    As a huge fan of reggae myself, I'd recommend 60's reggae (ska/bluebeat, rocksteady, skinhead reggae) over 70's reggae. As much as I love it, 70's reggae can probably be monotonous at times, but if you want more soulful, danceable, or psych in your reggae then go with 60's era which is completely different.

    My all time favorite reggae album is the sound track to Rockers. I'm almost 60 & have been really loving most of your picks. It's so good to know that truly great music is still being loved by younger generations. Thank you.

    I can't believe it's hotter in Portland than in Atlanta. We're only in the mid 90's. You and your mom are going to have a blast at the B-52's show! Stay cool.

    • @ts_vinyl
      @ts_vinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this same time last year we hit between 115-120 degrees for a week straight. So I'm thankful we're not getting that again! Yes, I'm so excited about that show!

    Here Come the Warm Jets - I adore that record and play it so often. I always point out the girl peeing on the cover - the 70s were a different time. Cake - that album was everywhere when it came out. Enjoy the B52s concert!

    Aloha Sam ,
    Wow! 102 degrees ! Here in Honolulu it's always warm but Never in the 100's. The humidity is what gets us here when theirs no Tradewinds. It's warm today so I'm relaxing in my room with the Air Conditioning on watching your video. You purchase some great record albums, and those Reggae record albums must be cool. In the 1970's I listened to Bob Marley a lot. In the early 1990's a shop that sold record albums also put on concerts here in Hawaii, I was able to get a
    backstage pass to take photos 📷 of some Concerts one which was, Gregory Isaac. I'll post one of his photos I took , on Instagram so you can check it out, & yes Night Nurse is his best record album. Thanks again for sharing Sam. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
    Mahalo Ed.

    Stay cool :) Great you got the Ann Peebles' debut . Have it too. Love Eno, got.that too, early press. I have a 'ot of reggae and dub. Give Keith Hudson a listen, very psychedelic and out there... his stuff. A 70s legend. Or Eek-A-Mouse,. 80s Dancehall.

    • @ts_vinyl
      @ts_vinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love that Damned "Black Album." I have an OG but it skips. 😢 Such a great album. Have you heard "Strawberries?" Love that album. I love all of The Damned LPs. Have a few of their records on colored wax - Strawberries on red, Phantasmagoria on white, Music For Pleasure - blue and some colored 12 inchers of theirs. I'm a big fan of The Damned. Glad you dig them too. I like reggae, especially 60's and 70's reggae. Nice reggae VCLT! "Night Nurse" is one of my favorite tracks!

    Hi Sam. Nice video as usual. I get your point regarding reggae. However, I love reggae and if I may, I would recommend the superb Linton Kwesi Johnson Forces of Victory album (english reggae) that really stands out. One of my favorite reggae album of all time. Temperature is also unbearable in France at the moment. Cheers. Thierry

    Reggae can be a minefield as the albums are often spotty.My recommendations for real killer albums would be Max Romeo ‘War Inna Babylon’ .Culture ‘Two Sevens Clash .Mighty Diamonds ‘Right Time’ The Gladiators ‘Trench Town Mix Up’ Congo's ‘Heart Of The Congo's’ Augustis Pablo ‘East Of The River Nile’ If you buy those & are dissaponted I’ll give you your money back Sam!

    Hi Sam 🌞 ! Both The Black Album & Strawberries 🍓 are excellent efforts by The Damned - You miss out on the 20 minute epic " Curtain Call " by not getting the 2 LP version of Black but still get the awesome Dr.Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde. We had monsoon 🌧 here in New Mexico yesterday which got rid of the 100 degree heat .. but left behind humidity 🙃

    • @ts_vinyl
      @ts_vinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David! I definitely need more of The Damned in my collection and still on the hunt for the 2lp version of this album but this version will hold me over. Oh wow, yeah I would rather deal with the blazing heat than humidity

    The Damned black album is one of my favorite of theirs, it kind of leans into goth and prog stuff in it.
    Police in helicopter is also one of my favorite reggae songs!

    • @ts_vinyl
      @ts_vinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never noticed the prog element in The Black Album, but I can definitely hear it now.

    • @scottbreese1295
      @scottbreese1295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah, it was especially that song at the end or near the end of the album called "curtain call". That song is long and very prog for the damned I feel.

  • @MsKalachakra
    @MsKalachakra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thought I've heard every 90's grunge/alt rock classic album by this point, but never heard Cake before. I have the Damned's BA 2 LP version, think the only thing you are missing is a live side and their only "prog" song, yes you heard well lol. Brian Enos's Baby's on Fire is on my 500 favorite songs of all time list.

    • @ts_vinyl

      Cake's catalog is very hit or miss for me. But I would definitely recommend Fashion Nugget as their best album.

  • @pov_music
    @pov_music 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was lucky enough to find a UK Island pink rim press of Here Come the Warm Jets for very good money! Had wanted to pick it up for ages and hoping to find some other classic Eno albums at some point too. Certainly a very fair price for that Damned. Weirdly I never got into Cake other than The Distance, they're probably very much up my street though. Tbh I thought the same about that Tyler album, its pretty good for sure but not on the same level as Igor or Flower Boy for me. Great choice of dub and reggae albums!

    • @ts_vinyl
      @ts_vinyl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice Eno find! Yeah, I find a lot of Cakes stuff is very hit or miss for me, Fashion Nugget is probably the only album I need to own by them. Glad I wasn't the only one to be let down by that Tyler album, I saw a lot of people putting it on their best record of the year list already. So, I just thought I was out of touch with the current state of hip hop.

    Much love for the Ann Peebles pick up. Nice selection. I think as with most genres/sub-genres of music, the more exposure your ears have the more nuances you’ll soon discover and possibly love. Kinda like your one video about albums you didn’t like at first, Reggae might be something you’ll better appreciate down the line.

    Jamaican music is one of my specialties and believe me all reggae songs do not sound the same!! Far from it! (Of course it's possible the reggae beat is not your cup of tea which is fine. I don't like disco...lol) The backup bands behind these singers are all superb musicians and the different little touches they add to each song are simply wonderful. That said, you picked out some winners here. Isaacs happened to be my very favorite JA singer. He was called "the cool ruler" and his voice certainly conveys this. At the outset of his career he often portrayed himself as the spurned lover, but still hopelessly searching for love. As his career progressed he sang less and less about affairs of the bedroom and more about ghetto peoples" suffering and wicked Babylon. This was in keeping with many of the themes of roots reggae which lasted roughly from 1976-1985. And John Holt I love too. His voice is just so wonderful. He started singing rock steady with The Paragons, one of the most beloved groups in that genre, the genre that came just before reggae and lasted only 2 years, 1966-68. Check out some of The Paragons songs. Blondie had a huge hit with one of them, The Tide Is High, but the Paragons original version is still the best. Holt was primarily a singer of love songs and just about the best (just listen to his voice!) but by the time of Police in Helicopter he had made the transition to more reality based roots songs and this LP showed he was just as adept here.
