No iOS 17 for the final "Plus" home button iPhone - it's got no direct successor, and remains highly coveted in 2023 because of it. Is it worth buying, keeping, upgrading from? Idk man, I just work here.
Still, it's a pretty great phone that holds up fantastically considering the age- couldn't ask for a better end to an era.

I love my 8+ so much and I absolutely RAGED when I found out it wasn‘t gonna get iOS 17. But it isn’t gonna stop me from using it as long as I can. It’s holding up so strong, 84% battery health, survived at least 3 drops (one without case), has some minor scratches on the screen because I have no screen protector but I don’t care, I find it very aesthetic, I love the homebutton, it does everything I want, the list goes on… I‘m just an average almost 16 year old and this phone is perfect for me. I just got a new case and I love it. My phone doesn’t struggle to do anything I expect from it. It does everything fast and convenient. 8, 8+ and X deserved iOS 17…

I got an 8 Plus at launch and used it faithfully for 3 years until I was able to upgrade to an XR. Absolutely loved it, it ran blazing fast all the time back then, no updates ever slowed it down that I could notice, battery lasted all day and I care a lot about how a phone sounds music wise, it sounded great for that. One of my favorite phones ever, I was honestly sad to have to sell it on to be able to afford the XR. And considering the 6s ran iOS 9-15, I feel like the 8 series definitely should've died on iOS 17, not 16, but that's Apple for you I guess lol.

A11 devices are predetermined to be legacy since 2018 because of their Neural Engine, I’m sure Apple realized this sooner but had no way to end their updates immediately. With A12 Bionic, it had 8 core Neural Engine capable of those new iOS 15-16 things, the iPhone 8/X despite a year older didn’t got those features and so on. iOS 17 on 8 core Neural Engine devices also didn’t get the new auto correct feature, it needs 16 core or A14 Bionic and newer, I would say avoid iPhone 11 or older if you’d upgrade because of the specs.

The battery would die at halfway full so I looked in settings and it does need a battery replacement so going to get that done around $100. I actually love the home button and I had missed it although the size of the phone is a bit too big when doing things like texting but I had always had a pop socket on it. I’m still using my 8 plus as my full time phone. I did get a free iPhone 11 from switching to metro by T-Mobile and I use the 11 for my TH-cam channel but I love the big screen and home button of my 8 plus. I just replaced the original battery this year. The A11 Bionic chip is still super fast. My 8 plus handles just about everything without issue. I do notice once in awhile a hiccup when I’m really taxing the phone. Like yesterday, I was uploading a TH-cam video, (sent over from my 11) and I was delivering food (Uber eats) and I had the navigation going all at the same time. The 8 plus got hot and slowed down but still Kept going!
I’m considering buying a Pre-Owned 12 pro max after the 15’s launch. (I refuse to pay over $1000 for a phone) I might consider the 15 plus depending on the camera specs.
Even after I purchase a newer phone either this year or next primarily for my TH-cam channel, I was still keep my beloved 8 plus as a 2nd phone!

I purchased my iPhone 8 Plus 256gb Gold in 2017 upon release, and it was my first iPhone ever as I was a Samsung Galaxy Note person. I found that the iPhone 8 Plus was a pretty good phone in the 3 years I had it and today it is still going strong and my wife does not want to part with it at all. Not even to upgrade to my iPhone 11 Pro Max that has better tech.
I handed the iPhone 8 Plus down to my wife in 2020 just weeks before the release of the iPhone 12, but I got myself a iPhone 11 Pro Max 256gb Gold instead as it was the last iPhone to have a half decent Charger supplied, and i also felt that the iPhone 12 was not for me.
Now I am looking at the differences between my current 11 Pro Max to the new 15 Pro Max and from what I have seen there is a large number of extra features I do not have at present. The USB-C Charging Port is a game changer, and so are the Cameras.
I have found myself using my iPhone 11 Pro Max to take digital photos and yet i own a Nikon DSLR camera, and that is probably out of convenance.
Going back to the iPhone 8 Plus, it is a shame Apple are not doing the regular updates from IOS 17 on for this is the LAST iPhone that has a Home Button.

