- Deanna and her husband were still in bed when they started getting multiple Motion Alerts from their Ring Video Doorbell.“We couldn't figure out who would be at our door so early in the morning,” says Deanna. “I picked up my phone, opened the app, and much to my surprise, we had the most adorable little visitor peering directly into the camera!”The couple was stunned to see a hummingbird hover right in front of the camera. “It was just so remarkable and such an absolute joy! That's exactly it! Mine come to the window and buzz back and forth and I usually immediately run out to fill it! Smart birds!

I watch these beauties up close every day from my kitchen window. Have many feeders out with homemade nectar. Please don't harm them with that red stuff the stores sell.

For those interested, a nectar recipe is one cup white sugar dissolved into one cup boiling water then topped off with four cups plain water totaling five cups water plus one cup sugar. Add no dyes! Let cool. Fill feeders. Voila! It's that easy!

Living in Pa I can't ever remember seeing a hummingbird with snow still on the ground.
Hummingbirds migrate, but I agree with you - this little bird risked a seriously empty belly & energy drop if it didn't find flowers quickly.

So my step mom has hummingbird feeders on the deck. And apparently her sugar water is so good that, I kid you not, we get swarms of hummingbirds fighting each other for the water. I've literally had to duck several times so I wouldn't get hit in the head by a hummingbird.
