  • Hey everyone, I was waiting to do a patch from scratch, but right now seems like the correct time. So I chose percussion synthesis as my first one. It's a favorite past time of mine, using my analog rack to patch up a bunch of gnarly percussion voices.
    Hopefully this helps everyone get a window inside my head to understand what all is going on when i'm patching and recording.
    The kick drum is Schlappi Engineering Angle Grinder, FM voice is Angle Grinder being modulated by Happy Nerding HmVCO, the third voice is Interstellar Radio and the last voice is XAOC Belgrad for pinging.
    If anyone has any questions, feel free to hit me up in the comments.

      just watched it. Can you explain what Boundary is? Also, congrats on placing in the Modular Challenge! Nice work!

    • @GrantBoss
      @GrantBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude! I’m excited to see what I get lol.
      Boundary is half a slew based function generator, half 4q VCA, with some clever normalizations. The VCA sounds great and it’s the most plucky function generator I’ve ever used. It can essentially make any filter sound like a lpg it’s so tight.

    Love this. I've pulled off some of these components w/ other modules (kick, FM, hats) but haven't tried the filter ping technique yet; once my rack is back together I'm going to give that a shot.
    Love the noise out of Interstellar radio. I have a cheap Tesseract FM radio thing but have a hard time getting usable noise out of it.

    • @GrantBoss
      @GrantBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! And I’m glad I could bring one more technique to the table for you. Interstellar radio has such a huge palette of tones, it’s great.

    Maaaaan this is great! Gives some great insight not only in your sound design, but the sequencing as well. I just bought a Grids hoping it would get close to Mito... But your patterns do seem decidedly cooler. Gonna play with that some more, and save up for a Voltage Block! Thanks for sharing (:

    bought the interstellar radio I discovered through your videos (my very first sound module) and it's awesome; for full noise improv as well as for making complex drums; and as an effect too. Now I'm torn between making harsh noise or IDM.

    • @GrantBoss
      @GrantBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The answer is always both! Lol
      It’s such a great module with a massive pallet of sounds. Throw it into a reverb and try making it do chords! That is a really fun one.

  • @benoftroy

    great patch, thank you so much for sharing!! I'm curious, what's the sequencer on the left side of your case you're using? and I'm curious about how it's clocked from Pam's. didn't look like a steady clock?

    • @GrantBoss
      @GrantBoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you!
      It’s a discontinued clock divider called Mito. The clock is receiving is just a 4x steady clock from Pam’s. The groove you’re hearing is coming from Mito itself.