This phone is the first apple and iphone device i have ever used personally.
I got it second hand more than two years ago and honestly i loved it and i was really impressed.
iphones aren't common where i live and are a bit overpriced(more than usual) so getting this from a friend who does tech work and trading felt pretty lucky.
My battery is at like 75% and it's showing worse battery life obvi but still runs pretty well, incredibly fast and i was really satisfied with my first even iphone.
Years ago when the pandemic started i still kinda lowkey hated apple but started hating them less, eventually i found ur channel and i started really liking them

My mum has been using the 8 Plus since 2019 and it still works like new and lag is rare to see still because she never uses it hours on a daily basis.. I use to own a Huawei mate 10 phone from late 2018 until last week and recently bought the Galaxy s20 fe model. I had to quickly buy phone for a good price quick because my Huawei has been starting to show glitches on the screen and bad battery changes, cameras no longer working correctly, being unsupported for almost 3 years and the amount of times i've been on it. The s20 fe is 4 years old now which is crazy to think but as long as it works for a good year or so then i'll try get a more future proof phone by that time. I did see a samsung s21 for a bit more than the s20 fe but i did learn that the difference between the s20 fe and the original s21 model was minimal for what i want to use it for like the camera, youtube and normal use. I wouldn't see the samsung s10 or the s9 that old yet either.

Obviously you can get used to an iPhone without it, you can get used to everything, but is a totally different everyday experience, unlock with face, use gestures, i don’t understand why apple didn’t do an iPhone SE with 8 plus case like they did with 8 case. It would be a success. I wish this comment section could reach millions of comments and send it to Apple

Got this phone soon after it's release. Still using it. Got a little obsessive about preserving battery health and after almost 6 years, it's just now dropped below 80% of its original capacity. It was the best battery life for an iPhone at the time, but I'm definitely looking forward to the much improve battery life on more recent models. Really liked the dual pane iOS apps it had.... but they have since removed that feature. Can't scroll through messages, emails or contacts and view one at the same time anymore. Kind of a bummer. Software focus shifted to the notched phones I guess. Anyway, great phone.

I still use my original 8 and in my opinion I think it shouldn’t have even gotten iOS 16 but that might just be my phone specifically. Battery life is a joke compared to how it was on previous updates and I think iOS 16 is a decent stop after getting 6 major versions of iOS. I’ll probably get a new phone soon (partially because my back glass is obliterated) so I don’t mind losing support. It was great towards the beginning but had a quick drop off around iOS 15-16.

I don’t notice much is speed differences. No lag or loading issues.
Camera seems good but I don’t use it often.
The notches on the screen and touch will take a few day to get used to but Touch ID is amazing.
The screen isn’t as great but again doesn’t bother me. TH-cam looks fine no complaints.
Overall I’m happy with it after a full days use. It’s a shame about the iOS it would have been nice to upgrade but I will definitely get a couple years out of this phone. It came with a new battery and no marks on it at all. In the box with everything feels brand new.

I've had the 8 Plus since 2018, and it has been such an excellent phone in virtually every way: the screen size is large enough to comfortably watch videos, the battery life (was) insanely good, the wireless charging was a game-changer for me, the cameras still take pretty damn good pictures and videos, and TouchID is the second best feature Apple ever killed off from the iPhone, rip headphone jack.
I thought of upgrading to the 12, 13, and 14 when they all came out, however I could never stomach doing so was the 8 Plus has continued to serve every need that I have of it. So...why am I upgrading to the 15? 64gb > 128gb , the brighter OLED display, and USB-C are big reasons. But the largest one is: my 8 Plus is in rough shape with its back panel being cracked with some pieces of the glass completely missing, battery life is getting worse every day, and iOS 17 is not coming to the 8 Plus. To me it's worth more of my money to buy a new phone that will last another 5+ years than spend money on an unsupported phone to get a back panel and battery replacement. It's time to move on.
