DIY Grow bags!

- Growing potatoes using containers it’s one of my favourite things! They are super productive and take up a really low space which makes it suitable for almost any grow space!
My mum has been a seamstress for more than 3 decades and she taught me how to make grow bags for my garden. It’s super easy if you follow the right steps!
Chitting potatoes means to force them to sprout before they are in the ground. Place them in an egg cartoon with pointy side facing down and round side up. Keep them in a cool, bright area until they sprout.
As a reference you can plant 1-2 potatoes in 5 gallon, 2-4 potatoes in 10 gallon, 4-6 potatoes in 15 gallon.
GROW BAG & POTATOES:
- 100% cotton fabric material or similar
- Sewing machine
- Compost mix
- Chit potatoes
- Mulch (straw or similar)
STEP BY STEP:
- Cut a rectangular of fabric
- Fold it in half
- Sew the open side
- Make an X shape at the bottom
- Turn it inside out
- Fold and sew the upper border

This year was my first garden season. And I grow my potatoes in bags too. I’m ready to harvest the second batch. I’m super excited cause it looks like it will be more potatoes this time. 😊 I will do it definitely again, in plant bags next season. 😊

I love growing potatoes 🥔 & use both in ground, buckets, and bags.
I have even simply put then atop loose soil & cover with thick layer of straw mulch for no digging harvest.
If you plant in rotation there is no reason not to have fresh homegrown potatoes for the majority of the entire year even if your space is limited. Hope you have a nice growing season .
Love love love this channel! I was able to grow some strawberries in 2022 and some sweet paprikas and cherry tomatoes too! They were delicious! It was of course totally amateur level compared to your garden but I did this outside on a small deck terras of a rented flat in a very cold area in the Netherlands so I am proud of the yield I had from my efforts. This year, I would like to grow more, bigger and better things . Definitely looking for inspiration on your channel.😃✨🌷

You can yield more potatoes if u cut the potato where the stems are. Ex: out of 1 potato u can get up to 3 plants. At least that's what I do, and it works. Love ur channel, ty for all the tips.

I did sweet potatoes this way this year and trellised the vines over an arched cattle panel. Worked great. I was wondering if there would be a cost savings to making my own bags.
