- Sonic the Hedgehog collects rings all the time but have we really gotten an answer on what they ARE? I found some interesting info on this I wanted to cover. Hopefully we see more of this explained in Sonic Movie 2.

It's not just convenience stores in Florida that use the Ring Chime. Plenty of convenience stores around America use it, and it is really cool!
I'll never forget when 711 on the east coast started using this as their Cashier sound or the ATM 😂

Shoutout to my local Chevrons, 7/11s, and Rebel gas stations that all use the Sonic Ring Chime. Most goated sound ever.
The reason why several gasstation chains use the ring sound effect for their cashregisters is due to SEGA being owned by segasammy, and they used a POS system that allowed third party software development on them, allowing them to insert custom sounds, etc. It's pretty cool ngl.
You missed a pretty important theory that perfectly explains where the rings come from. Bee Theory™ suggests that rings are formed by honeybees flying in a loop in an attempt to help guide Sonic in the right direction. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

1:20 You don't actually get faster if you have rings, they just protect you from damage.
Depends on the game. Not only can they fill the boost gauge in most of the modern games and give Sonic the power boost in Frontiers, but both Generations via a skill that can be bought in a shop, and Unleashed via game mechanics and ingame dialogue, imply the speed cap is increased when you have rings. Chip even says so in the tutorial, that grabbing rings makes Sonic faster.

If Chaotix is to be believed they're a byproduct of the master emerald, or at least, the chaos rings are.
"The Chaos Rings were formed in the dimensional space created by the Newtrogic High Zone's ancient Special Rings, where the Master Emerald's pillar energy crystallized into six rings."
I just realized, the fact you can fish out a big ring in the Frontiers Big fishing minigame could be a reference to the Power Rings

Strangely enough, SEGA has this rumored mandate where Sonic characters shouldn’t formally handle currency/money in any way. So while he can use it to buy upgrades they don’t 100% confirm rings as currency and avoid topics regarding money. Which is odd 😂

I like the Chaos emerald theory as well, makes sense with how they have kinda teleporty powers (chaos control) it could explain why they vanish when you collect them and that they can also empower sonic (like the emeralds) They're a pretty unique collectible really, having the sheilding and empowering functionality (as opposed to just being a currency like coins) so I understand where the want for an explanation comes from.
Someone might’ve mentioned this but in Knuckles Chaotix they mention how Eggman makes “synthetic Rings” which seems to imply they’re naturally occurring.
And, it also apparently implies that the Echidnas are the ones who made the Rings, if I recall correctly? That may not be true.
Rings would be pretty synonymous with the Chaos Emeralds in terms of power. 🤔 Especially when you realize that the type of stones that the emeralds are (which aren't actually emeralds) are usually found on rings, used for jewelry as a means of showing off your marital status. 💎💍 You could say Sonic is married to the game, hahaha!! 🤣 ... (Kill me. 🙃) There's also the Chaos Rings which are pretty much just power rings coated in chaos energy. 🤷🏾♂️
Everyone knows that the rings in the, “Sonic the Hedgehog”series are meticulously placed there by the bees, Who create said rings to guide sonic on his journey. #BeeTheory

Doesn't sonic call them advanced space technology in the first movie? They might just be the product of some super advanced aliens. Or he could just THINK they're technology and they have a different origin. They're common enough that there's an active galactic society in the movie universe, which is why tails and knuckles have them.
Actually there is Warp rings from Archie sonic comics that is serving the same thing as the movie
My own theory is that the Sonic universe has a fifth fundamental force: Chaos, It has it's own energy and propagates into a field across all of space and time.
The Fluctuations in the Chaos Field in the early universe was unstable due to excessive Chaos Energy, so over time, The Master Emerald and The Chaos Emeralds crystalized from the energy field, stabilizing it (hence why there are only seven Chaos Emeralds and one Master Emerald on Mobius, though the Chaos Field on distant places crystalized in different ways too, like how Little Planet has the Time Stones)
But while the Chaos Field's fluctuations had been reduced, they weren't nullified completely, and those minor energy concentration generates Rings, which are minor crystallizations of Chaos Energy, hence why they seem to simply appear everywhere + The reason they float and rotate is because of how the Chaos Energy in the rings interacts with the Magnetic Field of the planet.
When Sonic gathers enough rings, the energy gradient becomes so great that the Chaos Field forms a large fissure in space and time shaped like a giant ring that leads directly to the Chaos Emeralds (or the Master Emerald itself if the Giant Ring formed on Angel Island and there aren't any Chaos Emeralds nearby to be guided towards), this is simply a result of the Chaos Field wanting to balance itself, and the Chaos Emeralds serve as energy sinks to soak up excess Chaos Energy.
Super Forms are the result of tapping on the C-Field directly through the Chaos Emeralds, and needs to consume rings to stabilize the energy reaction, otherwise the C-Field will re-stabilize itself, resulting in the Super Form fading away.
The Master Emerald has so much concentrated C-Energy it can destabilize the Chaos Emerald's into unleashing their full power, causing them to swell into the Super Emeralds, but doing so is very risky because it could cause them to detonate and unleash all their C-Energy at once, which would have cataclysmic consequences to Mobius, hence why they never tried to do it again, pulling a Hyper Sonic is too reckless to do a second time.
This also explains how people can warp space-time and even alter reality through the Chaos Emeralds, the C-Field is directly woven into the other fundamental forces, and can alter the universe from it's most basic level.
It's not just Florida gas stations that have that chime on their cash registers. I've heard it up here in Wisconsin, too, and it confuses the heck out of me.
Shadow uses his rings to have a limit on his chaos controll and Sonic uses them to make a portal or in a fight to be stronger I think they are very powerful things these rings and they have more abilities than just one.

Since in the JP manual of Knuckles Chaotix says that Eggman created "artificial rings", this means that regular rings are a natural occurrence, probably an effect of the Chaos Emeralds just existing?
