and was totally hooked to the game and the story. I had no idea that The creators were the same as Alan Wake (a game I played when I was a teenager) so when I got the reference it blew my mind!
I loved Max Payne 1 + 2 and then fell out of touch with Remedy. Herald of Darkness actually got my attention so much I decided to play Alan Wake 1, which had been collecting dust in my Steam library. Then American Nightmare. Then Control. Then Quantum Break. Then Alan Wake 2. And I am so glad I did them in that order (even though I should have done QB before Control haha). Now I'm a massive fan. I finally bought D Rally on Steam this year after watching the cutscenes and realizing that it has deceptively ongoing influence in the series (You have been warned!)

@@azoth7756 to me it looks like you just don't pay attention when you play. In Remedy games, story itself is a bit of a puzzle that the player needs to put together to see the full picture. Although it was more straightforward in AW 2.
I’ve played control so many times. The beauty of that game is that it’s almost “arcade” like, the pace is perfect if you just want to pick it up and do cool stuff.
That musical in AW2 is what I consider peak of art direction. Beyond obsessed with that part of the game, the joy that I felt while I was playing that part made me emotional, we love you Sam and Remedy team!
I absolutely ADORED the narrative and universe of Control. The fact it was connected to Alan Wake blew my mind, and the whole AWE aspect just made everything click. It was one of the best games of that year, and the overarching universe/story is so damn cool. Can't wait for more with Control 2!!

Sam Lake and Remedy deserve so much more praise & appreciation than they get, because I remember replaying Alan Wake six times in a row when it first came out in 2010, and when I tried talking to other kids about it, they hadn't even heard of it. Now they are getting bigger, but still though. This universe they've created is phenomenal 🙌
It's just so good to see a passionate artist with such creativity and drive in a world where studios and publishers bend the knee to stakeholders to push out a 'product' whether it's ready or not, or if it's even good.

There are plenty of transmedia parallels to be found, but I feel like Sam finds a better, cohesive balance of the weirdness and themes. I've played nearly everything Remedy has put out and far less of Kojima's work, tbf.
Max payne 1 was brutal, real and genuine. I was too young to play it at the time but it opened my mind to how deep, dark and difficult games could be and made me hopeful that i could enjoy games as an adult when i grew up. And i can say now as an old man my younger self was right. I still enjoy gaming to this day. Max payne 3 was amazing as well. One of my favorite playthroughs of all time
A friend recommended Control. I just finished the main quest and I'm going through the dlc and side quests. What a FANTASTIC game! I loved Alan Wake. Both these games are creative and fresh which I applaud in this age of the reboot/rehash/retread/re🤮. Keep up the good work!

Heady storytelling, unique take on time travel, Remedy's trademark mix of storytelling mediums...but also disjointed and messy. The reading material especially was WAY too long for a game. Squint hard and you can see how Control refined all those defects into truly great gameplay.
Of course he's having a coffee in this interview 😂, but seriously I absolutely adore Remedy's games, and Sam Lake is a phenomenal creative director. Seeing Remedy's games from the past few years, I feel like this is their "renaissance" period.

I agree. However I just haven't bought Alan Wake 2 because of how it was released. I'm only now considering getting it now it's got a physical release. But yeah, honestly the digital only and Epic store only (on PC) launch really hurt the game imo.
Since the release of Max Payne 1, Remedy is my most trusted games developer. I purchased and played every game and so far was never truly disappointed. Two other studios have come into my radar, BlueTwelve with "Stray" and Asobo with their "Plague Tale" game series. If both can provide games on the same constant quality like Remedy did, gaming as story telling device has a bright future.
Im sad to see no mention of Quantum Break. That game firmly belongs in the connected universe of Alan Wake and Control; it even birthed their current rendering tech used on both other games.

I hope Remedy manages to get the rights to Quantum Break back from Microsoft. That was one of the most underrated and amazing game ever made. Remedy is one of the very the best single player game developers , i still think Jesse Faden is the most fun protagonist to play in any game. The Northlight Engine and the entire team is just amazing.

