Take your time. fill your space in this world with your own terms , I admire your philosophy , your art is magic ! Thank you for every effort creating a video !
As someone who has always been slow in whatever she does, I’ve always felt self conscious and am constantly comparing myself to the speed of others. This video lifted my spirits, made me feel so much better and gave me new hope. Thank you!
Thankyou so much for this. Ive had a lovely time catching up on your videos this morning, this one made me cry, with relief. As a working artist, Ive been so bogged down with commissions, its made me unwell. We take on the work, to pay the bills, but its so very stressful and anxiety gets pushed through the roof. I dont mean to sound ungrateful to my customers, but I do think from now on I will not do commissions anymore. Thank you for giving me the courage to do this, much love as always and thanks to you xxx
Thank you Deborah, there are moments in an artist's life which are tricky especially when all your time is spent on other peoples wishes and ideas, this can be so stressful .... I ve been there so often these past 10 years..... As you say, it's not being ungrateful at all, it's just that a balance need to be done to make things work financially which of course is important but also to fulfill yourself and maybe both can work together ....even better... Only time can tell! Thank you for stopping by !
This is one of my favorite videos, which is saying a lot because so many of your videos are wonderful and inspiring. Thank you for the reminder and example of a beautiful way to live and grow.
Thank you Sally , glad you liked this one and need this reminder :) Yes it's just so easy these days to forget the most important....Let's take our time!
I adore your video's. I love the calmness and peace it brings to me. Your art is enchanting and watching your video's takes me to another place and I can escape from this strange world we live in. Be who you are. It's perfect. Merci.
Hi Latetia! Thank you for such an insightful approach to living❤ i too feel that things are so hurried today and long for the days of my youth that were on an enjoyable , pleasant time line. Thank you so much for this. ❤
I think there is really a line between the world before internet and after, with a lot of positive aspects, but very dark and depressing ones, too, I think people were more happy then. they were less posibilities less options in general but less competitions, the rythm of life was just natural, and slower, . Thank you Yvonne :)
This was a really helpful video especially since I rush to do art and not take my time. But I do need to slow down and take my time to make my art how I want it to be.
I enjoy these types of videos you do. I wish I could slow down more and make time for my hobbies, but I'm married to a workaholic! And you do make beautiful art!
What a wonderful message for our times! We do live in a world that wants us to be always rushing and busy and producing things, and it makes us forget that things have to happen in their own time, at their own pace, naturally. There are some kinds of art I like to do that happen very fast - nature photography and some styles of printmaking, for instance - but there's a difference between being quick and being rushed. I try never to force the process, and if it ends up taking a long time for a collage or sculpture to come together, or if I catch the perfect image in a second, both are good if they're natural. You have to go with the flow.
Yes they may be some nuances for some sort of art form , the relation we have to our art can stil be exhaustedand damged with this productivity world , no matter the medium..Yes it's true there is a time for everything.. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Jen !
Thank you.......This spoke to me on so many levels. Nothing beats doing things at your own pace .......not measuring yourself up with others. Great video.
"A Wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." Gandalf in The Fellowship if the Rings movie. And--you are, after all, a wizard. A paper wizard!
Short video but well done! I couldn't have said better, I love what you said ... "We bloom like flowers in a garden, and ... "On my own journey, I'm perfectly on time!" Art to me is a scapegoat to get out of the hustle and bustle of life, work and the expectations of others. Art is not a product done in an assembling line in a factory, we must take the time to enjoy the development of our work. Thank you so much for such encouraging reminder, to slowdown and smell the flowers! ❤❤❤
Thank you Ellie yes we need to slow down just for our sanity, and absolutly take the time to smell the flowers and as you say I think sometimes even professionnal artists forget that they are not a factory, they are not supposed to produce at a factory rythm .. Thank you for stopping by :))
I love your video Laetita and you are doing your art, the way it becomes magical. And it takes a live to be better and better. Since I moved, 25 years ago, to a house with a big garden and lots of animals, my live is going slower. I don't want to hurry anymore, take my time and it is so much better for everything. Have a very good weekend.
Thank you Marjan, I can imagine with this life choice leaving in the countryside surrouded by nature and animals , you have to follow their pace, you don't need reminders. It's very true ! A lovely sunday to you too !
I am so thankful that you created this video.. I am an artist that used to post on IG and YT and I took a LONG break because I was feeling so discouraged for the very reasons you states. My art takes long to create as well and I felt I was so behind in this "race" to always have something new to share every week. I was burning out and losing my passion for art. Now I am coming to terms that I enjoy taking my time and I no longer feel like I need to be extremely productive. I am trying to reconnect with my passion for art in a way that feels good to me. Thank you again for sharing your insights. I never comment on your videos but I've been a long time fan :). Sending love and positivity from the US! :)
Thank you for sharing your story, I think a lot of people could relate to your experience. I'm sure all this : the internet social media presence/pressure will be studied by psychologists in a few decades and they will see all the negative effect long term on most people. What is certain is that we need to see where we want to invest our time, to evolve and bloom as artists and do the choices that will make us content and happywith what we produced at the end of our lives. Thank you for you message! I'm glad you 've commented for once , it's always a joy to discover "the hidden ones" , especially if you've been around for a long time :)
Especially if when is working hard to be seen on social media, whatever one posts it's becomes a mere pointless "like" which will last only a few seconds on the other person's life. That makes all even more sad, disappointing and discouraging (to say the least
Your words here really resonated with me. The pressure to produce more work at a faster rate is one of the many reasons I left instagram. I think some things are not meant to be taken in at a one to two second glance and they are definitely not produced at that rate, yet the pressure is real! I have felt so much more myself after leaving that environment. We all need to be able to grow at our own pace.
