We are swiping things up in this video, and discussing serious self-defense options or replacements for firearms. This overview is on the gnarly Spyderco Matriarch 2 with the Emerson wave feature. Put up against the Glock 19 for a sweet compare/contrast.

Love the matriarch!! My defensive preference. I carry it daily and it works with every kind of pant, even yoga pants. It's also very discreet and perfect for conceal carrying. As always great video Matthew ~Ashley

I just got one of these recently and while it isn't my handgun I do feel more confident armed only with it over my other bladed options.

My personal favorite self defense folder is the Cold Steel AK47. Not the slasher and ripper this bad boy is, but it can still slice, and I'd trust that lock for stabbing as well. It also has the wave feature, better than a spring assist imo. I also enjoy that it makes a fantastic utility knife as well.
Great vid as usual, keep it up :)

You don't twist the knife in your pocket to engage the Emerson Wave opening system. Flip the pocket clip to the other side. I have Karambit knives which have the Emerson Wave opening system. The object is to advance the the knife forward in your pocket and the Emerson Wave grabs your pocket and safely opens as it's coming out of your pocket. I just ordered the Matriarch 2 and it's due to arrive tomorrow. The Karambits have an eye at the top of the knife for your index finder to fit in and assist with drawing the knife. the eye is visable when the knife is in your pocket but works like a champ. I'm curious at how well the Emerson Wave system will draw by just grabbing the FRN handle. I'll find out tomorrow. I have yet to see a video where someone is drawing the knife using the Emerson Wave system. Maybe I'll post the next video on the sweet looking knife.
    Thanks for the video
So I have to revise my comment. When I saw this video, I was waiting for my Matriarch 2 to arrive and based my comment on the karambit folding knife I own. As I said above, you do not have to rotate this knife to to engage the Emerson Wave opening system. The difference between drawing the Karambit and the Matriarch 2 is the karambit folding knives with the Emerson Wave technology is drawn by putting your index finger thru the ring attached to the end if the knife and push forward. The Emerson Wave will grab the front of your pocket and open faster than any automatic knife you have. With the Matriarch 2, grip the handle and draw it back. The Emerson Wave will grab the back of your pocket and open once again, faster than any automatic knife you draw, whether OTF or switchblade style. Be observant if you order the Matriarch 2 though. Not sure why Spyderco did this but the original Matriarch 2 does not have the Emerson Wave technology. The Emerson Wave technology was added to the Matriarch 2 and the kept the same name for the knife. Spyderco should came up with a new name or at least called it the Matriarch 2E. "E" being for Emerson. Easy peasy Spyderco so buyer be ware.
    Peace

Wiseman makes a signet ring you can grab for $40, now you can draw forward. Remember that the matriarch2 has the endura handle, keep that in mind when getting a signet ring, spacer, or scales.

Everyone talks about the lethality of this type of blade. Rightly so. It is absolutely wicked. What they don't talk about as much is the ability of this knife, the Civilian, and the Cold Steel Black Talon 2, to end a confrontation quickly and non lethally. You rake this blade across an arm or a forehead, and an attacker will quickly become uninterested in continuing the attack. Stab if you must, but hurt and disable him non lethally if you can. That's my credo when carrying this type of knife. It's the exact opposite when I carry a gun. The situation that demands you fire your gun pretty much demands that you aim for center of mass.

Pienso igual! Es muy buen arma para defensa no letal! Ya que lo más letal son las punzantes

Awesome review, very informative thank you.
Is there a way to install a ring on the end of the handle like a Signet Ring by Wise Men Mfg.? I wonder how this compares to a Cold Steel Black Talon?

You need to market yourself as a voice actor. For real man, you got to seek out an agent.
