Watched this in Hotel by Houston Medical Center after Hurricane Beryl knocked out the power. High light of my day, thank goodness for batteries and 5g phone.
@BrettVaughnB100 Living in Iowa now, in Houston for cancer treatment. Spent many years taking weekends in California's Anza Borrego. Never had a mule, would have been nice. Rode a mountain bicycle instead & your videos bring back fond memories of pretending to be a cowboy.
I loved Unbranded too n I wish I had all that youngster energy, they also did a lot of planning n I was impressed, losing a good horse or mule is a hard blow n could hear your loss in your voice
My buddies and i did a pack trip like that through our national forest. Its been probably 20 years ago now, but i still get to relive the trip and i just told my neighbor about it a couple weeks ago. You are right about how it makes you feel alive waking up every day and travelling through new country. Great memories. Got a pair of pretty good mules i believe Brett. I like em.
I like Clyde. Perfect size and a great color. I believe you will be riding him more. I wish I had the will to do as you do. Good luck with Clyde. Maybe some day I'll start back to riding.
I didn't know that the other mule was Clyde when I suggested you name the new pup Clyde. I must have missed one of the videos lol. Clyde is a good looking mule. God bless. Onward and upward buddy
Go for it, we don't live forever ,and yes memories are GOLDEN . Capture all on video, you are making History. 😅 Good Ride ! You are BLESSED my friend. Thank you for Sharing. 😊
Awesome. Sure would’ve hated to see an animal roll down the rocks in that loose stuff. Had me on edge. Enjoyed every minute. Thanks for the ride. God Bless
Great video with your reference to your dad and his great adventures while riding. Then you covered one of your adventures. The monologue with video was great it was like we were in rhe adventure with you. Thanks for a job well done!
Oh the memories so glad I did the things I had done but regret I didn't do more. Sucks to get too old to still go. Your videos make my day. Looks like you got two great mules.
20:40 yes please Bret I would be keen to hear what your mules pack in both hot and cold weather. I'm 70 next year , definitely born 100 years too late. But the creature comforts of present day , well some of present day comforts are welcome. Like an ice cold beer on a hot day..would appreciate more videos like this Bret, of your past trips..the freedom of these trips with pack mules I find extremely appealing 🇦🇺🇺🇸👍 34:25 be great watching your new adventures too Bret👍
I liked the cheater using the horse tail to get up the hill.😂work smarter, not harder. That was some beautiful country. Are you gonna do that again with your new mules?
I would like to finish the whole route .. need to see when I can get away for that long .. Yeah he had bad knees wasn't long I think after this trip he had them replaced .. Thanks
Another wonderful video. I so enjoy your story telling and your videos. This is one of my favorites so far. I'm an old wannabe cowboy and would have loved to been able to do a long trail ride like you and your Friend did. Not sure I could handle the cold as my blood is too thin. As I get older I can appreciate your Dad enjoying his memories. I have a ton of them and I enjoy going down memory lane. Enjoy the time you have with your Dad, you may be surprised at how much you will miss him when he is gone. Thank you for sharing your days and your stories, maybe one day our trails will cross and we can share a nice campfire and a drink. I would really like that.
Yeah I want to see all your equipment. I've always wanted to do some of that but coming up on 66 might be a little late to start but I can just go along with you. Thanks❤
That brings back a memory here too. Started at the visitor center, small group packed in, went up and over into the East Fork. Stayed a couple nights then back out. Never camped before, first morning it was just getting light as the canyon wrens were waking up the world. Then I hear something big coming, it walked right up to the tent, sniffed the tent! My friend didn't even hear it! It went on, I get my nerve up to unzip that tent to peek square at a big brangus bulls butt. Thank God...thought it was a bear!
It would be a good video about what was not needed much, and what was used, or made a trip better.Along with some video of when where, and why. This was one of the best I've seen of your channel. But I have only been watching for about 2 years.
As we get older we recount our memories some good some not so good great video of the pack trip being from Dakota i know what cold is thanks for sharing
Hey i'd love to see what and how you pack, I don't pack but still love to see it. You got yourself sorted now with those mules I recon. Great vid of your trip too. Tracey (Australia), Clever Clyde!
Awesome video Brett, enjoyed this video so much! I would’ve been in heaven on that ride. My longest day in the saddle was 20 miles on a Paint gelding I had and that’s a long and tiring day and he grazed the whole way. We packed food in and camped and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. I’m 55 now and don’t ride anymore, due to an auto accident that I was hit from the back and caused a lot of injuries! Still have on Quarter Horse mare from the Bogle Ltd Ranches in Dexter, New Mexico. Enjoyed tagging along on this video and I felt like I was right there with y’all! Be safe!
Brett, go... just GO! My partner, your exact age, past away in February.. absolutely unexpected... I'm still in shock. We had so many plans and now? I'm literally on the ground and I'm stuck. Can't do the things we both loved so much anymore. Lost him, my buddy too. Now totally bound by hands and feet. And I tell you, coming from being as free as a bird to run to the grond.. I think that it doesn't even has hit me for real.. We all waist time, I know what you mean and yep, know it too, done it too.. Grab that bull by the horns and get on that path. REAL FAST! GO!! Don't wanna say that word. (Before..... ) shoot. Did it anyways. Bonnie is young and wants to go go go, and I bet that when Clyde and you have the same amount of quality time together that he is way different towards you. You are as ready as can be and many that support your back now. Go, my friend.. Onward and upward !
You are so right about getting busy doing things. I'm the same age as you and recently retired. I have watched those two rides many times. I'm appreciate you taking the time on this video to explain your route. I've hiked up towards diamond peak, but never to the top. hiked up to reeds peak when I was young. Want to go around from the north second to the animas and back to North to Hermosa. I also loved the Jeremiah Johnson tune on the 2nd trip.
Brett, it sure tickled me when you told the story about your Dad and his hearing aids. When he told you that "you didnt say anything worth hearing "😂. Good stuff👍. Nice he enjoyed that show to bring back his memories and yours too. Thanks for sharing that trip you did years ago. Take care.🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Loved it So many questions like unbranded doc was awesome and your video adventure was amazing. The pack animals carry everything and I thought about old western years and what they brought. I doubt cowboys would just travel with dry beans and jerky and a pot and a wool blanket… Would you ever consider doing an overnight with just cowboy gear .. men were tougher back then lol Because there wasn’t any luxury . Long travels were by wagon before trains. Makes a guy wonder . Thanks for sharing.
I'd absolutely love to know what u consider luxuries vs necessities! I have my list for my area but that would change if I was traveling different country. God Bless Brother Kyle 😊
That's a great idea making that video about what you need to take and what you left behind what you thought you needed but never used that would be a cool video thank you for sharing i enjoy your adventures
Great video thanks for taking us down memory lane ! Safe travels
Thanks for watching
Yes I would love to see your equipment and tack!! 🫏

Did my heart good seeing you soaking your animals legs in the river! Shows you care about your animals.
Awesome. Sure would’ve hated to see an animal roll down the rocks in that loose stuff. Had me on edge. Enjoyed every minute. Thanks for the ride.
