Hi Gail. What temperature should I set my brew boiler be for the right coffee temperature? I understand coffee is brewed at 95 - 205 F but the brew boiler temperature doesn't seem to have a direct way to for me to know what the actual brew temperature is. Is there a formula? I like a fairly darker roast. But would like to know both medium roast and dark. Also, I tried measuring 18 grams of coffee grinds and they didn't fit in my portafilter. Are 18 grams for 2 ounces of espresso or more?
So they didn't add the shot timer to the r58? I suppose, like with the pid, they consider the r58 to be the pretty machine, not to be sullied with such things. I'm torn. It would be a nice addition, but then I'd feel I should have waited to buy mine.
I just managed to refine my milk steaming technique enough to start attempting latte art. Well, I use half and half, actually. Hopefully some day I'll reach a point where I can produce some garlic designs. I'm not quite there yet. I think I'm at what might be called the Rorschach test stage at the moment. :-) I currently have a Rancilio Silvia, and hope to upgrade to one of the Rocket machines some day. Being right handed, the steam wand on the right on the Sylvia fills quite natural. I like holding the milk pitcher handle in my right hand and controlling the steam valve with my left hand. I'm sure I could get used to having the steam wand on the left. Has Rocket ever considered making some right handed machines?
Showing the internal build, the wiring and the cooper tubing shows the superior construction that will pay dividends in a longer service life than automatic machines that cost nearly as much as the R58. Thank you Gale, although a PID with shot timer would be a terrific option to have. I like all the accessories that have the Rocket logo, I will certainly keep this machine in mind when I buy my next expresso machine.
Hi, Thank you for the information. I need to pack it up to store then cargo transported and store again for a couple of months. Please share if you like on how to preps the R 58 for the process, thank you in advance, regards D.
Doula Main thing is you must drain both reservoirs (instructions in the manual, or TH-cam), before storage or travel. If you don’t, you risk getting water on the circuit board (possibly shorting out).
Great review! :) Just one question though...is this machine good enough for a small cafe? I mean how many shots can it brew continuously in say half an hour? I need a machine for a small cafe and am stuck deciding between a two group or single group machine.
Do a Bialetti review!! People don’t need to break the bank to make great espresso, a tried and true method around since WWI! Drink coffee like the GI’s did during the worlds wars.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Jose Elisha Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you Gail, you do some great reviews, I have watched lots over the past few years. I would love to get a Rocket R58, but it is quite a big investment, but worth it I think; if one wants all the control over pressure and temperature. I'm saving up ! . However, I have also seen the Fracino , which is the only manufacturer of Espresso machines in the UK, where I am, and it would be just great if you could do a detailed review of the Fracino Bambino. It retails at $1442 , which is almost half the cost, but seems a very good substitute for the Rocket R58, not quite as beautiful, but I think would be worth a review and comparison if you can organise this. Please also show some Maccihato making, my favourite. That would be just great! www.fracino.com/bambino.html. Keep up the great work that you do ! all the best, Jonathan
...I just verbally (to myself, not out loud!) count seconds -- surprisingly accurate really. Have to: My machine doesn't have a shot-timer. But really, I don't see it as any downside at all: There not a exact number of seconds for all shots, just a "time window" you want be be in. Still, sometimes my shots run up to 40s as it's not ONLY the timing I need to track, it's the volume of espresso coming out and the behavior of the "tiger tail" -- and looking for blonding. All those things together tell me when to end the shot. So for me (and my VBM Super HX Domobar espresso machine), I'm somewhere in the 30-40 seconds zone. Note: I start counting when I lift the brewing handle...other people start counting at the first drip of coffee coming out of the portafilter. Your choice. -- BR
It's an electric timer that tells you how long the machine has been brewing for. Sometimes (but not on this machine) it can stop brewing after a certain time.
i hope she never retires. i love her. late art 13 years whats the rush. sounds like me haha
Gail u r the best!
Love your reviews,

Can the r58 handle a small cafe?
Hi Gail, what is the difference between the first version and the V2 ?

Keep trying on the latte art Gail. We appreciate you regardless. Great review.

Still an external PID/Display? Come on Rocket it's 2019!
No shot timer nor pressure control either! So nothing new.
Curious what the noise level of this machine is in db?
rxallan20 I’d say about 50dB SPL. It’s pretty quiet.
@@VoxPhD that would be about where I put it. I haven't measured it, but the steam wand its definitely noisier than the espresso pump.
How much costit this machine please
Microsoft makes rags now? Lol 😆

Start the extraction right after you get that portafilter in. Your coffee is burning in the group head.
The group head or shower screen should not be touching the coffee. Please enjoy the videos without feeling the need to post this on every one.
False
Infamous Martin false what? Been doing this job for 20 years, never met anyone with 10% of my standards.
