Saw this, and the entire series, in the SWR TV broadcast. Now I can see it again here. Michael Gielen is one of the most talented musicians alive. Thank you VERY MUCH, Andrew.
Hi There,I am Frank Zappa fan & i just had to listen to this Music of Frank's choice..Its Great ..I can see where Frank gets alot of his Music From...Thanks X
I remember watching this series about 20th century music, called "Orchesterfarben" (Orchestral Colors). (There was always an introduction by Gielen explaining the techniques used by the composer) They used visual tricks to highlight the composer's technique, like extremely long dissolves for Ligeti, adding white noise to the image for Lachenmann, or, as seen here, adding visual snippets of the performers like Varèse used snippets of score paper to arrange his musical ideas.
Andrew: Thank you so much for posting this video.. Ever since my teen years, I have loved this piece. Even now, I listen to the recording of it that I cherish the most: Maurice Abravanel conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra... Cheers.
Salutations! Just introduced a video on a real crime documentary, investing a whole 14 hours. Your insights are invaluable, so please share any positive or negative thoughts. Stay well, and eagerly awaiting your response.
