    From the bottom of the falls the trail goes downstream and there is a bridge over the creek. You can take the bridge and trail beyond but I don't know where it goes. If you stay on the trail down stream, you will eventually come to Lake Brittan.

    If you're looking for a good, sit down breakfast, the original Black Bear Diner is in Mt Shasta City.
    And, though not a waterfall, the Sacramento River bubbles out of the ground in the city park at the north end of town, off of Old US-99

    I came up from Utah last early September cause of the Dixie fire postponing my plans in July. I only hiked and saw Burney Falls and the Redding area due to the hazy skies that really put a damper on things but the falls were epic. I would def rate them No. 1 and No. 2 would be Middle McCloud Falls 3. that first one then Lower McCloud Falls, 5. Hedge something Falls lol and lastly, Upper McCloud Falls.

    • @californiathroughmylens
      @californiathroughmylens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a long drive from Yosemite. Yosemite has some of the best waterfalls in the state. I hope you have fun!

    • @skysurfer5cva
      @skysurfer5cva 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yosemite is great all year, but if waterfalls are your object September is a poor time to visit. Yosemite's waterfalls peak in the spring when runoff from snow melt peaks. By September, all of Yosemite's waterfalls have greatly reduced flow and some can be dry (including world famous Yosemite Falls, which has a modestly-sized and rocky watershed). From about mid-April to mid-October, Yosemite gets very little rain with which to recharge its waterfalls. BTW, Yosemite is an easy day trip for me and I have visited more than 200 times in my life and in all seasons. The best time for Yosemite's waterfalls is typically April to June, with the peak usually being in mid- to late-May. September is a good time to hike because the crowds and bugs (sometimes one in the same 🙂) are mostly gone.
      Burney Falls, on the other hand, *** should be *** more consistent. Northern California gets a bit more rain in the summer than Central and Southern California (Yosemite and Magic Mountain, respectively), Burney Falls has a fairly large watershed, and a large portion of Burney's flow is underground via passages in old lava flows. However, I have only visited Burney Falls in late-spring through mid-summer, so I can't tell you what September there will be like.
      HOWEVER, as Josh said, Burney Falls is a LONG way from where you will be. It's not even close to being day-tripable. According to my old copy of Microsoft Streets and Trips:
      -- From Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita to Yosemite Valley is 280 miles (450 km) and the drive takes about 4 hr 40 min, not including stops along the way.
      -- From Yosemite Valley to Burney Falls is 390 miles (630 km) and the drive takes about 6 hr 25 min, not including stops.
      -- From Magic Mountain to Burney Falls with no stop in Yosemite is 575 miles (925 km) and the drive takes about 8 hr 15 min, not including stops.
      California is a big place and portions of these drives can have heavy traffic that adds to the time to get places. I suggest you rethink how much ground you want to cover. Yosemite and Burney Falls are definitely two of California's "must sees", but trying to do everything in one trip like this is pretty much impossible.

    I visited this falls one time about fifteen years ago and there was a fellow snorkeling in the pond. As I watched him, an Otter came out of the brush just about where this video was shot at 11:15, and entered the water and swam toward the falls. He went by the guy Snorkeling about 15 feet away from each other. I don't think the guy even saw him.

    Hi - thanks so much for posting this. Ironically, I was going to do this exact same trip a couple of weeks ago, but it was in the 90's, so I may do it this weekend. I had the exact same list of falls to visit, with the addition of Mossbrae Falls. Having never visitied any of these falls, I am really excited to make the trip. To help me plan, can you let me know when you went, just so I have an idea of the flow I can expect? I know its been reallly hot there recently - how was it for you? What time in the morning did you head out to Faery, and what time did you return from Burney?
    I was going to finish with a hike to Heart Lake.
    Thanks so much for your videos! The first video I saw of you was the hike up to Mount Tallac, and after seeing that, I knw I had to go. Though challenging, its the one hike I love recommending people. The views are magnificent, and I look forward to doing it again!
    Thanks!

    7:00. The problem with swimming in a place like that is a lot of times people want to suds up and think as long as they use soap advertised as environmentally friendly, it's OK. It's not. Any soap will cause suds, hurting the visual quality and enough of it can cause algae and moss growth which is bad for fish. Also skinny dipping makes it less family friendly.
    That whole area north of Redding was hit hard by the fires that started in 2018. The businesses can really use tourism dollars and are willing to put out extra effort. Don't bother going to Lake Shasta. It looks like the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. And just as dangerous for kids and pets.
