At corporate restaurants like Applebee's, the hosts have to follow the floor plan/seating chart and seat as fairly as possible. No use tipping them extra since the cover count shows right up on the OpenTable system....and believe you me, most servers are VERY aware of how many tables/covers each co-worker has and when they are up for a table.
I just quit that nonsense today. Worse job... worse conditions.... work you like a slave and cut your tips (host). Can't say enough how horrible restaurant jobs are in general. And my Applebees has had people quitting all the time... can't even keep their managers more than a few months. Total wage theft-having to do the job of 2-3 hosts (often the only one working even when it got slammed on holidays)-worse ever was Mother's Day last year-I was the only one... had to greet/seat and bus tables while people were coming in groups coming right after each other... and had to check vax cards... And they kept me as host since 2018... Might bring a lawsuit... Hope that place goes out of business. Basically fast food crap presented semi fancy with a bunch of cheap bargain hunters that only come for free stuff... discounts... more than half don't tip servers... totally trash the tables/surrounding area. I really don't like kids and old people in general after working there. Fellow employees were all cool, but Applebees will not hesitate to screw you if someone complains... and the ones that do are often pros that do it to get free appetizers/meals/desserts. Every day was so sore-always working (also usually no breaks). Hard to sleep (also have full time job) and lots of aggreviation and anxiety. I feel like I'm going on vacation being free. Did I mention how bad it was? hahaha Glad I have my investment money paying off which will have me totally job free this summer I think and can travel and do photography training, hypnosis, and so many other things I've planned.
Did you end up getting real pink eye after the Tabasco sauce??? I had pink eye before and just had a dr note instead of that whole ordeal.... get some MD friends too perhaps? Ohhh and being nice is imperative!!! I worked at MCDONALD’s in my high school days. Let’s just say that the friendlier you are... the faster I cooked your Big Mac and fries 😊