Microsoft! Please please please sell the Quantum Break I.P. back to Remedy! They would clearly love to dip back into it, but seems they just aren't going to as long as you own it. I do hope they find a way to link max payne to the interconnected remedyverse. I mean they could say that max's ability to slow down time is a parautilitarian ability and have an extended ending for MP2 where max is confronted by the FBC about his abilities. or even more subtle things like being able to find alan wake's alex casey books in the game.
I actually started playing both Alan Wake 2 and Control around the same time not even knowing their connection, so I was super psyched to find out how linked they are. Currently stuck on one part in AW2 atm. Lol.
No secrets, but it is something cool - Remedy's whiteboards and plot boards and such aren't CGI. They actually make them with real markers and sticky notes and then scan them. It's extremely cool that they go that extra mile.
I really appreciate Sam Lake and Remedy’s willingness to innovate. The universe they’re creating is definitely lynchian but so unique in its own right! I really hope they get the commercial success they deserve to keep making games as entertaining as they are works of art

I bought Alan Wake 2, and Control twice each, one for PS5 and one for PC. I really wish them success, they make the best games at the moment.
Look up how to hex edit the PC version to restore the PS4 content. It's really nice stuff and takes 5 minutes.

Sam Lake is one of the only active writers today that I absolutely look up to.

Prepare to play it twice. The Final Draft "New Game+" mode is absolutely worth it. Esp if you're a Control fan.

@Slask7 Yes. It can't compete with the Call of Duties and Fifa's in the world. I even read people say AW2 was crap, I mean, FU, you just don't understand the game.... gaming and it's community is a mess nowadays...

Just beat foundation finally and ready to start alan wake 2. The stories in these games get me so good. Feels like some altered x-files thing

Max Payne remakes would be be amazing. Grew up playing those.. that was my first story driven game and I was like 12 lol totally trippy but fun.
Sadly, voice actor of Max Payne and veteran of Remedy games, James McCaffrey passed away. Never will be the same without him
Remedy has quickly become my favorite studio since control, aw2 only cemented it. I hope more people play and buy these new games when they come out cause they deserve on the highest success
I agree. However I just haven't bought Alan Wake 2 because of how it was released. I'm only now considering getting it now it's got a physical release. But yeah, honestly the digital only and Epic store only (on PC) launch really hurt the game imo.
Remedy produces my favourite games, they know how to make story driven games, and I hope Remedy will get the attention they truly deserve

Since the release of Max Payne 1, Remedy is my most trusted games developer. I purchased and played every game and so far was never truly disappointed. Two other studios have come into my radar, BlueTwelve with "Stray" and Asobo with their "Plague Tale" game series. If both can provide games on the same constant quality like Remedy did, gaming as story telling device has a bright future.

Im sad to see no mention of Quantum Break. That game firmly belongs in the connected universe of Alan Wake and Control; it even birthed their current rendering tech used on both other games.

I also see traces of Kubrick and Lovecraft in his storytelling, albeit less cynical and more hopeful than either of them.

I hope Remedy manages to get the rights to Quantum Break back from Microsoft. That was one of the most underrated and amazing game ever made. Remedy is one of the very the best single player game developers , i still think Jesse Faden is the most fun protagonist to play in any game. The Northlight Engine and the entire team is just amazing.

No mentioning of Quantum Break? Thats a stellar game is also exceptional and very original. Very interesting story, good science, great actors, fun fighting and world mechanics, very replayable. Should have a sequel!
They clearly have a lot of love for it; one of the dlc adventures is basically a whole tribute with it, implying tim breaker and Jesse fayden will meet just like Jack and Beth!
Only problem is they can't directly do quantum break because Microsoft owns the rights, not remedy... But we can dream

Microsoft! Please please please sell the Quantum Break I.P. back to Remedy! They would clearly love to dip back into it, but seems they just aren't going to as long as you own it. I think we would all love to see that world fully folded into the Remedy Connected Universe without leaning on legally ambiguous nods and winks.
I for one love how they absolutely tap danced on the legal lines with Time Breaker.

I do hope they find a way to link max payne to the interconnected remedyverse. I mean they could say that max's ability to slow down time is a parautilitarian ability and have an extended ending for MP2 where max is confronted by the FBC about his abilities. or even more subtle things like being able to find alan wake's alex casey books in the game.
God bless their souls, Remedy is one of the few Gaming Companies who care about how we fans feel. I can't wait for Max Payne to come back.
I actually started playing both Alan Wake 2 and Control around the same time not even knowing their connection, so I was super psyched to find out how linked they are. Currently stuck on one part in AW2 atm. Lol.

No secrets, but it is something cool - Remedy's whiteboards and plot boards and such aren't CGI. They actually make them with real markers and sticky notes and then scan them. It's extremely cool that they go that extra mile.

I really appreciate Sam Lake and Remedy’s willingness to innovate. The universe they’re creating is definitely lynchian but so unique in its own right! I really hope they get the commercial success they deserve to keep making games as entertaining as they are works of art
