What if the person who stole your song makes 20 million off your song, is 150k still the most you can get back?

Self-publishing from what I have read is a huge amount of work. Making great music is already a huge amount of work. As much as we don't like it it is nearly always better to focus on one thing. A similar thing is agents; agents take a fat %; who wants to pay an agent a fat %; well without an agent many or most people who made it big would probably be nowhere.

Hello I here you say administration 10 or 15%! Then you went to 50%?! Was that a mistake or what’s the difference?! Thanks in advance!

I agree that these podcasts are very helpful. Thank you for setting aside time to make them, Jody! I submitted another ten-song collection to the Copyright Office at the Library of Congress yesterday. It now costs $85.

Was that price for the entire 10 song collection? Or do they stick you for each one?

@@WE.ARE138 As long as the songs are unpublished, you can use this rate for a collection of up to ten songs.

Just got my first MLC statement yesterday. I liked Eric Beall's book on self-publishing. I tried Tunecore admin 2011-2013, but found that it wasn't worth giving up a percentage of performance royalties to also collect some streaming royalties.

Yea I am on the fence about diving fully into the business or sticking to being solely creative. MetaData is just so involved. I thought I was doing it right till I saw your masterclass on metadata and I leave so much info out. Determining the sub-genres is a whole skill on its own. But still, no matter which direction one my choose, knowing and understanding the business is a must and a huge advantage.

Definitely a personal choice, if you learn the business but want to focus on creative, you find a publisher to handle the business

Very well presented Jody, Mechanical copyright does seem to be a minefield and you’re explanation has helped my understanding. I look forward to hearing about Copyright protection in the UK and how that applies to the global market.
