This is honestly trippy. I'm Diamond 1 in 2's and this looks like a gold lobby. So weird. And it's crazy that you're playing so slow, no speed flips (which most diamonds can do) and making everyone look silly. I'm gonna have to try this

@long5659 lol it's crazy how he gives a warning in the video about how people will say this and they still do. These players look like they're in the exact rank they're playing in. I'm C1 in 2's and there's still the majority of players that don't have all of their mechanics locked down, including me. The fact that he does the basic stuff super well is why it looks so easy but it comes naturally to him since he's done it for so long. This dude thinks it looks like a gold lobby but in reality everyone in the rank will be making the same mistakes when being in squishy's position and then it's gonna go back to looking like a D1 lobby.
I'm GC1 and pretty sure he's going to do the same thing to us as hes doing to the diamonds. It's going to suck seeing how bad I am.
Playing RL and watching RL are two different things. Those lobbies are thr same no matter if you are watching or playing. You have a different mindset when watching vs actually being in hame yourself which is why it looks much different.
Diamonds don't speedflip. they diagonal flip but they don't cancel. even low champ doesn't do it correct.

The issue with these videos is that Squishy is making these look so easy and he is not doing crazy mechanical plays, BUT he is doing the basics at the highest level (I.e perfect positioning, ball control, game sense). So for someone at that actual rank (Plat, Diamond) can't perform the basics at this high of a level yet so that's why its unrealistic to play this "basic" and expect to level up quickly.
i think that's the point, that's why u should focus on positioning, ball control, and game sense first, not no flip resets or ariels in the air.
i mean when he does those ''bad air dribblings'' he does without spinning the car like crazy, and the problems with diamons is that they spin and spin expecting to do something crazy but they ended up losing position and boost
Agreed. A player like squishy knows exactly what he can and cant get away with in these games. Its easy for him to say "I'm showing that you don't need any mechanics to rank up and all you need is good game sense", but its ridiculous to expect anyone at these ranks to have pro level game sense or positioning. In my opinion, proper instinctive game sense is way harder to learn than mechanics are.
Perfectly said! Squishy will never wiff his "bad aerials" or drop his basic dribble like us mortals will. I mean, he said he didn't even use air roll for that little air dribble, but I don't even understand how he rotated his car like that without it. His "not doing anything crazy" is still consistently on-point basics.

Consider that plats/diamonds are the players that, having not developed the skills necessary to escape the rank, are subject to playing against the most players going through their placements, whether that's players that legitimately belong in the elo region they've been spending most of their time, lower ranked players that have been boosted, smurfs who intermittently throw / clip, or better players that are just making their journey through the middle ranks on their way to the higher ranks. While you're not doing much in terms of fancy mechanics, your simple speed and accuracy are enough to identify you as a clear smurf to any long-time plat/diamond.
Yes, there are egos at play, but there's also a shit ton of exhaustion from the volatility of playing against players that simply AREN'T "at their level" whether that is lower or higher. The placement system is shit, frankly, and it's the average players in plat/diamond that bear the brunt of its shortcomings. It's no wonder that some people get frustrated and quit.
Very well said. Add to this people prob try to ff when they see the smurf (or as you diplomatically put it “people going through the ranks”), but tm8 does not take the ff. Only logical thing left to do is quit at that point. Not sure there is much “rage” in that quit, it is actually very rational, quite the opposite. If there is any rage it is towards the mm system and psyonix pretty much encouraging smurfing. But unless you’ve suffered a hundred smurfs in gold/plat/diamond you do not realise this, and just assume players are idiots and rage quit…
You should be right, but with how the community has been developing lately, they would just say "look at this dude, he's fucking terrible, my tm8 is trash" and quit instantly.
This is the exact issue i face while playing as a chronic G3-P2 player. It's so obvious to me as soon as someone that doesn't belong here shows up. I usually end up playing so bad when I see a smerf and just end up mostly giving up because I KNOW that no mater how good I play I will lose. It's the most deflating feeling in any game.
I love good close matches with people that are at a similar skill level. But then right when you are feeling pretty good and playing good and go up a couple of ranks, these pro-smerfs (probably also the hundreds of You Tubers "teaching" us how to rank up while keeping us at lower ranks in the process) show up game after game and decimate all progress. I use BakkesMod to track ranks of who I play with, and it's staggering how many are fresh accounts with only a handful of games played, or rank up massive points on the win. They are always inching up the skill level just enough to humiliate those of us at the ranks who are just trying to play fair games with those at or near the same skill level. I wish that I could play ranked to see where I stand with those "IN MY RANKS".
I play casual to improve and play with people of all ranks, and I hate that Comp play is basically a free for all too. It's a frustrating process that I hope one day RL will fix. Until then I know that I suck, but don't know exactly at what rank I suck because at my ranks there are more smerfs and passthrough players than actual those ranks.

