Lingam means phallus, and Shiva is not coming out of it but it's architectural depiction of Shivas phallus. Also Shiva's phallus can clearly be seen. Have you read shiva purana? Your arguments are in fact baseless and you want to fit it in your (western) world view. There are so many idols, artefacts, paintings showing shivling attached to Shiva. There are also historical paintings showing Kali casting on it. Don't forget the scriptural evidence.

Some depictions even clearly show Shiva Linga casted in Kali's yoni. They are found in Rajasthan and Orissa and even in Mathura. Check them out.

Not sure about these Panchabootha sthalas but FYI there are 5 Panchabootha sthalas around Meenakshi Sundrareshwarar temple in Madurai which are located corresponding to the manifestation of PanchaBrahman, ie earth, water, fire & air located in the west, north, south & east respectively while space which corresponds to the zenith but is located in the north. Truly astonishing stuff.
