  • Howdy Folks! A little over a year ago I purchased a Helikon-tex Swagman Roll. After using the Swagman Roll through most of the past year (extensively throughout the Summer) I feel I have used it enough to provide an honest and informed review of it.
This video will demonstrate all of the advertised uses of the Swagman Roll. I discuss in detail the features I have used frequently and share my thoughts based on my experiences with The Swagman Roll.
As with all of my reviews, I pull no punches and provide an honest critique based on my personal experiences through extensive use.

Although I'm still not 100 percent sure I'll buy a swagman roll, this is a great demonstration and has convinced me of the advantages it provides. Let's just say I wouldn't be mad if one of these ended up under the Christmas tree this year.

John, this was really an excellent review. The Swagman Roll seems to be a very well thought-out, versatile piece of kit. Thanks for a thorough walk-through of all it's features and capabilities.

This looks like a versatile piece of kit that could save your life or make camping much more comfortable at the very least. Always appreciate your historical knowledge on the products you review. Thank you John for your videos.

The USGI woobie has to be the most overrated surplus gear made. It's just not that good. The tie strings are mediocre. It's not water resistant. It doesn't compress well, and it's just not warm at all.

Good demo. I bought their lighter & cheaper version & it is a great addition to my motorcycle touring kit along with a hammock & tarp here in Australia. Thanks for sharing.

Love my swagman, use it mostly as a sleeping bag . Surprisingly warm. I often use it over another bag in colder weather including -4c under a tarp with a fire alongside.

Well John, you have given the most thorough review on this product I have seen so far on the internet. I ordered one today. I watched Dave Canterbury and Cpl.'s Corner, and you give the Swagman high praise. That is saying something. I will let you know how it works out for me personally. I have a feeling I will love it. I never pulled the trigger on one of these before, because I thought it was to expensive for a fancy poncho liner. However, I do love the poncho liner. Great video.

very informative john. really like your presentation style. yes, nylon + heat is not a good combination, as i found out ... a couple of home repairs later and my poncho is back - albeit not quite "as new" as before ... but lead to a fundamental learning experience. no other damage (luckily) - you live and learn. thanks for the excellent vlog.

After eyeing one of these up for the past 3 years I finally bucked up and bought one. I spend a lot of time rucking on the west coast shore and this should be an absolute boon to my kit

Thank you for the review, I agree with you. The sleeping bag width is narrow at 27 inches, and the front pocket needs a storm flap, but overall, it is fantastic. I actually take this with me to my hotel room, as an extra blanket.

Excellent Review video. I run 6 foot tall with broad belly, shoulders slid. Might work. Poncho over top is darn good idea. I use a GI Poncho over my water resistant/proof hunt suit. And over my over Gortex rain suit. I was directed to you by Renaissance Marine. Not disappointed. Subscribed. Best

that is a well thought out piece of gear. i remember some guys had their poncho liners converted by mama-san with a head-slit. wish i had done that. ive got a couple old west german tanker's sleeping bags that are very similar. the bottoms unzip and you stick your legs out. i love them.

Thanks for showing how to use it as a quilt using the straps. Ordered it. Should be good for nights of stargazing in the Swedish woods. My goal is to replace the sleeping bag (during summer), puffer jacket and blanket with only one item.