Yeah it's not at all basic. It looks simple but ask any diamond to do exactly what he did (adapting to a weird setup, making the decision to flip on the ball and having good aerial control to follow it), they aren't gonna get it and even if they do, it's gonna be slower and easier to save

c1d3 - c2d2 is the new p3d2 - d1d2. I hate it so much man because I don't know if I'm going to get someone with 4k hours like me, or 500 hours and lucked their way out of diamond. I don't know if I'm going against a GC with more hours than me or someone who was carried by a duo's partner and is playing 3s. It's all so random from match to match...
Hey Squishy! I've been following the series and one thing I've noticed is that youve definitely shown you don't need fancy mechanics or insane speed to take advantage of these lobbies... but that means a lot of our problems at these lowers ranks is positioning and macro- movement / gameplay, right? Do you have a video or could you make a video about rotations, positioning, good challenges vs bad challenges?

Hi Squishy! Big fan of the videos! I was wondering if you were planning to do a road to SSL seris but instead of 2v2 or 3v3, you do 1v1 since I feel as if less light is shined on high level 1v1s as compared to 2v2 and 3v3
I absolutely love this series. it really helps to illustrate the problems players at these ranks make and the things they can do to improve. I really like how you only use mechanics you see the other players at that rank using. the only problem is when you never lose you rank up way faster than a normal player at that rank would so you don't have to grind or see the different players as much as they do. I would love to see the same series but next time tank games at first until you are only getting 7-10 elo that normal players get and then start the climb. yes it will take a lot longer but there will be more examples to show the different mistakes made at each rank annd be more realistic to the common players experience.
I love that Squishy is doing these videos cause he's rolling tips for every rank in with showing people what ranks look like in early 2024. Keep up the good work Squishy!

I stg I've seen multiple pros vs diamonds and it just aint the same. I know I'm trash and so are they, but holy shit 90% of diamond lobbies have people speed flipping and doing at least mediocre air dribbles. I'll die on this hill

ngl the entire champ rank is all the same everyones banging the ball around like apes with no intention behind anything thats all champ is literally 0 possession just bang ball as hard as fast as you can and pray it works i gurantee you when he gets to champ they’re going to look just as stupid because they’re essentially going to pass the ball to him or deep dive and leave their tm8 in a 2v1

The most important thing that got me out of diamond is realizing that my opponents dont play fast because they are good, but because they are are even worse at playing slow, so they want to avoid that. Even when I had reached diamond, I had never taken any time to work on my dribbles and when I did, it got me to champ easily. The problem is that diamonds focus on the wrong mechanics. It doesnt matter, wether they know how to speedflip or flip reset or musty flick, because its not what will get them out of diamond. Instead, the two most consistent ways to score in these ranks are: 1) bounce dribble to powershot 2) basic dribble to flick. If you are reading this and stuck in plat/diamond make sure you can score goals like this consistently, its a game changer.
Meanwhile my diamond 1/2 lobbys doing flip resets and musty flicks.. dont know what am i watching here. lol
I don't play much anymore but a couple years ago I broke into Champ with my only mechanical skill being quick aerials. I didn't have time to practice all the new skills and it was terrifying to play against people doing things that blew my mind. That said, they didn't always win. Playing half-smart can get you pretty far even when you suck at the game!
Yea I’m champ 1 with very little mechanics. Just decent game sense and can move around quickly
yeah fortunately enough i was able to hit gc and stay in it with very little mechanics all you need to really know are the basics and how to save everyone else’s flip resets and you’re good to go
okay now slowly its getting interesting. im like 1150 elo c1 and he should start to see wavedashes, speedflips and simple doubletaps/redirects in his games cause that's what im facing against. ofc nun insane but definitely a good increase in skill comparing to what we've seen up until now