You are absolutly right Tina, the unecessary pressure we all feel in those places can be avoided very easily. The quality of art and and the level of happiness and fulfillment which we have when we simply follow our own pace, rythm, and our long term goal, cannot be denied,. I was rereading a few days ago Rilke "letters to a young poet" and he talks exactly about that, what would he say about this crazy fast world we live in today ...! Thank your for sharing your thoughts.
You are just amazing in so many ways! Do you know how you became this creative, unique, thoughtful, patient, etc., etc.etc, person? ❣ Your childhood maybe played a large part? 😍
Thank you Patty ! I think everything starts in the childhood especially for artists, I was for sure a very patient child living in my own bubble, not differently than how I live my life now ;)..
Awh so beautiful Laetitia! Well and properly said. I got tired of the competing and fast paced production to please others and to sell my work too. I have changed my strategy, slowed my art and work for my soul self, with meaning and purpose!! Fortunately I am at a place in my life to be able to do that. I think every true artist hates that question, "How long did it take you to do that?" I love your sayings "We bloom like flowers in a garden, and "On my own journey I'm perfectly on time." I too love the earlier time periods. Let us all strive to be 'slow' artist. Thank you for sharing such a video.
Thank you Roksanna! That's good you can do it , I don't think that competition and art, work very well together anyway (that's what our current time want us to believe ) , ...yes slow or normal artists from the past who enjoy taking their time :) Let's do that !
Beautifully spoken words. Meaningful and purposeful are such an important part of creating art. I also believe that you are perfectly on time. Thank you for letting the world know how you feel. Busyness crushes our soul, and we should focus more on reducing the number of things on our calendar than adding to it. Slow art, slow cooking, slow writing, etc. We need time to create our magic✨🧚♀️ Beautiful video, dear Laetitia ❤️
You are absolutly right, nobody never felt the need of "mindful slow eating living"...... because slow was just normal for anything. We need to make time for what really matters and what will make a difference in our lives and hapiness as artists.
Hi it is Liana here, My gosh I don't think you are slow at all however maybe I am a snail. Funny I am back at Tafe learning Visual Arts and I am having to do an illustration for a children's fable and I was given Aesop's The Tortise and the Hare. So I have just finished the line drawing of the hare racing to try to reach the tortoise at the finish line with lots of little creatures watching on. You are an artist and that in itself takes time something that most other artist understand. Also our world will become much more appreciated in the future because we are working from the heart. Thank you for sharing
Hello Liana, Good to have some news from you, that's nice to work on this fable perfectly matching our theme ! You are totally right, that will make a difference without any doubt. Have fun with your new Art studies, and with your work on the Tortoise and the hare! Thank you:)
I take my time everyday now. I read a little, make some tea, take care of my 7 animals, do a little cleaning and decorating, garden, make my food from scratch. I work on my art and I also work full time, but I move at my own pace. I notice things, like at lunch, I sit down to my meal and most sit down to their phones and social media. I like to pay attention to detail in my work, even if it's arranging the monthly book theme in an artful and eye catching way. The other ladies I work with just throw things into some random pile and call it good. My job can be very fast paced but I don't rush, I go along and get all of my work done and try ton enjoy it as much as I can. I don't explain myself anymore either. If I tried to explain what I do in my spare time, they would just laugh at me. I come home from work, turn on some wonderful music, say hello to my furry friends, check on my son and enjoy my evenings. I know nothing of current tv shows or movies, save it be something like a good mystery or period piece. I make my own bread and I am currently figuring out how to make my own clothes again, because the stores do not sell what I so love. It takes time to study material and finishing, figure out sizing and how things will lay and come together. My art, oh grief, it takes me sometimes months to complete even the smallest of projects. When I visit anywhere, I leave an entire day to have a full, slow experience. Fast people exhaust me, if that makes sense. We are taught to think more is more, fast is more, being slower and more deliberate is lazy or unproductive in some way. Nope,I live an unrushed life. Why were the Masters the masters they were? No distractions, taking their time, learning their gifts, enjoying their lives. If they tried to do what they did in our hurried world now, we would not have the masterpieces we have.
Lovely, as always. You are quite the thinker, my dear. When you sell your art, don't you factor in the amount of time it took to create it? Please don't take this wrong, but how do you put a monetary value on your work when your personal value and effort are so high? I am not able to sell my paintings because I fall in love with them, and because I am unable to set a monetary value to my time and effort. It is quite a dilemma. Oddly enough, I will 'give' my art to someone that I care for, and I hope that they will appreciate it as I do.
Thank you Christine, for certains art projects I prefer not having to put a price and not selling them at all but for most of my work I have no problem,... though it's always hard to guess what people would estimate them,. But it's a problem some of us have for sure, I guess there are a lot deeper questions hidden under this question.I always find fascinating that ating some very unskilled "amateur"s strangely enough, have no problem at all to put very high prices to their "art" where If I was them i would be ashamed to sell them in the first place...... We are all different in this world !But I have no solution for you, sorry !