We wont see those mechanics because he's on a smurf account gaining 35+ per win and enemies are losing 6. The matchmaking is going to look a lot different because of the winstreak. You also have the variation in games. Some games in c1 people are drunk or something from the looks of it and they look like plats, and some games they're on Adderall and perfectly reading everything. If we see the easy free games from him in this series it's going to be disappointing. Also around c1 is where most smurf accounts lie so I would like to see him in a lobby vs a smurf as well since it's proven there's around 30% smurf games in champ. I will be very sad if he just plays vs the easiest enemies in champ and breezes past it and says "this is what you look like" as they whiff everything. Then he's gc in a few games and he'll just believe that from 2-4 games sample size. I think my favorite thing to see would be him playing on like 100 games stuck in champ account for a few games and then see what his take on it is.
@@blooodbat007yeah that’s the only bad thing i don’t like about these videos cause they’re essentially winning 4 games for every match they win but honestly champ will definitely look dumb probably every game will look easy in his perspective because he’s playing a slow cautious play style i mean i gurantee you champs will look just as stupid even in your own lobbies if you just play slow like him i usually sit in gc and champ and whenever i just play calm and slow you can see that everyone is actually really horrible and is just speeding around aimlessly, 0 possession and smacking the ball as hard as you can like it 3’s and jumping for every ball that goes in the air, and deep deep diving for balls leaving their teammate in a 2v1 all the time that’s the entirety of the champ rank and low gc

My improvement in about 3 days with rings maps. No air roll just flying through them setting my aerial sensitivity correctly was crazy. I litterally jump in rings for 10 mins and my aerial play is so solid. Pushing champ 1 now.

For lower ranks, it is not always thinking they are the best player. A lot is getting tired of getting smurfed on. I don't know if you do it in this video (still watching) but in prior videos you were wavedashing a lot so that any one watching you would know you were smurfing even if you held back on aerial shots.
Exactly. Always thinks “rage quit”, “big ego”, etc. But it is more likely these lower rank players try to ff when they see a huge smurf and are down 3-0. And inevitably tm8 does not ff. Then what is left to do? Watch yourself getting destroyed or quit?

To be fair I’m only 2:30 into the game and he’s made 2 saves that if you aren’t very comfortable in these situations to save real good shots they are going to just score them. Don’t be bamboozled into thinking playing slow and very simplistic is an easy way to rank up. He’s simply better. The focus is to get better at the simple things like putting shots on target. Rotating far post, not wasting boost or leaving the play and to simply focus on what’s going on around you. Being able to make your car do exactly what you want it to do is half the battle

The thing I really hate about ranked plat is the players. I swear I've had more afk teamates in ranked than casual. It's so frustrating cuz it's usually as soon as the game starts or after like a 3 goal difference with over 2 minutes left.

Not ego, its the commoness of smurfs... diamonds have invested many hours and I do think it's a valid reaction, we do know what players normally do but super annoying when players from other ranks comes into lobbies.
The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning.
I think the big thing is how you hit the ball and how consistent you are. With lower ranks you wanna do something but can't in higher ranks you can actually do what you want if that makes sense
This! my friend is diamond 2 he tells me he know what he wants to do but can’t get his car to do it. People always fail to realise that car control in its self is a mechanic and that’s why these R2SSL always look much easier

I wanted to make this comment because I used to think the same thing. Whenever we see these type of videos we always think “oh I’m in that rank and my opponents are way better than that”, but they aren’t. He is just playing so well in the aspect of decisions and positioning ,because he has 10/10 game sense ,so it makes everyone he’s playing look like 3 ranks lower. It just goes to show how important position and game sense are.

I'm also diamond and play fast all the time (so I thought) you still beat them all even while driving slow and not even trying it's crazy makes me feel when I play I'm just doing too much and chasing that's not necessary

love the content, but When I play Plat3-D1 (I'm hard stuck) i play against people with "Season 7 Champ" in their names, doing ceiling pinches and across maps aerials. Not every game but usually 6/10 games.

No one in diamond hits stuff consistently. It’s the occasional person who gets the ball in the perfect position to what they practise in free play all day, that’s when they hit a double flip reset or something mechanical. Definitely not consistent but it does happen.
